You may make things a little easier by wetting the fiber first?. Just a suggestion . It's the way we do it at the boatyard. Also kind of surprised that you guys have not tried petroleum jelly as a release agent. More lessons from the boatyard.

@Scale Builder's Guild I somewhat agree with him. For more detail. Lay newspapers taped down beside your work area. Then pour some Resin on paper. Squeegee it out with a bondo spreader . Lay your cloth down poor little more resin. Squeegee the resin until you get a nice even coat . Then pull it up and set it in mold work it around with your brush. Also brush light coat of resin in mold first .

Wow that print pen trick is nice. It reminds me of automobile bumper repair. If you get S shaped elements on a small induction gun/pen, you could melt those two part together before filling up. Also I think that while the pla is still hot you could easily use a small tool to smooth it out right away for less sanding

I don't have the funds for 3D printing, yet, but there is a relatively cheap process that can serve the purpose of filling body lines or cracks. I actually saw this on the "EVERARD JUNCTION" channel. If you have done any sanding - save the dust and mix it with gel super glue. It works like bondo for full size vehicles. It cures hard as a rock and can be sanded. If you are careful there's no pin holes and the color will match the panel you are reparing. I've used this and been able to forgo finish painting. Just sanded down to 3000 grit and done. At least for bodies that had a weathered appearance

I use 3D printing for truck interiors and have a little tip you may like for seating. Once you’ve 3D printed your seat and you have a figure that you’d like to sit in it you can mark around the figure on the seat. Then heat up the area where the figure is going sit with be of those blue flame burner lighters. Use enough heat to soften the whole are where the figure will sit. Try to even heat the whole area, you’ll see the PLA go glossy. To much and it will begin to strand, you don’t want that. Once it’s all soft sit your figure on the heated seat and push down and hold it in place in its driving position. It will take 1-2 mins for it to cool. Lift the figure out. You’ll then have the seat contoured to the figure, this works really will with those bench seats you find in trucks. It looks way more scale as the figure has sunken into the seat. Then just paint it to your liking. I hope that helps someone :)

I suggest really really roughing up the plastic b4 applying the carbon cloth. The resin doesnt adhere very well to smooth plastic. I did this to some flat fenders on a NB JK and even with super scuffing over time tried to lift. You may remember the rig from the 2013 east coast scale challenge. You were my judge on one of the C2 courses. You pointed out my steering angle on a particular part of the course where others struggled. Good times that.😅

I know im late to the party on this video... But an even better way to fill AND glue/weld the 3D printed parts together and fill in the gaps is to use a variable temp soldering iron and filament. Dont use CA glue. Just line up your parts, hold them in place with tape, and tack them together with a knife blade style soldering tip. Then go back and fill in both sides of the joint with filament. You're essentially welding the 2 pieces together to become one.. no more worrying about the body being fragile. No need to reinforce with carbon fibre. The joint actually become stronger than the rest of the printed body.
@scalebuildersguild

The lowered F-150 hurts my eyes. 3D printing my first body now I think the issue is you really need a good model I bought my model as I didn't have time before the competition season started to get it modeled and printed still going to run out of time as my competition this weekend and I'm not quite ready.
