I would not get rid of the old keys, make wind chimes out of it, the spoons if design on end, were bent and cut into rings, which were very popular. Arie that boat label 1926, blue one 1948, Glenn’s are nice too, put on a wood plaque to hang up with space to add.Glenn took your spot Marie. Nigel well they were struggling with magnet, throw yours in, hahaha. Fantastic finds, that’s why I think when you gather everyone to magnet fish for good cause, have tables where you can trade finds with your duplicates, or what you do not collect, or sell and it goes into the donation pot. Edit- Thanks Marie for providing the history on these boat labels, maybe next time you find one from 1800’s

In all seriousness, that is really a museum quality display of boat tags. Frame them up and a local museum might like to display the collection. They are a real nice part of history. I would suspect that the bottom there and the current are really perfect for the tags to collect in one spot. (Since you found the filler neck for a bomb, possibly the bomb exploded in the river there and created a crater with the right conditions to act as a trap for the tags?) Another trip there in a month or so should yield another good haul. Congrats of the great finds. I will speculate that the large number of locks and pieces of chain you find in the river have fallen off the boats, and were used to tie them up at night. I believe that plate has Arabic writing on it. Google Translate should help decipher that.

Marie, that small spade you fished out, could be a coal shovel from an old steam boat. Thats just typical of you Peakys, go out and beat Nigel, he's usually the one to get multiples, but this time you really surpassed yourselves, firstly Marie with the bags of cutlery and then oh so many conservancy plaques, wowee. If my memory serves me right, I moored just there on a pleasure boat mooring, and they had a pub that was very popular for the after work on the way home brigade of Reading. These were private moorings I was only given permission because I had a Dunkirk Little Ship, that was built in 1930 in Castleford and went down the East Coast and onto the Thames. So Lazy Days would have had registration plaques for each year on the Thames, sadly the EA changed to plastic stickers. But what about the mooring cannon behind you, I think you were at the site of an old boatyard and the yearly tags were chucked in the river when new ones were fitted. Further upriver on the north bank is a large house, watermill and church, they were used in the film The Eagle Has Landed. A replica of the church interior was built in an adjacent field as the owner did not want rifles taken into the church. Also, a pub and other buildings were built around the mill to form a village. I had worked with the action vehicles looking after and driving the WWII Jeeps and White halftrack that was used as a Bren carrier in the film. It was a real hot summer and so a swim in the Thames after work was great.

I would suggest that spot where you found all those registration plates was an official landing stage, where the new plates were issued. That may be the reason there were so many in one area. In those days the old plates were of no value, so got dropped in the drink. Also remember, it is quite possible some of those boats could have easily have gone over to rescue the troops from Dunkirk. I wonder if its possible to trace the boat registrations through a maritime museum.? Get on it Marie.! From one Video editor to another, well done for the info segments. www.youtube.com/@G1ZQCArtwork/featured David.

I can only assume that , where you discovered all those boat tags was a mooring point on or near a change of year point, off with old and on with the new ? … Also I reckon those tags from the War years will be much rarer than the rest because there would have been far fewer boats during that period?
