What if Son of Beast was still thrilling riders today with its rough ride? It's no doubt that RMC would've taken on the project, and could we possibly have seen two hyper-hybrids in the state of Ohio? Would Cedar Fair have spent the money to create two steel beasts just a few hours from each other at Kings Island and Cedar Point? #RMC #SonOfBeast #KingsIsland
This was a tough one to create. A Son of Beast transformation would be so different from anything RMC has ever done, the coaster had a speed so high and with turns and layout that is so drawn-out, there are some definite new elements on the ride that haven't been done on other rides. RMC would have to be really creative with the long transitions that existed on Son of Beast.
RMC's very closely follow the previous height and layout of rides, so for this creation, we took a map overlay and used very similar heights to what the Son of Beast used to offer. This is mostly because subtracting height from a structure is easy, but adding to it get's costly. So there are definite moments where the track is much lower than what Son of Beast's layout used to offer.
We also think RMC may have rebuilt the famous loop to pay homage to the original Son of Beast. It would be their first straight loop on one of their rides.
The marketing potential would've been huge for Cedar Fair, to open Steel Vengeance one year and then top it a couple years later with the Son of Beast.
Son of Beast had a long length with its large helicies, which made it a much different ride than Mean Streak / Steel Vengeance. Because of the helicies removals, we don't think RMC would've used an MCBR (Mid Course Brake Run) on this ride, there is no need for it as the ride is complete once the next train reaches the top of the lift hill (So the lift technically acts as an MCBR) because of the longer pre-lift; the length is much shorter than SV. It has a very high speed and a height that would've beat Steel Vengeance, but unless they added their own sections or kept the helix (unlikely), the ride is quite short time-wise because of the high speed the coaster travels through the course at.
