The San Gabriel Valley is rich with the fruits of its hometown heroes! Its multi-cultural roots makes the San Gabriel Valley a geographical and social archetype of Southern California. Today, Road Scholar Dylan Littlefield explores the influences of heroes of the African American community.
Road Scholar Dylan Littlefield pays tribute to 2 champions in history. In honor of Black History Month, the Road Scholar shares the story of Owen Brown, a staunchly anti-slavery activist, who came to Altadena after many of his family members were executed by the government for their anti-slavery advocacy. Then, the Road Scholar meets with an Alhambra City Council member who shares her memories of Los Angeles Rams superstar Duane Allen. Utilizing his skills on the gridiron and his celebrity status, Allen created a legacy of service and support for the youth in his community.
