We've only had our Rivian for two months, so we haven't had to endure the pain of non Tesla fast charging for long. Thank goodness that nightmare is over!
In this video, we cover the process of getting your R1 connected to Tesla's charging network. It's just about as easy as a Tesla and the charging speeds are as fast and consistent as we'd expect.

Well, you non longer have to put up with crappy chargers. This is truly game changing. It seems like the legacy providers were more interested in delaying the transition than advancing it. While Tesla has no other interest. Its EVs or nothing.

They ADDED ANOTHER HEADACHE! IF they want to USE TESLA SUPERCHARGER, their Charging Port must be in "REAR DRIVER SIDE" or "FRONT PASSENGER SIDE". I've encountered an almost a fist fight here in TEXAS, when a Ford MACH E & Rivian R1S occupied 4 SLOTS. The worst part is, the owners of those 2 vehicles was SMIRKING & RUDE. (I own Tesla S & X, and waiting for my Cybertruck) IF TESLA wants EVERY EV use their CHARGING STATIONS, they SHOULD make a MANDATORY RULE that they can only use it IF they will change their charging port to "Rear Driver Side" OR "Front Passenger Side", period.

1:50 Sasha or anyone else, do you know how that "deliberately inefficient" operation is? How does it "dump" power as heat in the stators? At a stop, I guess they energize the phase wires in a configuration that doesn't move the vehicle, but what about while moving? Is it just "missing" in the combustion-engine sense, where is mistimes some of the phase switches?

Exactly, the motor passes current in a way that doesn't produce torque. So it just uses the motor as a resistive heater. It can do this while stationary or while moving! While moving the angle of the currents relative to the rotor is shifted - normally around 90 degrees would be the most efficient angle for operation, so reducing the angle while keeping the output torque the same puts a lot of heat into the stator windings, which carries out through the coolant!

Also, what happens if you suddenly request a lot of power while in this deliberately inefficient mode? Have you tested this yet?

Problem is - it takes two spots. So when you go to a busy charger with a line - what happens? Rivian for the loss on the charging port location. They copied Tesla on everything else - why not that?

Tesla is working on some supercharger extension cables that should solve this issue.
