I used to make the trip from SF to Portland several times a year. 5 hours into the 9 hour trip, I was completely dead and hurting even in my Infiniti. Now that I have a Tesla, I take the 12-hour trip from my current home to Houston, TX, and I'm not even tired.It's truly a new way to drive.

Very informative Drew. Appreciate all the EV content you share. The drive you did is one I plan on tackling this summer, hopefully with my Tesla. I used to be a road trip fiend, only stopping just for gas refills, but ever since having kids, its not that big of a deal to take somewhat often stops and getting a nice quick charge at the same time will be super convenient. Makes me really consider the base Model Y instead of the long range.

Great video Drew!! It was awesome to see your wife as well. I appreciated the technical perspective you observed when charging up your Tesla. I don't know if you have time for this, but are there Tesla dealerships around? Or other EV dealerships in your parent's hometown? I live in Portland and its great to actually see the Tesla charging stations in other parts of Oregon. As I often only see Electrify America. I'm on the fence of owning a Tesla, I reserved an Aptera and let go of my car in 2015 to be a more responsible citizen. I don't need 2 cars and the Aptera is more of what I want out of vehicle. I do realize I may not receive it for another 2 years. So I'm saving money to pay for the car all at once. Living in the city offers more easier transportation choices. I live close to public transportation and bike routes and it saves me so much money. But there are times where I wish I still had a vehicle instead of renting a car when needed. Seeing the Tesla in real world use is important and helps me understand and manage expectations. I hear the usual gripes and unsupported problems with EVs or Tesla. I appreciate your discussion about miles/kw hours and your decision making process of not completely relying on Telsas automated suggestions on when to charge up again. I would very much like a video for the road trip back. I wish you and your family well!

Thanks for this video! Presently, I'm contemplating on getting the Tesla Model 3 RWD or the Model Y LR. Ideally, I want the Model Y because I live in Toronto, Canada, and the winter here can be brutal, sometimes. However, the price difference between the two said vehicles, in Canada, is $15K CAD, and I just can't justify paying $15 K more, so I'm leaning towards the Model 3 RWD. From your videos, it seems like the Model 3 RWD is a decent drive and can facilitate all my needs. I would love to hear your perspective on choosing it over the Model Y

I have a MYP and will never want to road trip any other vehicle. Why the hell would I want to drive a car that has no driver assist features? I drove 32 hours out of 36 hours on a road trip from WI to AZ. Never felt tired or worn out. Love how you can take in your surroundings as you’re driving and not focus on having to stay dead in the middle of the lane. It’s also nice how you are forced to take a break every 2-3 hours. Let’s you and your passengers stretch your legs, go to the bathroom and grab a snack. When you’re traveling with more than just yourself, someone will have to stop and go to the bathroom every 2-3 hours anyways.

You are doing roadtrips wrong. 😉 If you like to arrive with a low charge - 15% is NOT low. I just did 2000 km in 20:25. With 5 persons in MYLR. 1) aim to arrive with 2-3% at each charger. 2) charge 15-18 minutes to around 50 - 70%, depending on distance to next 250kw sc. 3) leave sc when next sc has 5% estimated and drive fast to reach 2%. 4) I also plan 1 or 2 longer stops (35 min) so we have time to pick up fastfood to eat in the car.
@JensPilemandOttesen
@JensPilemandOttesen Год назад
@@TailosiveEVyou can pick the charger you want on the map. Add waypoint. When Pearl adds an xtra charging stop, you click "remove all charge stops" on the itinerary. And it will route to the sc you chose and show expected arrival charge. Once it reaches 5%: you leave! Ofcourse, there has to be chargers there! But this will also work with non-tesla chargers... so more choice.
