Take a ride down Interstate 77 south from Charlotte NC to the SC border, then back up through town as it makes its way up to Interstate 485. Video includes footage from a different type of ride found nearby. Music: "Liberation 2010" by Satin Jackets.

planning on moving here soon but in Mooresville NC. I'm coming from Detroit MI, & I must just by watching this video the {roads} here are so... smooth omg can't wait to GO..!

Nice, informative video. It’s familiar territory, practically in my back yard. The 77/485 interchange on the south side of Charlotte becomes a disaster during snow/ice storms.

I-77 Definitely needs widening, but the DOT division Charlotte's in chose to go all out with I-485 and I-85 widenings. For a whole decade Charlotte got most of the new construction projects. NC's population of 10.5 million is spread across all 100 counties and NCDOT tries to be fair & give all citizens something in return for a lifetime of paying gas taxes. McCrory improved how funds are allocated by scoring the benefits to a region with each project. Sadly, Raleigh is often the area that goes without needed maintenance, however many construction projects are underway in Wake Co. They need to find a way to widen I-77 now. It is a priority. NCDOT has a tough job spreading resources so thinly for needs across the whole state.

Drive On! The fury ain’t no joke either. Went on that thing a couple years ago and just going up the first grade had me ready to 💩 myself cause it goes up kinda fast rather than the usual slow gradual climb.

The "Charlotte Criss-Cross" is not unique; in fact, it's a clone. The Essex Stack in Maryland (Interstates 95 and 695) used to have a similar cross-cross (two of them, actually); Interstates 95 and 695 both swapped sides; now, only Interstate 695 does. In terstate 5 in California has a similar criss-cross.

Russo Dario It's actually very congested during rush hour, plus going though the heart of the city I can see why the speed limit is what it is.

These urban highways are narrow and congested built in the 50's with no intention of Charlotte ever becoming what it is hence the low speed limit. If you drove on I-485 the new ring loop around Charlotte it is 70mph (110kmh). But hey it is the United States and NOBODY does the speed limit.

It’s in the middle of an urban area and if you’ve ever driven on 77 in Charlotte with the construction and congestion, it’s not really conducive to high speeds. Just too much going on there. The road is also too narrow because back when it was built Charlotte hadn’t blown up to the levels it has today.
