i was gonna say the same thing. i watched it in the 90's, i could hear his voice when i clicked the link but didn't think it would actually be him. it was comforting.
Nick Dovie That might have been a problem in the '80s but in 2016, with RU-vid and a host of other video sites, I am pretty sure you can find a video with audio of the car's acceleration.
Usually when car makers tack "sport" onto the name of a family sedan or economy car, it just means some stripes and maybe bigger wheels at most. Ford actually meant it this time, though. Pretty impressive performance for such a common family car.
This car is a joy to own, with effortless pull from a stop and amazing driving dynamics. I am waiting for a CAI and aftermarket exhaust to get even greater results out of it.
A 13.9 quarter mile time at 99 mph is fairly pedestrian in the higher performance segment. But motorweek's times are always a little slower than say motor trend, and they tested it on regular gas whereas the 380 foot pounds of torque is specifically with 93 octane. Regardless, I bought one of these a few days ago, ( huge $7,000 rebate to start, and the selling price ended up being 72.2% of the MSRP) and I absolutely love it. There's so much torque you just don't care what gear your in, the car moves regardless. I like that deep torquey feeling more than I care about quarter mile times, but I'm guessing it is capable of more like 13.6 or .7 with the higher octane gas.
animal16365 It basically takes the place where the Taurus SHO used to hold, a sporty midsize sedan. The current Taurus has morphed into the full size sedan segment.
Doesn't work. I lost 2 front tires on my Fusion Sport due to potholes. If you watch that segment closely and freeze frame when the tire impacts the edge of the pothole, you can see how much sidewall deflection there is. The 235/40R19 tires are woefully undersized for this 4120 lb sedan - the equivalent weight of a 1998-2002 Crown Victoria (which came with 225/60R16 tires). That ping pong ball clip came from Ford's own media release where they tested the car in the Ford Credit parking lot in Dearborn. My girlfriend worked there and said they filled that pothole with filler to decrease the depth of the pothole.
@@fusionvic That's true, you might feel smooth while running into potholes but the tires are the ones that get damaged because it is just a ''normal'' tire
A tune and full exhaust work magic on one of these, you can easily get into the 400-420hp range with just those things. It'll knock a second of that 0-60.
I had no idea they had this engine as an option for the Fusion. My neighbor down the road has a similar looking one and its very sharp. I always compliment him on it. Nice job Ford.
My regret is that they have no V8 Coyote engine option for the vehicle, as that would be a nice little sleeper sedan, like the 2013 Chevrolet Impala SS, or the 2014 Chevrolet SS/Holden Commodore.
The wife and I bought one of these yesterday and we love it. We test drove a titanium with all the bells and whistles and the 2.0 ecoboost. Our sport is a base model with no nav and no touchscreen and the standard instrument cluster. We really dont need all the fancy shit. However, that 2.7 ecoboost had both of us smiling ear to ear on the test drive. Very very quick off the line. Id love to throw some catless down pipes and a tune on it to really see what it'd do
I recall my 1987 GrandNational had the same quarter mile time, AND trap speed. Sometimes progress is good. This one has four wheel drive, MUCH better handling and looks great also. Of course, if you ARE a hot rodder you have a smaller engine to build up in the Fusion. Still, a great ride.
When running the car on the test track please pump up the audio value so we can hear the engine. Lower the volume on the voiceover and get rid of any tacky sound effects that ruin the experience. You guys used to do this with your old reviews & what makes them entertaining to watch even after decades is that we could hear the cars operating as if you were really there.
Wish Ford would make a 2 door version of the Fusion to make it look and feel like a Personal car i would totally Consider it if i can get a 2 door version on it.
Premium fuel will get you into the 4s to 60 and mid 13s quarter. You get the same torque on regular fuel but horsepower really dials back using regular when premium is recommended. Here in california it only makes 300hp because we dont have 93 octane gas
These will be classics one day. Ford does a great job with just enough aftermarket parts and upgrades to allow the younger kids to pick these up for cheap and customize them enough to make them their own.
we are getting mid 4s 0-60 12 second quarters on this car as a casual commuter in 2023 😂 If you own this car tunning, it changes everything. Stock is sport mode transmission behavior, and sport mode behavior is the Fusion ST.
people hate on it so much because it doesn't feel like a s4 or s5 and its a Ford.. I love the fact that I can keep up or even pass up something like a TLX A spec or v6 panamera.. I looked at the other reviews from other journalist and they were trying to compare it to a Subaru Legacy LOL..
I wouldn't say they "ditched" the Aston Martin Grille all together. More like, gave it more aggression and less elegance. Take away the chrome and it reminds me a BIT of the Virage Vantage from the 90's, just before Ford's outright takeover.
I got t-boned at about 65 mph and sent spinning over a curb and back onto the lane of travel without flipping, in my 2010 Taurus SHO. I feel like I can trust the Taurus in an accident now. But I can't find a decent SHO with less than 50k miles and was thinking about getting this car instead. I'm not sure if this would be comparable or not. Also, the SHO was a great sleeper. There were only a few cars, mostly high-line European cars, that could even keep up with me on the highway. Curious if this car is worth looking at.
I've already gone down to my local Ford dealer to look at one. (Even test drove an SHO) Problems are, with a few options, these Fusion Sports top $40k easy. Also it's a Fusion...a car that Ford pumps out nearly 300k units a year in all sorts of guises and a lot of fleets/rentals. It doesn't look all that different to other trim levels either. So Sport version or not, resale will be terrible. Not a fan of that instrument panel either. Give me some actual gauges, Ford, not just a tacky small digital tachometer. IMO, I'm willing to give up 2 seconds 0-60 and get a Mazda 6 Grand Touring. Arguably the best looking mid size sedan out there that still combines fun to drive, reliability, safety, and well over 30mpg while not being dime a dozen.
Bingo. You spotted the #1 problem with buying a fusion. RESALE. There's too many of them out there as rentals so many people are upside down on loans quickly.
I bet the Mustang is more likely to live to see 200K miles than an overly boosted 6 cylinder that is so crammed in there, that it's a disassembly job just to change the headlight bulb. Displacement has it's advantages- more comfortable laying down the power over the years.
My dream car is a 60’s gt mustang, I have a 2010 fusion right now, and I was looking at one of these for my next car. And I’m honestly kinda excited to try to race some of the mustangs around my town 😂😂
I've always been a Honda fan and last year instead of picking up an accord I purchased a 2.0 ecoboost fusion. And although the new sport model is amazing, I'm going to trade in my fusion for an sho taurus
That version of the EB'd 3.5L is longitudinal. The most gotten on FWD-based AWD apps is the 365 / 350 version from the larger latest Taurus SHO, so I'd figure it's a fitting of the engine (to give a proper factory warranty) issue...
Escape for Mankind is Keith Johnson Oh there's a market, my 2015 Mustang is a 6 speed, true enthusiasts will opt for the manual ..more likely is people aren't coordinated enough to shift anymore.
Tool0GT92 best hope is that this sells in Europe, I believe they still sell the Mondeo with a stick shift, manual's are still very popular there for some reason.
Motor Week has been forever notorious for yielding poor 1/4 mile times. Car and driver got a 13.7 out of one and with a livernois tune these cars are seeing 12.9's. They aren't dropping a whole second from tune only. I bet these cars are realistically capable of a 13.4-5 bone stock.
I appreciate their attempts at making a quick family car, but let's take a look at the Taurus SHO for a second. The SHO is supposed to be their super sedan, but its horsepower (fair though it is) could be better given the competition. Now, if Ford straight up put the same engine from their new Ford GT in there - specs and all - that would be balling.
It would be cool if Ford performance got their hands on the fusion Imagine what they could do with the fusion Maybe put that high output V6 that’s in the raptor and GT If it fits of course I think the fusion is a car that could compete with the bmw 3 series If they would simply focus it on that
Ford is coming out swinging!!! Got the Focus ST, The Fusion Sport, and the big boy Taurus SHO. I just don't get why the would make em so close performance wise to the Mustang GT.
People talk so bad about Ford. I have a Ford Fusion 2014 2.5L with 18's with the wing. I have had no issues and the gas mileage is amazing. I've really enjoyed the car. Sync irritates me sometimes. I won't be getting another Ford though. Maxima has won me over. Can't wait to pay off this car.
Turn dial transmission shift...how about a single Nintendo joystick to steer? That dial shift totally takes away any sport of this car no matter how many sport badges you put on it. I'll keep my 2013 or opt for another brand.
There's always a market for manuals. Many cars are still manual only with no auto option. Just because many millennial snowflakes aren't learning to drive manuals doesn't mean there isn't a market for them.
The 2.7 in the fusion sport is fairly more reliable than the 3.5 in the SHO. and they basically share the same performance. And the fusion sport has MUCH better suspension.
I am looking for a sedan for my wife, she currently owns a 2005 ford focus se 4-dr. I know she likes the ford fusion body style, but to me this 2017 Ford Fusion Sport looks like a Baby Ford Taurus SHO which I also like!...Well we'll see!...God Bless
When I heard that I said "Oh yeah makes sense, the taurus only sold like 3,000 models for 2019" But then when I heard they were discounting the fusion and focus also, It made me bawl my eyes out. the fusion was awesome! 😭😭😭
They should have put this 2.7 V6 Ecoboost in the Mustang as the base model. Why Ford continues to offer a 4 cylinder and has over the years in the Mustang has always baffled me. Nobody buy's a Mustang for the gas mileage and the 2.7 V6 Ecoboost sounds better and has more Torque and narrows the gap in power when compared to the 5.0
Escape for Mankind is Keith Johnson last I checked, those were both much better cars than the fusion. Resale value, reliability... you know, things that actually matter. A fusion is something you see enterprise renting out. Not a car for the masses.
Escape for Mankind is Keith Johnson the weight needs to go down because it's hurting the fusions performance. the Camry and accord v6 are just as quick as the fusion with less horse power because they weigh less. Its probably the heaviest car in its class. one of my friends has a 2016 accord and there is nothing tin can about that car . I do applaud Ford for there efforts though.
Nobody does all-wheel drive like Subaru reliability like Toyota reliability and fun-to-drive ability like Honda... people might make fun of the Honda Civic but likely they'll still be driving the car when 2ook rolls around with little breakdowns of any significance. But the Fusion was the best car Ford ever made and why their axing it is unclear... Ppl will go Honda
my 2014 2.0 t. has 157000 on it.. runs perfectly// syn oil change every 5/6000 miles every other oil change i change 4 quarts of trans oil and replace it and ovs.. my valves are clean
