This thing is really cool. With each wheel being independently driven you could have some serious off road grip with the right management. I wonder how the suspension handles...

I mean, with the right modification to it, it sounds like suspension travel could be really long. Not sure I’d rock crawl or even mud bog with this thing, but I’d want to take it on some long range adventures!

I have been saying for years....the off road world needs an electric 4x4 truck!!! Im happy to see its finally here. I love my friends Prius that allowed him to drive from Vegas to San Francisco for only $70 rounds trip. (its a hybrid) I want that performance in a truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember VIA motors with the 100mpg hybrid Silverado we saw on Jay Leno garage? I would have bought that on day 1 if they sold it.

It cost me $750 to go from central IL to Expo and back. I’m super stoked to see the industry try to change direction.

This is absolutely going to be my next car. It will replace my Tacoma for both daily driving and adventuring. I previously looked at getting a Tesla for commuting but I would have had to keep my truck for dirt biking and camping. This rig does it all! And there are so many smart design choices all over. The only thing is if I will be able to afford it, but I'm already saving up!

Yeah I saw that concept you posted where it was all decked out. I’m not much of a pickup guy, so I’d probably lean toward the SUV too. Who knows though?

If u want to go electric..u can go to west coast ev customs and convert anything for about 18 grand. No joke.

Conversions use existing transaxle ect ... electric motor controller and batteries replace the motor and it bolts to transmission...

Sure, but I don't think you get the same amount of power or towing capacity using existing driveline components.

So 1 motor for each wheel. Any one of those goes kaput and you’d be stranded.

That’s not how that works. One motor goes, you still have three others. If the one motor in your gas powered vehicle goes, what happens?

There's a lot of tech in there that makes it worth 70k where some other 70k vehicles would not have their prices justified. I don't have the money to buy one, but if I did, I'd totally give it a shot.

You can't buy a truck for $70K that will come close to doing what this thing will do.

@@lavol1 the 70k truck is just the base truck. It won't be as lavish or have the good battery packs. Sure for electric at 70k you can't touch it.. especially since it's damn near the only one. But for fossil fuels there are several trucks that are very nicely appointed and set up for that price. Not sure what the base truck would do that say a Powerwagon wouldn't.

Jim Dawson, I’m sure those parameters are not ironed out as of yet since they have a lot to do with what longevity they desire for the batteries and even what chemical mix the batteries will have. Also it depends on the charger output available.

Found a bit of info on the inter webs. “With batteries that big, charging speed becomes hugely important. The R1T will support DC fast charging up to 160 kilowatts, fast enough to add 200 miles of range in just 30 minutes -- assuming you can find a DC fast charger that supports such high power. On a Level 2 charger, the most common kind at public charge points, Rivian says the truck should be able to charge in eight hours -- though it's unclear which battery pack that applies to.”
