I think we will see the most improvements in 2024 with hundreds of more locations throughout the USA this year. I've been driving EVs since 2018, and every trip I take more DC fast chargers are on the way. Oklahoma City just got a new 16 stall, 250 kw units, and 10 level two units at 625 NE 36th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
@roydelpozo4816
@roydelpozo4816 7 месяцев назад
Just to make sure, are you talking about the new Tesla charger for the 250 kW units? As for the level two chargers at 625 how many kilowatts are there in what plug do they use? I live in Lawton and I cannot wait till we get a supercharger here. I have two cars with free supercharging that whenever I come back into town I could top off before going home. The Oklahoma City 150 kW chargers at the outlet we’re always busy so I’m glad those 250s will relieve the pressure.

@davidws5439 7 месяцев назад
@roydelpozo4816 Yes, 16 version 3 Tesla 250 kw chargers by the new Homeland store and 10 level two probably 11.5 kw units, and they also have a couple of other brands of J1772 in the parking lot. All the Tesla chargers are working for sure. Look on your Tesla navigation and you will see them. Tesla also had another supercharger station going in aronf Reno and Classen by the Sonic drive-in, but it is not working or started yet.

@roydelpozo4816 They are Tesla NACS connectors. Francis Energy has a lot of DC fast chargers in Oklahoma. You really need to get the RFID card in advance so you have your credit card info and account set up. EA has CCS1 DC fast chargers at Walmart in Moore, Oklahoma.

One day when other vehicles have access to the Tesla network, I want either Rivian or a Ford lightning. But until then, it’s Tesla all the way. I’m one of those weird people who have yet to encounter a non-functional charger that was not listed in the app first. Anyway, love these road trip videos, but you can afford to be stuck at non functional chargers. most of us need to get to where we’re going and being at a charger and not being able to charge is panic inducing to the rest of us. The 40 series cars are pleasant compact-sized hatchbacks, but on some surfaces the tires can be a bit noisy with the firm suspension in the 2021-23 models (I have a 2022). They redid the suspension and motors this year. No idea how they compare to an R1S, but I’d have thought it worth looking at the EX90 next year. It too has seating for 7, air suspension and a similar price point. Should be pretty quiet too as Volvo’s flagship vehicle.

@davidmenasco5743 6 месяцев назад
For daily driving, especially with a long-ish commute, in many places the difference in fuel cost is so great, you can pay for the truck with the savings on fuel, in about 5 or 6 years. Then, for the remainder of the truck's life, whatever your current (ICE truck) fuel bill is, you're saving nearly that much every month. This can be several thousand dollars per year.

I wish Kyle and other EV RU-vidrs would mention the time it takes to drive between charging stops rather than just mentioning the miles. Not mentioning the time makes it seem as though you're doing nothing but charging with EVs, and gives naysayers even more bulletpoints. The average driver is unfortunately fairly clueless when it comes to distances. I can hear them out there saying "250 miles? I do that in 2 1/2 hours. Sometimes in just 2." Not to mention the mathematically challenged newer generations. "It takes you than long? I usually do it in an hour and a half, -- easily." Unfortunatey, busy RU-vidrs rarely read the comments on their videos.

@@junehanzawa5165 - and you wish to give them more stuff to debate? Kyle drives 80+ mph on his freeway stints. His logic is that his EV charges (adds miles) way faster than he can burn them up, so he’ll drive at what he considers a safe speed - perhaps faster than some of us. This paints his EV picture as being less efficient than it could be if he drove slower, hence, unreported time/distance.
@junehanzawa5165
@junehanzawa5165 7 месяцев назад
@@dennislyon5412 I don't think any one of you have a clue on how clueless most drivers are on time and distance when driving. For example, if you ask most any driver that if you have an EV with 300 miles of range when full and you head south to Florida from NYC on the NJ Turnpike how far could it go before running out, many will say, "Oh, about half way through New Jersey, which is an hour and a half." While others will say, "Oh, all the way to the end of New Jersey, or about 2 to 2 and a half hours. if you stick to the speed limit." When in reality you can go from NYC all the way PAST Fredericksburg, Virginia if you stick to the speed limit, or about 5 hours. Now, I know Kyle drives at 80 miles per hour. So do most of us, myself included. And I've made it to Washington, DC doing mostly 80 on a Model 3 LR from NYC (over 4 hours none stop). While a friend made it to Fredericksburg, Virginia doing mostly 70 on his Rivian R1T with its 328 miles of range from NYC. And that's about 5 hours of none stop driving. When we tell others that, most are absolutely shocked, while other say it's not possible and that we're exagerating or outright fibbing. That's there's no way an EV can go 5 hours of driving on a single charge. That all they see on RU-vid EV channels are them charging all the time on road trips. And it's the time spent driving without stopping to charge that shocks them the most. And that's because RU-vidrs rarely if ever mention the time spent driving to the next charger. The editing makes it seem to the average viewer as though they're charging every other hour. When in reality Kyle, even charging to about only 70% and going 80 on his Rivian, spends about 3 hours to get to his next charger, yet it seem as though he is stopping to charge every other hour. And that's on the RU-vidr for not mentioning the time spent to get there, not on the viewer with their lack of distance and time concept. In fact, I dare any of you to ask the same question to your friends and family based on the time and distances between your locales of where you're from based to the EV ranges mentioned above. For example, how many hours could you spend driving from LA to SF on a fully charged EV with 300 miles of range before needing to stop to charge? Or from Miami, FL to Jacksonville. Etc. You can ask both at 80mph or at 70. You'll be absolutely shocked at their answers.
@dennislyon5412
@dennislyon5412 7 месяцев назад
@@junehanzawa5165 - to non EV drivers, they might see the examples of charging your car up every night. That means you can’t possibly go more than 1-1 1/2 hours without stopping to charge, right? I don’t want any part of that! When in reality, many EVs can go 4 to 6 hours between a full battery and the need to stop and charge. Maybe that’s what needs to be conveyed in the videos (I drove 180 miles, which took me 2.5 hours to get to the next charger)?

That first stop that Kyle made at 50 Cent a kilowatt… I hate to say it’s hard to justify going electric when it’s more than gas. If fill up consistently stay cheaper than gas than the delay can be justified. I really look forward to an F150 lightning but the reality is unless that charging curve gets way better. 100 kW is just too damn slow. Especially on the large battery. But it will make a great in town around town vehicle. I’ll be keeping my Tesla for road trips. By comparison, the second stop was really cheap.
@ab-tf5fl
@ab-tf5fl 7 месяцев назад
50 cents/kWh is too simplistic. You have to also consider that the first 200 miles was cheap home-charged electricity, plus 200 additional free miles from overnight charging at the hotel. Those two factors are huge, so even if 50 cents/kWh is a little bit more than gas, electricity likely still comes out ahead overall. In any case, the real savings from going electric happens not on road trips, but in all the daily driving you do around town when not going on a road trip, where all of the electricity comes from the home charger. Most people don't road trip all that often, so it's daily driving that dominates the cost to fuel the vehicle. Agree, 100 kWh is a bit slow for a vehicle the size of a Rivian truck. It's good enough for a sedan. This is why optimizing the charging sessions and not plugging in too long is important.
@roydelpozo4816

@@ab-tf5fl I have had a tesla for 7 years now so i am no kind of anti electric guy. But there is reality involved. When your electric charging costs outrun gas and you have to wait for slow charging and maybe get to non working chargers. I have been blessed with my teslas * (3 now) that i have never been stranded and they have treated me well and the superchargers have worked like magic. I have only been able to really travel in the last 5 years as before that the supercharger network was not built out enough. So i am definitely an advocate but it has to make sense. In 2025 when all brands get to use a mature working charging network i will be super happy to get an f150 lighting. But going through the navigation not knowing if when i get there i will be able to charge is a big now. That said, my point on the first charge at 50 cents per KW and relatively slow at that was its hard to convince someone electric is the way to go if its slower and more expensive. The use case of a pickup truck actually doing work is a no go when you have to "waste" an hour plus on charging every few hundred miles. But for car or suv use in a few years i can recommend any brand but till then i always tell people telsa is the way to go. Great local car and great road trip car. On my 16 MS i stop for 25 min every 200 miles to go another 200 miles ( weather and wind might cut that down to 150 if its harsh or very cold). My 17 X is about 5% shorter on range but alot more room. My wifes 22 M3P needs 15 every 200 miles ( on 250 chargers) . just enough for a bathroom break and a coffee. Kyle did say on the beginning of his trip he was taking the worse EV for the trip . That will not be the case in 2 years when he can use dependable chargers. As for homecharging ( your main point i believe) its great if you can work in the range of the chargers. Thats some real cost savings there. Even if you cant home charge there are options. A friend of mine was spending 800 a month on fuel commuting back in forth 60 miles each way daily Dallas to ft worth. I got him an older model S with free charging and he charges 30 to 70 daily for 15 to 20 min and now has a 550 car payment driving a newer nicer car than his pickup. For Gas money ;) The math can be made to work. My original point is we are not all Kyle and its hard to chance being stuck on a road trip due to crappy non tesla chargers!

@@roydelpozo4816I do wonder what workers are these who spend their work days driving hundreds of miles, all over God's green earth? Most people I know who drive pickup trucks for work are working less than 20 miles from the shop. There are certainly exceptions to this rule. So let diesel trucks be the exception. In the vast majority of work truck scenarios, BEV saves both time and money.

@@davidmenasco5743 Saves money for sure! And again unless you haul hay or an rv or need some distance a BEV is the way to go. I bought my first tesla in 2016 ( hell of a sacrifice at the price at the time but still a quality product that works!) and i have zero regrets and tell everyone i meet or talk to about the electric benefits! As for the truck... i really want an f150 but i hate the super slow charging speed of 100kw. Id never be able to take it on a road trip like ever! My old ass 2016 tesla charges at peaks of 180kw when everything is perfect and holds over 100 KW to 75% its a free fall after that but enough to get me going to the next SC. You are very correct that most people who buy a truck should be able to function with the stock range. Personally i would not as my closest city is 100 miles away and if i travel there at the speed limit i wont have enough to get back with the small battery f150. The big one will but now if i tow my RV to the lake im out of juice in an insane short time. So for me it wont work. But for contractors it should work awesome! They just need to be educated on the why.
