Tobias has accomplished something when you genuinely care about whether a fictitious character who has to emote through a mask lives or dies. Parts of the film were very moving.
My daughter and I just saw it and afterwards the group of people who were there took pictures, shared stories and bracelets. You're right about the outcast thing because when we get together we realize that we're not alone. You can't leave the show angry.
Totally agree. I'm from Ohio and went to the most recent Cincinnati show. Everyone is laughing and sharing stories and it's such an awesome sense of community and belonging that a lot of people don't experience in their day to day. Ghost is so special for that and so many other reasons.
As I was leaving, this young couple was leaving right behind me. He was just raving over the movie and was really excited. Suddenly, the girl says “I thought it was stupid”. The look on his face when he realized that his girlfriend did not share his enthusiasm for Ghost. I see a break up soon.
@@MiMi-kx1vy Poor dude never saw that betrayal coming! Even if Ghost is not her cup of tea and obvious no fan, at least she could of kept it to herself if being there, just support the guy! She knew he was a fan and if seeing how much fun he have she can at least humor him a bit.
You mentioned your age. Well I'm 63 and let me tell you, I was fanboying along with every one else. I absolutely love Ghost and I can hardly wait for the next chapter in this story. The way the movie ended just left me wanting more !!!
I'm 42 yrs old and have grown incredibly weary with the world. Ghost have blessed us with something truly remarkable. I felt like a kid again for the duration of this movie, just like at their shows.
That's awesome to hear. It's always great when a band can make you travel in time. I'm 33, but seeing Ghost just takes me back to all the metal shows I went to as a kid and the sense of community that exists in that genre.
Awesome review! I'm new to Ghost and went to the screening with a diehard friend and we both had so much fun and the rendition of "If You Have Ghosts" was heavenly and had me in tears and the Scooby Doo style clip of "Mary On A Cross" was cool. So happy for Tobias as he's earned the success!
If You Have Ghosts had me tearing up as well. They movie was so awesome. I can't wait to see what he has in store next. Thanks for watching the review!
Well said and summerized. I´m 61 years old and is like a teenager when it comes to Ghost. Everybody in welcome in the community. Amazing movie. Greetings from Sweden. So proud that Tobias is a swede to.
Three times had to be a blast! I saw it twice and loved every second. Reminded me of how amazing this past tour was. Tobias really is a one of a kind entertainer!
I think you hit the nail on the head with your description of the film and the message behind Ghost. I loved the movie and left the cinema with a really good feeling. I'm so glad to be a part of their amazing fanbase!
just watched the movie here in Brazil with my wife. we loved it. there's fun, drama and obviously that great concert. imo ghost is the best thing happened to rock in the last 15 years.
I strongly agree with you! They are such a special group. Tobias is a brilliant songwriter and performer and they just continue to get better with time!
One of the Best Concert films i ever seen my theater was waving there hands and singing including me it felt like we were actually in that concert Every Ghost Fans i met was really nice! I really hope this gets a Blu Ray and DVD release i'd watch it over and over Truly an amazing experience!
I went Thursday to watch it by myself. I loved every moment of it as a newer Ghost fan. It is the closest I will likely get to ever go to a concert, seeing as prices are outrageous. I watched it again today with my 6 year old, who is also a Ghost fan. 😂
@@scottlapier4797 See, the lowest I could find was about $100.. but it was on the lawn, outside the stadium.. I might as well watch it at home in the AC for free. 😂 But I would sell my soul to see them at some point
Great review for an awesome show! Spectacular and thrilling all the way. This film showcased the beauty, imagination, and musician skill level of each and every musician. These musicians are gifted and talented and work together for a sound only this combination of people and musicians can create. Highly technical and entertaining. The message is beautiful throughout. The future of the lore and the band is so bright. The film was better than a live concert in that it gave you a close-up view of each musician performing and the many changes that occurred throughout to make it truly spectacular! I left with such a good feeling and look forward to what's next for Ghost.
My dad and I saw Rite Here Rite Now last month. The theater wasn't fully packed, but it was awesome how devoted our fellow fans were. They had Ghost shirts on, some people came in full makeup, others had Papa plushies, and the majority of us were kinda singing to ourselves during the movie, me included. I didn't have a Ghost shirt at the time, I wore some other heavy metal looking outfit. The movie was AMAZING! I was instantly sucked in as if I was actually there in LA. Tobias is like the ultimate showman. He has such an ability to control a crowd. He is so full of talent and charisma. He's really funny as well. From the stuff he did in the movie. That was actually my first concert movie experience in theaters. OMG the movie was so amazing, I wish I could see it again! I discovered Ghost a few years ago when they debuted on SiriusXM Octane with Cirice. They kinda reminded me of Volbeat who my parents and I all love. So I decided to check them out. Got Meliora on cd, and listened to it non stop. I was lucky enough to see them twice in concert. The last time my dad and I saw them, they actually toured with Volbeat. My dad and I both agree that Ghost sounds better live than they do on their studio albums. Their studio albums are great, we just think they sound better live. Even my mom can tell when I'm listening to them and has started to warm up to them which I think is awesome! Her favorite song is Rats. That's one of my favorite songs too. In closing, the movie was beyond amazing, Ghost is such an awesome band that is so talented in so many ways. So unique and so creative. I can't wait for my next Ghost concert!
I've gotten into Ghost very recently and watched the film with a friend yesterday....I loved every second of it, it was really fun and moving in it's entirety. The music was topnotch, the skits were hilarious and it was just an overall amazing experience and an equally amazing way to introduce Ghost to someone who hasn't gotten into them yet. 10/10 would recommend.
Great review! I pretty much feel the same way. I saw the movie twice and I can't wait to see it again. The more I learn, the bigger of a fan I become. The music is great, but Ghost brings so much more to the experience.
Great review Nate! loved the film and everyone in the theatre were dripping in Ghost merch. When the after credits scene cuts off and the screen went dark, everyone let out a "COME ON!!??" and it was a great laugh.
Two young kids came in with Papa make-up on, which was fun to see. I was BLOWN AWAY by the lighting for their show. I've seen them live twice but this show, the lighting was spectacular.
I honestly felt like there wasn't much I hadn't already seen from older clips on youtube and tiktok; I was hoping for a bit of lore with the ghouls maybe, but was excited Rainy got a line. Kevin, give him his damn water. That's a WATERGHOUL, sir.
Love this review, not just of the movie, but of the band, music and fans. I LOVED the movie. Even my husband liked it, and he's not really a fan, but he said he enjoyed it.
Just got done watching it and it was amazing!!! Definitely recommend. Best money I’ve spent in a while. Brought a couple people who really didn’t know anything about ghost and now they want to go to see them live 🤘
I’ve never been to a ritual although I really want to. Getting to go to this movie was a pretty close second and it was awesome when the audience would just start head banging and singing along If You Have Ghosts was almost a tear jerker and it gave me chills, never felt so in the moment
There were like 6 people in the theatre when I went but oh my god it was blown away and almost turned around and bought another ticket. I was rocking out in my seat.
I saw it for the second time last night, and it was somehow even better than the first-although that might be partially because the second time was at a different theater that had much better sound, including much louder bass levels, and far more fantastic balance overall. I agree with everything you’ve stated here. As an avid fan for 10 years now, and I couldn’t possibly have asked for a better experience that the one this movie provided. It is not only perfection from beginning to end, but I feel it also gave me a new lease on life. I’ve had such a horrible couple/few years and haven’t been coping well at all. I essentially “lost the music” in my life, and I’m so grateful that this film has brought it back to me. It made me want to continue trucking on and taking steps to improve myself. It made me think, “What a time to be alive!’
Loved everything about it. I did enjoy the animated sequence, but at the same time would have enjoyed seeing the live performance of that song. Double edged sword I guess. Overall, amazing film and my daughter and I loved it
Speaking of the moment when Papa talked about the fandom coming from different countries, religions, backgrounds, ages etc. was very poignant last night. My friend and I took my dad along and he's 65 next month (its ok, he's liked bands like MCR since 2008 so this music isn't completely out of left field) and he enjoyed it, obviously wasnt too impressed with the overt satanism, but recognised its all fun and goofy. He really enjoyed Tobias as a front man. For me the best thing is that, since my dad feels too old to go to concerts, Tobias gave me a concert experience with my dad, and i'll never be able to thank Tobias enough for that❤
I was so sad when I found out there was only two other people in our theater… all of my friends thought I was trying to take them to sell their souls to the devil. Ended up just going with my wife. Some of the dialogue was a bit muffled compared to the production of the music, but the film itself was 10 out of 10.🤘
Luckily both of my showings were full. Some of the dialogue was definitely recorded quieter in moments, but all the performances were perfect. I'm excited to own it!
I love Ghost and being from Sweden myself I’m extremely proud of what Tobias has accomplished. The hard work he has put in is above and beyond what any other band in Sweden has ever done. 🤘🏻🇸🇪🤘🏻
@@natesfilmreviews indeed, the music is amazing and Tobias has an amazing sense of humor. One of the best bands I’ve seen live! Mummy Dust is awesomely dark and works very well live. 🤘🏻🇸🇪🤘🏻
just got back from watching it my self I bought 4 tickets but only used one to support the movie. I thought it was great. the Song if you have ghost you have every thing made me tear up love the strings
That was my favorite part of the movie. Such a Beautiful song and the backup singer had such an incredible voice. I can't wait til it's on streaming so I can listen to it again and again!
Rite here rite now instantly cemented itself as an equal to the alltime greats such as The song remains the same, Stop making sense, and The wall. The theatricality of the band plays perfect for a piece like this. Band was tight, as always, Set list was great (I personally could've swapped a few, but hey, there is no such thing as an universally perfect setlist - and the set list was def. GOOD). I really hope it is released so that lightening in a bottle doesnt go lost on the ones unfortunate enough to miss the experience.
My gf our friends and myself went to watch this movie’s premier and everyone in the whole movie theatre was singing along to the songs all in unison and it was truly amazing, it legitimately felt like a true concert. Mind you there weren’t too many of us, like it wasn’t packed but the fanaticism of those present was amazing. Loved it and it’s been stuck in my mind
There was nothing funnier than me and my friend and a whole horde of goth people excitedly walking into the movie theater. The poor workers looked a little startled, and some of the other movie goers gave us some stink eye but it just made it even better
Top post yesterday in the Ghost subreddit, was _You guys are awesome!_ - a server at a "luxury theater" (where you can order food/drinks from your seats) hadn't heard of Ghost, but was blown away by how chill and fun the fans were. Bunch of folks dressed in stuff Grandma wouldn't approve of, and obv treated the servers better than your average church crowd (or almost any crowds). So between that and the music, they're a new fan, asking for suggestions where to start. How fkg cool is this community?!
I thought it was Great and I Loved it! My introduction to Ghost was on 98 Rock I caught the tail end of Square Hammer ! And then I fell in love with Hunters Moon from Halloween Kills! So when I found out about this movie I had to go see it and I'm glad I did! I even watched a video about the Ghost lore!
I like Pope Emeritus I and II the best... That's when GHOST was terrifyingly fun... Cardinal Copia is a more polite and sexually driven Pope Emeritus IV... But Mummy Dust is still a heavy metal classic.
Went yesterday loved it. After end scene no one got up to leave till one guy said ok someone get up first lol great time . hope I can buy it later to have forever
Great video, thumbs up. New subscriber here. I have a few questions. Wanted to see what you thought. OK, when he goes up in the balloon, they show a picture of twins. Does he have a brother? At the very end? They didn't show the new Papa through the doors. That was weird. I thought the skeletons. Dancing was a bit weird and they didn't play from the pinnacle to the pit. Other than that I loved it completely. It was such a experience. There was a bunch of ghost fans in the crowd and everybody cheered and sang along with the lyrics. It was just amazing. I'm in Destin, FL. Or the panhandle of Florida. Anyway, thanks again, great video.....Were you able to take a picture of the bonus bar scan code in the very beginning?👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for subscribing! Yes I think they were implying twins with that video. Tobias has made it clear in recent interviews he has sort of lost interest in killing Papa's so it seems this would be a way he could introduce a new character to tour with while also being able to use Copia simultaneously. I think whoever was behing the door will be revealed in a new chapter soon. It was such a wonderful experience and I'm so glad people are loving it so much! I didn't get a chance to scan the code!
I am 65 years old. I love rock n roll but was never into metal, especially death metal. I hated the bands, like KISS, that wear costumes. Yet, one day I was browsing around on RU-vid and came across a GHOST video. I am now a huge fan and went to the live concert this summer and the movie. I have seen hundreds of concerts including the greats like The Rolling Stones. Ghost was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.
I really enjoyed the film, both as a concert film (I missed their tour & don't really do arena shows or festivals anymore) & as an art film that expanded on the lore. We went on Thurs at 7pm & it wasn't really very crowded & the people that were there were pretty subdued. No costumes & only a few Ghost shirts altho a pair of young girls in our row had face paint on. I complimented them. Ghost is just so accessible & non pretentious & positive. Everything I loved about Hard Rock & Classic Heavy Metal with all the theatrics & mythology of Alice Cooper or Arthur Brown. The lampooning of the satanic panic is just the cherry on top.
Totally agree. Ghost makes music that I feel like everyone can enjoy no matter what your age or background is. Loved seeing all the people at both of my showings!
I don't know if Tobias has ever mentioned them as an influence, but the metal band GWAR helped pave the way for telling a story with a theatrical approach. If you like Ghost you might like them too.
It was such a great movie and performance. I’m hoping a blu ray/4K release will have the option to watch the full performance without the cutaways so we can enjoy all the solos and instrumental parts
The acting was campy, the dialogue was a little difficult to hear sometimes (Though, that might've been my theater), but it just felt so authentically Ghost. The setlist was amazing, the plot was easy enough to follow, the actual concert bit itself was absolutely incredible. I genuinely enjoyed it, and I can't wait to see if it comes out on Bluray or digital, because I want to relive it again.
Although I feel their music has declined since 2018, I really enjoyed the end credit song and scene. It was very moving. It took me back to a great time and place with this band.
It feels like Tobias with this movie is showing how much he values and loves this project and how he wants to approach it in the future. Can't wait to hear what new tunes sound like after that credits track.
I saw this. I wanted to hear more than I'd heard on the radio and see if I'd ever wanna go to a show. As Ghost seems to be a very hyped band these days. I can say the musicians are top tier players and they make what they do look easy. Their sound makes me think of a blend of ABBA and Metallica. Pop leaning, yet heavy in parts, but some songs are lullaby like to me too (there's lots of keyboards at times). I actually dosed off a couple times during the movie, but the movie is pretty long and I was tired going in. There were more fans than I expected where I saw the movie, mainly because country music fans are abundant where I live. I did talk to some fans on the way out who said they traveled a ways to see the movie though. I noticed a lot of female fans and some couples, and like those in the movie, couldn't tell if the guys were fans of the band or there to support the girlfriends. But the fans were quieter than I thought they'd be as well. The fans I spoke to said the movie was very much the same show they'd seen in concert. So I'm glad I saw the movie instead, cause it wasn't really my cup of tea in the end.
@@natesfilmreviews yeah, I had listened and seen their performance on here because people were protesting them ( West Texas). Looks like it's an awesome show.
I'm really trying not to say anything bad about it, but after seeing the same show live, on top of seeing various youtube vids of the very same concert.. I wished i had read what it was about, prior to going and watching it. I love Ghost, no doubt...but I think Tobias Forge would really benefit from a brainstorming session with Jack Black.
I dont have money bc ... im a minor and my parents dont like things like this. Obviously i cant watch it in theaters bc they didn't have it around my area. I have tried searching for it bht all I see is reviews or clips. So does anyone know where i could watch it 😅. Without having to make any payments?😢
@@jasonsmith530 Veeps is a pay per view as fair as Im aware and only available on the dates announced. no official news as to streaming or availability to purchase.
What did Tobias Forge gave us? That's the question i keep asking to myself after watching that masterpiece of a concert-movie. In the genre, this is the best I have ever seen, i didn't expected that. Because it's not only a perfectly recorded concert, it's more than that. I loved how they implemented the story of the band in the movie, and the way it's made doesn't affect the pace of the concert, it's brillant. Also, it's amazing to see our favourite papa directly in the eyes, and that lead to what i loved the most : the emotions. They succeeded to cross the screen, i felt like i was during a live concert. But the side effect of this, all those close up, makeus really emotional, a lot of people cried during the movie, me the first. Something impossible to restrain, because the end was coming for Copia. Then, there was all those little pieces of philosophy, and all that kindness that was piercing through the mask, something so deep and so strong that nothing could hide it. I don't want to spoil, but there is a special message for a certain category of people, and it was said in such a beautiful and kind way, it hit me directly in my heart. Tobias forge deeply love his public, and he gave us the most beautiful movie made for a metal band, the critics are raving, and it's well desserved, this is a piece of art. All the video of the story of ghost are assembled in a fantastic puzzle, everything makes sense now. The movie will please every kind of people, even the profanes of the ghost universe, but for the old fans, it's simply amazing, the communion is Real. Thank you for that beautiful gift, thank you for making our life more beautiful ♥️.
It's kind of wild how you can have a band like Ghost with its heavy metal roots and Satanic imagery end up being this family-friendly, almost wholesome experience (despite having so much overt sexuality in their lyrics) yet Ozzy Osbourne-probably one of the LEAST Satanic/demonic songwriters ever (the majority of his lyrics have always been pretty tame) has had to deal with being portrayed as Christianity's #1 most hated since pretty much '69. I hope we end up seeing Ghost and Ozzy doing a duet. I'd love to hear Ghost, Ozzy, and Lita doing 'Close My Eyes Forever'. I do notice that Tobias has toned down the darker elements of his storytelling in favor of doing things in a more cinematic way. I wouldn't be surprised to see him move on from Ghost and do a Danny Elfman and end up scoring films and maybe even writing screenplays.
Well... I was high when I went in and couldn't enjoy the first bit cause I was worried I just dragged my boyfriend to a boring concert film. We had seen them a year ago so I thought he was bored. I get Hella paranoid if I smoke more than I should so that kinda made it hard to enjoy. But towards the end when I was coming down, I was alright. We even talked about theories. He enjoyed it and likes the band so I guess it was a win? Minus the paranoia 😅
Don’t lump religious and right wing together. Some religious people are not right wing. Some right wing people are not religious. Further, many - not some - but many religious people just want to be left alone and don’t see the world as black and white and can appreciate art even when it comes off sinful. This is a common mistake people who are not religious make. It is not about simply following a set of rules and checking boxes but developing and cultivating a relationship with God as the imperfect vessels we are. I am a Christian and conservative, but I can appreciate the talent Ghost has. It is just not that simple.
@gboni66 I'm sure some people can feel that way and you can believe whatever you want, but as someone who grew up in the church and was raised by a minister the entirety of conservative ideology is rooted in Christian ideals and only exist because of the faith. I was heavily involved with the church into my early 20s and I can assure you if religion didn't exist neither would conservatism.
@@natesfilmreviews while i agree that religion does play a key role in melding a worldview that attempts to preserve tradition, preservation of tradition isn’t reliant on religion. As someone who was raised in the faith as well, i can say that they’re all kinds of sociopolitical beliefs among its members. I won’t invalidate your experience in it, but it seems like we might have experienced church in two completely different areas. Not everyone who goes to church is conservative let alone inclined to lean politically right. And several tenets of a right leaning perspective have nothing to do with religion.
An American here. Pardon me for snickering while I agree with you. I was discussing this with a friend after watching Tobias in an interview asking how to pronounce his name correctly and the fact that it is prounced differently in the US. Hearing him say his name and then listening to ourselves made us burst into peales of laughter. We laughed at how uneducated and unworldly we sounded. Thanks for sharing a laugh with me. I need to do better.
The short period of time that it took them to get from halls/theatre size to arena size was very impressive. One minute I was watching them at a nightclub, next tour round a fucking arena. And now they came away with this, the whole playing along with the storyline really grabbed people and pulled them in.
I literally have never commented on anything ever on RU-vid but I was compelled to say I completely agree with everything you said, it described what I really like about them that I couldn't quite put to words 🤌
