Unmentioned here is the fact that in Rivals 1, we got an expansion called the Workshop 4, which included some of the best fan-made characters in the game. Devs love their community so much, they made some of them effin' canon. They're all coming back for the sequel, and we're getting a new fan-made character as well from their latest workshop contest.
@@zamarion101yup! They haven't revealed the order characters will be released, but on top of New characters, they stated they want to eventually have the full original cast back, including the workshop 4 and excluding the guest characters, and every character that gets added will be FREE
They’ve also confirmed they’re working on a new version of the workshop. It will take 2 to 4 years before it releases, IF it actually pans out, but it’s freaking 3D user-created, developer sanctioned content like we’ve never seen before, and they plan on fully supporting and developing the game for at least four years, probably quite a bit longer. I’ve never played Rivals, but this is very impressive stuff.
Old ass Street Fighter checking in here. I've been an outsider wanting a platform fighter to inspire me to learn the genre for a while now. I went into the next fest demo having never played or really even heard about Rivals of Aether before. And after spending the last week playing it, I can confidently say it's the one. I'm in love, and I'll be sticking around. If you see me in ranked, do me a favor and don't hold back. I'm new to this, but I'm not new to taking my lumps when learning a new fighting game. And I genuinely want to get good with this one.
As a platform fighter player that got into street fighter later: welcome dude! I hope you have a great time and lemme know who you wanna play in Rivals
@@quarium5681 So far my favorite is Wrastor. I get that he's considered tricky to learn, but I was sold as soon as I saw he had a dive kick. I'm a sucker for aerial characters.
@@brainSnakeslucky for you sir, in every platform fighter I’ve ever played aerials are almost always some of the best and most useful movies a character has.
This game honestly clears Smash easily. The netcode is so good and it feels absolutely lagless to play online most games. The gameplay was made and balanced for competitive play and it shows. This is the game we always wished Smash Ultimate would be. Absolutely a must buy.
somewhat agree but at the same time strong disagree... : ( maybe its a character issue for me though. at this point in time i feel like i find no main, the ones i want to play are way too much work for effort and the game still has kragg, somewhat buttonmash-dashattack-cheese friendly and the tech skill is just not close
i play a lot of rivals 1 and what i love about it is how each character is designed to be as different as possible. In smash u can group the characters together, but in rivals every character is new, fresh and exciting
A heavily understated aspect of what makes rivals so special to me as a long time PR S4/Ult vet is The game isn’t trying to be Melee. Sure I’m going to have to sit down and master the melee mechanics, but without them you can absolutely still perform strings and sequences that feel so sick that us Ult players WANT to learn how to wave dash and cc just to squeeze every bit of dopamine we can out of this thing Most new plat fighters try to be melee, not understanding that Ult players won’t be interested and Melee players will almost always prefer melee to any clone-which is why they always go back after the first month or two. This one though? Between the buffer system, intuitive mechanics, training mode and JUICY dopamine rush when you land that hit-this one is shaping up to be a real stand-out platform fighter
The cool thing is that it has all the ultimate mechanics as well as all the melee mechanics so you can play with any play style you like and feel at home
@@Jollofmuncher2000 Honestly as someone who tried 1 I felt it was a bit too fast for me (Melee is fun but INCREDIBLY fast) so I'm glad to see the speed of this one slightly toned down for the average player
In the event that we get a new Smash on Switch 2 and they somehow work out having rollback, I would LOVE to see Rivals continue to thrive. The movement and attack options are insane, and that's coming from someone who only got to play the beta for 1 day.
Honestly this game looks like the balance of broken character concepts balanced to be more fair against each other. I've even heard that the worse character in this is just as viable as peach in melee. I think this and the good movement helps make the game look more fun to play (I couldn't play the beta) since you have a lot of good options yet still have to play against the other players options.
I think I saw the same video. It was Fleet, right? I'm maining her, and when you get the hang of her kit, she has SO much potential for some crazy setups. Her air movement being floaty is simultaneously one of her biggest weaknesses and strengths depending on how you use it.
The BETA was absolutly amazing. If you play it competitively Smash ultimate feels like a toxic relationship most of the time, so a genuine competitor that doesn't just try to emulate smash but with its own sauce was absolutely needed. Also, banger video, glad this popped up in my recommended!
Absolutely, luckily covid severed any remaining energy I had for Smash Ultimate. Being stuck with sonic, steve (or half of the cast) and Elite smash was hell.
That MVS skin you showed could be earned for free during the Batman event. MVS has problems, mostly technical ones, but monetization and F2P economy aren't amongst them.
This one definitely feels better to play than just about every smash "clone" out there. I'm pumped to see the lifespan of this game and am excited to play it in tourney.
@ezelalia5739 i have 1500 man its a balanced fighter with hundreds of options fully supported dev team that's active and hosts their own tournaments smash is a cluster fuck of Nintendo characters stuck on a console that's as outdated as an Xbox 360 lmao
I really wasn’t sold on this game by watching it but I tried it the last day of the early demo thing and now I can’t stop thinking about it… 2 more days baby!!
As a melee player, rivals 1 was always my favorite "melee clone". It had the good feeling movement of melee while not making itself too complicated to pick up as well as doing away with L canceling. It also has its own mechanics which help add to its identity and helps seperate itself from melee. I also love that hitstun is pretty much just as long because it allows for more combo potential. Im so happy to see rivals 2 get the attention it deserves
Bro playing the demo was mind blowing. I was always just a casual smash fan, never really getting into it besides having fun with my family and doing local battles at school with my friends. Naturally I was hot garbage but it was fun anyway. When I started in the demo it was the same thing, but I could actually improve and genuinely got better over the course of the demo, going from a 20 loss streak to a 5 win streak and barely managing to squeak into gold rank. Really hope this game pops off cuz its super good.
My favourite part about videos like this is that multiversus is doing fine and is a considerably better game than it was at launch, and that only took like 3 weeks of updates to get there. But people will still insist that it isn't
@@thuroria7631 it's blatantly better than the beta, the average players on steam don't reflect the playerbase and the game is clearly doing good enough, far better than the other plat fighters. It starts a new season every 60 days, that boosts the player numbers each time and with the gameplay only getting better it's keeping people coming back. It's the exact strategy Rivals 2 is going for
Yeah, people who played it earlier once decided it's garbage and will keep insisting it's garbage without looking at how the game is currently. It isn't a perfect game but that's frustrating to witness.
@@thuroria7631who cares? More people are playing it on Xbox and PlayStation. That Marvel vs Capcom collection caps at under 3K players at launch yet is a top seller on consoles
Best thing about rivals 2 is save states. Omfg the training room actually functioning like a training room is nice. It's not overall the best as I don't think there's a "Do X out of hitstun" yet, but it just being there already makes me wanna lab the game more than any smash game ever
i feel like rivals 2 could have pixel art too, if it was a more datailed and with a greater amount of pixels it would be enough to apeal to the mainstream and maintain its charm
Nice video! Rivals 2 really is looking amazing. As a casual player that never really got into smash but has played some brawlhalla, I love the first game. My only gripes with it are: - I don't like shields, I liked there only being a parry - I don't like ledge grabs, wall jumps seemed clearer and less 'teleporty' to me - The visual upgrade is great, but it does make workshop content way less accessible, since it was easier to make a pixelart character than a 3d one
Gaming by 2025 lookin good, Marvel Rivals, Rivals 2, Even Rell Seas if you caught up in roblox news. Im fucking hyped cuz no new games have really popped off recently, latest one would probably be Valorant.
I’ve played smash most my life and only recently played Brawlhalla and I thought that shit was peak but now I’m waiting in anticipation for this game cuz I Played one match of the demo and was HOOKED BRO I don’t even have that good of a computer and yet I will literally sit at it for HOURS playing this
I think my biggest problem with the game was that it seemed to have been developed entirely on controller. I'm used to playing on keyboard from brawlhalla and the NextFest demo had multiple keyboard problems. For one my keybindings would reset after every match. Two, holding the jump key prevents you from pressing any attack key meaning you'll have to fully let go of the key before you can input in an attack. If there was more support for keyboard then I would have much more fun, but when half my keys don't even register because my jump key is still sending input is wild to me. Thirdly the game didn't support my split keyboard setup so I had to have my hands uncomfortably close in order to play on a different keyboard.
@@thuroria7631 Yeah, I made a player tag for it. I think they ended up fixing that issue, but it was still a very frustrating few hours before it was fixed. For the nkey rollover, I'm using a Logitech G815, I can't find specifically what it's rollover limit is, but other logitech models have around 26 keys of rollover (from brief googling). Can you elaborate why you think it's the issue? I'm not sure I fully understand.
Rivals is he only fighting game that feels just as good as Smash. And the workshop makes it uncontested I got 4k hours on SSBU and 200 on Rivals. Shits nice
Battle passes absolutely get me to log in daily, but they kill my long term enjoyment, and I will never sit down for more than a short while after getting used to a game with them. Big W not having passes.
The fact that it's not on Switch is a benefit honestly. They didn't need to skimp on graphics or input lag to make the game playable on that glorified toaster of a handheld. It'd be neat to see it on the PS5 and Xbox though.
I think you meant to say Slap city. Jokes aside, it's been ages since we got a smooth platform fighter, even Ultimate feels clanky. Rivals 2 is gonna be awesome
Beautiful editing, id just make sure that people know they can set the strong(smash) attacks to work like they do in smash and not have to have a designated button.
its kinda sad that the workshop is very unlikely to return, because that means i cant have peppino spaghetti from hit 2023 indie game pizza tower, fighting the funni skeleton man from belowfable
Man tbh I think this games deserve every bit of success coming its way and more. But playing the demo i couldn’t get use to the floaty feeling of the characters movements. I don’t know why.
I always loved seeing videos of rivals of aether and smash, other pc plataforms fighters weren't as carismatic to mee and i dont have a switch. But i dont have friends that like the genre and when i bought it was laggy as shit online bc im from brazil. I'll give it another try when rivals 2 releases. Maybe it is worth it even with the lag
I think the only thing holding it back is being PC exclusive. Game looks phenomenal but the fear in the back of my mind is that not letting it grow the way it should. Even with console release later, it’ll be an old game by then and won’t pull the numbers it could’ve
I really hope this makes Nintendo wake up to what the majority of the platform fighter community wants and make actual improvements if they ever make another smash
