One of the best Rivian videos I’ve watched. Fair and balanced feedback, not all hype. Ditto on camp speaker trade-in and Gen1 Driver+ enhancements. Ironically, Gen1 Driver+ only works around metropolitan areas where I’m least likely to use it and not on the highways I take for my weekend adventures. Please Rivian expand the coverage, particularly given how expensive the cars are.

The biggest thing I see with Gen 2 is the efficiency increases. The Gen 1 is basically rated at 2.6 miles per kilowatt hour if you take the rated range and divide by the KWH size of the battery. The Gen 2 is rated at 3 miles per kilowatt hour, that is a large increase and isn't being talked about enough in my opinion. Its nearly Tesla Model X level efficiency in a much more desired form factor of a SUV or Truck.

There is a lot of talk about the interior lights. I've been told that the Gen1 interior lights were only capable of 8 colors many of which didn't look very good. The orange, red, and green that were used for the various holidays were about all they could get out of them. The Gen2 interior lights are full RGB and they have a larger pallet to work with.

I feel like they could give us simple colors in Gen 1

@@riviantrackr and I think that is what Wassym has finally confirmed will be coming. We probably won't get the same color pallet as the Gen 2 lights but it will be something.

I’m mostly jealous of the washers on the front and rear cameras. I wish there was a good aftermarket solution for this.

All the footnotes say the ranges are estimated based off the 22" sport wheel for Large/Max and Tri so the arrow set of whees should in theory add to the 420 rated range and I like the way it looks with the arrow cover too, I have inquired to Rivian about this as well.

Still trying to decide which wheels I want for gen 2. My R1T had 21" wheels, I kept the aeros on and liked the look. They performed well too. Now trying to decide between 22" and 20".

I would like to see those ascend interiors be available to the Dual Max at least and probably the Dual Large as well.

Id rather they decouple the interior in the trimotor/quad motor so I don't have to get seats that look like ego waffles and keep the pricing down.

Im trying to find out from Rivian if the power tonneau cover can be purchased after the sale or if it absolutely has to be ordered with the truck in order to get it.
@riviantrackr
@riviantrackr 4 месяца назад
Rivian has said it would be sold in the Gear Shop eventually
@davidmcottrell
@davidmcottrell 4 месяца назад
If you are ordering a Gen 2 and are on the fence, I'd recommend absolutely buying it at time of purchase. It'll probably be cheaper than the gear shop and you'll get it right away vs waiting months, or years, or maybe never for it to show up in the gear shop. If you already have a Gen 1, I'd contact Rivian once a month and keep asking.

@@davidmcottrell Yes I was more thinking in the case of buying used and the vehicle didn't have it or if the spec being ordered put the vehicle over the Federal Tax credit and this would be a way to lower the vehicle below $80K and then purchase the powered tonneau cover afterwards basically with the federal credit dollars.

The narrative of the standard battery pack being a better road tripping option is so flawed. The Max pack and Large pack will always be a better road tripping battery. The delta between the speed of charging 10 to 80 is too small to say the standard pack is better. Again 10% to 80% in the Standard pack is the same as 10% to 55% in the Max pack and 10% to 67% in the Large pack. So if you want to stop more often as you would need to in a Standard pack on your road trips then you could simply charge less time than a Standard pack with a Max/Large pack because you won't need to charge to 80% to get the 189 miles back in the pack that you would be getting in a Standard pack.
@riviantrackr
@riviantrackr 4 месяца назад
I don’t think it’s flawed at all. I would rather hold 200 kWh up until 70% than the current Large or Max which drop off due to thermals.
@darinbrazil5496
@darinbrazil5496 4 месяца назад
@@riviantrackr Its simple math here come on, you would rather sit for 30 min to get 70% of the battery back which is 189 miles of the rated 270 when you can sit for less time in a Max or Large pack to get the equivalent 189 miles of charge back? The charge rate doesn't matter as much when you have more range available. The Max pack only needs 10% to 55% to get what you will get from 10% to 80% in a standard pack. So test the speed from 10% to 55% and see how long you sit in a Max pack compared to 10% to 80% in a Standard pack. And if you want to test a Large pack go from 10% to 67% and see how long you are sitting. Also keep in mind that 10% in a Max pack is 42 miles left as per rated range where 10% in a Standard pack is 27 miles left as per rated range so when you add back the 70% in a Standard pack you are at 216 miles of range where when you add back the 189 miles to the Max pack you are at 231 miles of range. So actually you want to drive the Max pack down to 27 miles of range or about 6% and then add back the 45% to get your 189 miles of range back which would be 6% to 51% and then you are doing and exact apples to apples comparison. The more range you have the more the 10% rule becomes obsolete because 10% of 420 is much more than 10% of 270.

@@darinbrazil5496 I have road tripped with my 2019 Audi E-Tron vs. my R1T Quad Large. The E-Tron only gets 200 miles per charge, yet it beats the truck in a long road trip. Use ABRP to calculate a standard vs large pack. ABRP shows Seattle to San Fran taking 14h17m on Dual Large, or 14h3m on Dual Standard.

Perhaps if you are towing, the range would determine the battery needed. I like the idea of a battery with potentially 200 miles of range with a small travel trailer, given that unhitching each time is an issue.
