Love the experimentation. Consider placing similar sized plants into the containers once they're about 2" tall. Grow several outside the container first then select two. The reason is because I've grown lots of lettuce and while they're usually similar in the same environment, they're not always. IOW, you could have gotten a puny plant in the RO. Always watching and enjoy this very much. I do some of it myself.

Great channel...I'm in Northeast Ohio as well with Lake Erie water. You mentioned your water was soft? Wow, mine is like a brick!
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 3 года назад
140ppm is considered on the soft side. The lake water tests the same as my tap.

@@GrowingAnswers I thought water hardness was tested by ph? My ph out of the tap is almost 7.8.
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 3 года назад
@@JM-gs5jn need a tds meter. Ph just speaks to bicarbonates. 7.8 is not abnormal out of the tap. The ph will naturally lower over a few days after it off-gases from being under pressure and then absorbs co2 from the air.

OMG AWESOME EXPERIMENT!!! nice video, greetings from germanyin europe there are two types of flora micro (hard water and soft water) What is your EC level of tap water (what conversion are you using? 700 or 500) you should use ec instead of tds imho what does you water company tell you about the minerals in the water? mine is high in calcium, which should be good mixes with flora hard water but its not good

Awesome video! I tried growing microgreens with my tap water but after a week or so the leaves start decaying and it just looks horrible. Our tap water measures 450 uS/cm and therefore I can barely add nutrients before the 'ideal' EC is reached. I've been harvesting rainwater and that is going great so far. Hoping to install a reverse osmosis system soon.

So my theory is that RO water is basically pure water and may like to hold a certain amount of ppm before letting nutrients become available to the plants. My suggestion would be to add extra nutrients to the RO to make both buckets equal in ppm.

Your tap water has a relatively low ppm, RO are used mostly when your ppm’s are 250 and above. We actually buffer our RO water back up to around 150ppms,
@moongloomable

What do you use to buffer it back to 150ppm? Thanks

The plant grown in tap water got more calcium and probably some micro nutrients as well, The RO water has been stripped of nutrients.

I'm so pissed. My landlord has complained about the water bill for the third time. I have not benefited from using RO/DI water. I have only kicked my landlord in the balls because he pays the water bill since the water source is shared with the downstairs apartment.

There can be a great variation in lettuce. Like anything grown from seed each plant is not identical. You can see by the harvest weights in this test I did with lettuce all from the same seed pack. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T1weuCHUaYk.html

nebulaM16 3ft not 3 meter. Because of the coverage and amount of light it puts out. I’ve only been using it in its dimmest setting in 3x3.

Rain water and mud mate, don't use either of these water types, one has chemicals galore and the other is almost its opposite, rain water and mud, get a water butt. Lettuce grows naturally not in a lab environment.
