Yes, construction was the reason for the lane reduction. Two lanes usually carry you onto I-85. And I-85 Business used to be the mainline for I-85. I-85 was re-routed north of town in the early 90's to alleviate traffic issues at some of the exits. This was its first major rehab since that rerouting.
