STORY:
Helen Ruth Spence of Arkansas County was a famous outlaw and prisoner whose story captured the imaginations of many during her life and engendered a body of legend afterward. She was the focus of unprecedented media coverage in her day, up until her death at the hands of Arkansas prison officials.

THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

I hate the fact that Helen had to suffer such cruelty and torture at the hands of these vile disgusting devils..but they never broke her and they knew the only way to control Helen was to kill her... They never broke her. She gave them a run for their money and a hellava fight..She is legend and they are exactly where they need to be

This is an awesome story of Helen. I think justice was served in her favor. I did read that the man who killed her received his demise from a baker that gave him a special loaf of bread. He did not wake up.

I was born in Chicago in 1952. Moved to Augusta, Arkansas in 1961 with my grandparents. We lived on the White River, just probably a couple hundred yards away. I remember the flooding coming about 30-40 feet from our back door. We swam in the river, called it the beach, a couple miles out of town. Had to take typhoid shots to enjoy our time where. This brings up memories regarding the White River. Great story , thank you!

The Pea Farm is about 10 miles north of me. My ancestors settled in that area in the 1850’s. Now where Pea Farm was located, there is a subdivision where the streets are names after the women that had been imprisoned there. Such a sad & sickening story. 😪

Very sad , this story really got a tear in my eyes. I admire the love Ada had for Helen, saving her stepdaughters life by being a quick thinker. I saw a program many years ago ,I wish I remember the name of it but it was after a huge flood. The show was about the folks called the River Rats. The house boats looked pretty rough most had a few inches of water one the floors but they said it wasn’t always like that. I remember they showed how the house boats had all types of electric cords running between the boats & the electric poll supplied to buildings on land. So the washer & fridges were up on wood planks so they could run without electrocuting the families . The kids didn’t have shoes and went to Church in at least clean clothes. The families were very poor and had a deep twang in their speech when they spoke. I saw this about 20 years ago.

Sad. Sad. Sad. Was there not someone on her side for god's sake. It seems she was fighting it all by herself in that prison. Disgusting. Thanks for bringing her story to light but it just shows us yet again, the way justice is not done...and continues to be corrupt. And how some people in power are just disgusting. Whoever attached that brass plate to the tree knew what they were doing, or consulted somebody who did. I am a forest worker. The plate was attached to the tree with springs, to allow for the growth of the tree over time. Simply wrapping a straight piece wire around a tree will eventually kill it, as the wire will girdle the tree and cut off the cambium layer under the bark. The springs don't do that because they stretch as the tree grows. Great video, as always 💗

What a remarkable woman. The people I truly admire are the crime victims that stand up in court and forgive the perpetrators . That said, not everyone is prepared to do that. This lady made a hard choice and was prepared to pay the price with courage and mental toughness. She never let them destroy her. They actually had to kill her to defeat her. She went on into the next life with her head held high and a smile on her face.
