"Independent America" follows journalists Hanson Hosein and his wife, Heather Hughes, as they hit the road and travel 13 thousand miles through 32 states in search of Independent America. They do it all while abiding by two simple rules of the road: 1) No Interstates: They can only travel on secondary highways and country roads 2) They can only do business with Mom & Pop. No McDonalds, No Best Westerns. No Wal-Marts.

That "big is better" is just a marketing ploy for the rich and wealthy investment class to own everything in the USA. Wake up people, there is a cost to pay, it was the local business that supported all the services a community needs to thrive.

Good documentary which was probably made around 2005. It's dated. However, it would be interesting to have the same couple do a new one in the same towns to see how they have fared 16 years on. I checked and most of the Mom and Pop businesses mentioned are still, thankfully, in business. How have these towns fared during the PLANdemic which was purposely ushered in to crash local economies and destroy Mom and Pop stores.

Too bad you’re about 20 years late for the story

After recently traveling to a remote Northern California town, I have a few observations. Starbucks - there was only 1 in the entire area. My gf loves their sweet sugary drinks. So we tried a few local coffee stores, which were drive throughs. The store offered more choices and flavors than the aforementioned behemoth and they were great. They had people waiting at the drive through to take your order. I drink sugar free drinks and they had more sugar free flavors than you would ever get with a Starbucks and the person answered my questions and made a custom order, for about the same price as Starbucks. They also had a Whole Foods type store that I though might be a subsidiary of WF (but they weren’t). A huge Co-op was nearby and they had a similar stock as WF or some of the natural or organic stores. The town had a Walmart and a Kohls and a mall. Pizza - local - we had the best ever! They had a few of the big chains but not many. They didn’t have the traffic or congestion od larger towns either. One other thing to consider which this video doesn’t address that much is China. It is nearly impossible to find something not made in China in the large metropolitan area we live in. Even Dollar Tree has food from China (which I would never eat. Going to the Big Box stores not only supports corporate America but helps fund one of the most destructive countries and repressive regimes in history that seeks the destruction of the US and world domination. So, when you go ‘big box’, you are not only supporting a huge corporate monopoly, but you are funding the China which seeks to undermine and destroy our way of life.

Starbucks now has around 15000 stores in the US. "It says 7000+1300 by 2007."

This is exactly what has been happening in Latin America since NAFTA was passed in the 1990's hence the mass migration north today.

These people dont understand what true entrepreneurship is all about because true entrepreneurship like Starbucks and Walmart is all about "creative destruction" according to Joseph Schumpeter. These people dont want change but rather get stuck into nostalgia to feel good and stay in the past. These communities are so selfish that their mom and pop stores should stay alive because they dont want to improve like what the corporate retailers are doing for a better customer service and increasing employment and pay. Remember Starbucks and Walmart are former mom and pop stores but have the tendency to improve and grow. They embrace change unlike these traditional mom and pop stores that hate change.
