Thanks for this. I knew that Ritchie was quite complimentary of Page and Zep, but the work you put in finding and including the actual quotes by him makes this video really interesting. This in itself makes me respect and admire Ritchie all the more and I don’t care how crabby he can be. lol
@@lyndoncmp5751 maybe if thats you hero. We all got our own thoughts. Its a matter of taste. My mount Rushmore is 1 Hendrix obviously. 2 Eddie Van because he started a new way to play guitar. 3 Ritchie Blackmore because he started neoclassical. 4 Page because he influence so many guitarist. The real best guitarist if this generation is Jeff Beck ti me. Have a great day rock on 🤘
He was topped many years ago by Ritchie Blackmore…. Haven’t you heard of Lars from Metallica who commented that deep purple were in a league of their own…
And half of 80 metal like HSAS - Giza, Blue Murder-Valley of the Kings, Kingdom Come debut album, Bonham - Secret of Timekeeping album. Videos, hairstyles, drum sound. They have influenced everything since like the Beatles. From the rhythm of rap, grunge bands eastern and hypnotic sound of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains. Plus numerous other things and ways they influenced what came after them. Style, videos in Song Remains the Same that became video themes in the 80s and 90s, The Les Paul being a iconic guitar and also the double neck, the ways bands toured and the money they demanded, stage set ups and others. Besides the Beatles Led Zeppelin are the most influential band of all time.
And also British hard rock pioneers - The Kinks, The WHO, Small Faces, The Yardbirds. And Iron Butterfly with their 1968 hit "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" as well
Blackmore is not better than Page. After 38 years of being a guitarist myself,I think Stones best band, but Jimmy Page is by far the greatest 🎸 guitarist in the world.
@@robertschiffhauer1679 2016 BBC Sessions interview with Page at the 2hr 16min mark Page said He can't solo like Ritchie or Improv like Ritchie. Both fantastic. I believe Ritchie is a little better live and performing. I have a friend that is very good. He said some of Ritchie's stuff is very difficult and he said Page is slightly easier to copy but the Tones are crazy to get. Love both of those guy's.
I’ll take RB over JP any day…. Jimmy Page live was very sloppy… horrible sound.. he’s a great musician who was working with 3 other great musicians, who’s input into the band was huge, whereas with Ritchie, he was the driving force behind purple and rainbow who came up with the great ideas… The biggest influence on Ritchie was Hendrix not Page…
@@carlocalarco6718…apparently you spent your time with live Zep concerts after Page began doing heroin, correct? So? What about the years before the hard drugs? Heard many bootlegs from before that time did ya? ‘Caused you missed quite a few jaw-dropping Page performances. I love how Page haters only focus on his playing during the heroin years, and completely look past (often on purpose) the incredible things before the year 1975 began to take shape. 😅
@@MJEvermore853 first off, I’m not a page hater… don’t know where you get that from.. like I’ve said, he is somewhat sloppy in his solos when performing live.. even the likes of Eddie van Halen has said that.. he’s a great musician and all… you say I should listen to his earlier stuff, trust me I have and I hear the same choppy picking sound… I don’t knock Jimmy page, he’s great and all but I’ll run with Ritchie any day… and you too should listen to Blackmore earlier stuff, he was much better at that time too…. Cheers 👍
@@carlocalarco6718, at least his playing takes you on a journey with various colors and textures. The guy put out more ‘feel’ than several musicians put together. Who cares if he misses a note? Technically perfect guitarists are dull and lifeless. They lack soul. Not saying RB does that, he’s my 2nd favorite musician of all time and he’s phenomenal. But this isn’t a competition. Only little kids try to prove their guy is “better” than so and so. It’s an unmanly and immature thing to do.
@@mikegraphone2736 Led Zeppelin have never cited Cream as an influence. Jimmy Page was in the Yardbirds before Cream came out and Jimmy and John Paul Jones played Becks Bolero before Cream existed. Jimmy already had the idea for heavy music before Cream. Zeppelin didn't sound a thing like Cream. However, no Elvis and no blues etc then no Zeppelin.
@@lyndoncmp5751, finally! An intelligent commenter on YT.👍 YT comment sections are so chock full of low IQ guys that boastfully don’t have a clue. It’s nice to see one with a working brain.
ive always wondered about that as well on the other hand ive quite often heard blackmore complimenting page....as an aside big jim sullivan who taught them both allegedly said blackmore was better
Good article, but seems intentionally obtuse to be discussing these early days of heavy rock and make absolutely no reference to the band who made the biggest contribution....... you know who!
@@karsguitarchannel6088The biggest influence on modern rock n roll was The Beatles 1964, Ed Sullivan. Beatles started it all. Every kid wanted to be rock star after Sullivan.
