Jordan finishes the Cybertruck adventure back to Colorado, this time using mostly Electrify America! On a route of entirely V2 superchargers, it saved a surprising amount of time.

Your charging experience with EA reflects what a lot of us "older" CCS drivers experienced when traveling with EA 3 to 5 years ago, which is why you'll see some of the more experienced CCS EV owners pushing back when people crap on EA. That being said, your experience is similar because those stations and that route are still under utilized by EV owners, and EA really starts to run into problems as the usage goes up and the stations get crowded.

15:18 The 350 kW rating is valid because these will provide 500 A up to a maximum of 700 V. The 200 kWh Ultium EVs will see the full 350 kW on these units (actually closer to 370 kW because the current appears to drop off slower than the voltage increases); however, the bigger issue is that these are "balanced" chargers, so there's only about 175 kW available per stall when both dispensers are in use.
@BillyONeal

Considering Superchargers seem to be considered the gold standard and they only have 360/4=90kw per stall 175 is probably fine?

@@BillyONeal I think so. The V3 Superchargers are great for their intended purpose (supporting 100 kWh and smaller battery EVs with high peak charging speeds at low battery, but low average charging speeds overall). But don't let the Tesla fans catch you saying that they are underpowered and in need of improvement compared to modern DCFC.

@@Freakyguy666 Maybe. We know that Tesla as a company is aware that their Superchargers are now operating at a disadvantage, but Tesla fans are still arguing that V3 is more than good enough for the Cybertruck. Even after multiple Cybertruck videos from Out of Spec showcasing V3s derating after just 10 minutes and superior charging speeds on 800 V CCS1 dispensers, some Tesla folk are still denying that the Superchargers are in dire need of a complete overhaul.

The mono-wiper was a dumb idea to begin with. Like everything on the Cybertruck an engineer told Elon this is a horrible idea, and Elon told them to design it anyway. First off, replacement.. not like you can go into Wal-mart and get a new set of Cybertruck wipers. Second cost.. replacing the wiper is not going to be cheap or easy, the design is proprietary so i can't just unscrew them and put on new arms and away I go. If the arm breaks you are going to have to get it replaced by Tesla and everyone know OEMs don't charge out the wazoo for anything. Just a bad design all around but I would expect nothing less from the Incel King himself.

It’s not like these are new innovations or difficult issues that the the rest of industry has had issues with over the past 100 years… Tesla has some amazing, innovative technology with things like 48v systems and the computer systems onboard, but they can’t get the basics right that even the cheapest econobox from 1970 has no issues with.
@bullshitbingo2259
@bullshitbingo2259 27 дней назад
I totally agree with you, Tesla has some real quality issues even after way over a decade of manufacturing cars. The reason is simple, Tesla just doesn't care about quality, safety or customer service. But I have to disagree with you on "amazing innovative technology" 48V, steer-by-wire etc. is nothing new and has been implemented decades ago. Tesla just use them as a stand-alone solution compared to other manufacturers because they do not care about quality engineering or safety but rather aim for the lowest manufacturing cost possible, while still charging premium prices at the same time. Check out how Porsche handles the 48V system, they managed to run the powerful active suspension directly from the 800V system and only use a lightweight 12V battery for the rest in the recently updated Porsche Taycan. The old generation still had an additional 48V DC-DC converter. Tesla however uses the 48V battery for more components and also uses a DC-DC converter to step the voltage down from the 800V architecture to 48V and even 12V, so in the end you have more (and with a different voltage) components than the Porsche which hooked up the most performing components to the 800V and uses a smaller 12V only where necessary.

19:23 - It's based on the maximum rate the vehicle says it's capable of. So a vehicle that's only capable of 89kW will be charged 28 cents, a vehicle that's capable of 91kW (even if you plug in at 90% and only draw 5kW!) will be charged 44 cents. Some states don't let the charging networks charge per kWh, because then they'd have to legally register as an "electric utility", so they _have_ to charge per minute. It would be nice if EA did it like Tesla and varied the pricing based on the actual kW draw per minute. (AKA: Ramping down the price as the charging draw ramps down.)

@@jagpilotohio on a long trip I am getting something that is hybrid, drives quiet and is comfortable. The incel camino is none of those things. I rented a Tesla a few years back when I was in Orlando for the weekend. It was alright, but if i had my charger I would've had to fill up on gas maybe 2-3 times. I felt like I had to stop every 3-4 hours to charge then wait 20-30 minutes for it to charge. It is a lot of wasted time. I don't think EVs are the future, I know we don't need to be digging up dead dinosaurs, but right now unless something changes cost-wise (I mean a good EV at the low end is around 45-50K) and range wise I don't see them getting adopted by the masses. You think a Buc-ee's is going to replace their 100 gas pumps with EV chargers? Good luck with that. Then like you said they are so hit and miss... my car can theoretically charge at 250w, but right now I am only getting 35w, let me disconnect and try this stall, oh moderately better 90w... then payment methods. Gas pump tap card, pump gas. EV charger, download app, put in credit card, authorize start charging. If the US gov't and/or states want me to drive an EV by 2030 they are going to need to step up their game. The charging infrastructure across this country is shit at best. Then deciding to go with the tesla charging plug only to have Elon give them a big middle finger by firing the super charger team was another great idea. I hope the people in congress that decided that got a nice bonus from Elon. Stock options and campaign contributions?

I have an issue where FSD 12.3.6, on a 50 mph road sees the Route 5/15 road sign and it thinks the speed limit is 15 mph, so it only goes about 20 mph... in a 50, it's very dangerous. I have a couple videos showing it. I'll try to make a short one dedicated to this issue.

"Still far better than a V2?" Add in loading the app, slow handshakes, rollercoaster charging speeds, moving the truck, then repeat. I'm not convinced that is way faster. I'm always surprised with my Tesla's how little difference 250kW makes to 150kW, maybe like 5 minutes faster because of the charging curves. Obviously a reliable 350kW is better than power-sharing at 71kW but reliable & EA don't belong in the same sentence. I'm sticking with good ole' reliable Superchargers that i can plug in & walk away.

A Cybertruck road trip without talking at all about what sets CT apart from the other trucks in so many ways is troubling. Because there are huge things. Steer by wire. Smooth car feel rather than a truck feel. Sound system. 4 wheel steer. How are those views that we both love so much out of the CT vs other trucks? And on and on, but you’re silent. This is a charging video, not a CT video. And get some RainX at any auto parts store ffs.

I find it crazy that people swear EV's are cheaper to operate but here in NJ, it would basically cost $.10mile charging at home or $.20mile DC fast charging. You can drive a gas truck for $.23mi.. I would still own a cybertruck but definitely not any real cost savings. Especially if you add in that cost of running cable and a home charger

It's a lot better than it used to be. It wasn't that long ago when a CCS car couldn't even travel I-80 in Wyoming at all. Now, all that's needed is some redundancy/competition so that EA can't act like a lazy monopolist. According to PlugShare, there's some Pilot Flying J sites marked as "coming soon" which should do the trick once they finally open. That said, I don't see myself driving the I-80 corridor in Wyoming anytime soon, if ever, regardless of car type, as just about any trip one could reasonably use it for is likely to be doable much more quickly flying in an airplane.
