Yeah, this or Hail the Apocalypse are very solid first listens. One heck of a band, man.

My first Avatar song was “Let It Burn”. It came on randomly on Spotify one day and I’ve been hooked since. “Hail the Apocalypse”, “The Eagle Has Landed”, “...Avatar Country” and a to. of other songs are great introductory songs that all have different sounds.

The vocalist, Johannes, has such great stage presence. He's actually a shy dude off stage, but once he gets on stage, he controls the crowd. Their shows are always great fun. I didn't really like Avatar until I saw them live. I love when a band really put on a show and don't just play through their setlist. I mean, unless it's one of your favorite bands, you won't watch a band that just play through their setlist more than once. Avatar has lots of great songs. The Eagle has Landed is their hit-song and you'll never go wrong with that. Hail the Apocalypse, Let it Burn, Smells like a Freakshow and A Statue of the King are also great songs to go to next.

Smells like a freak show is one of the greatest. But every song on every album is good to it's own degree.

Yes. MORE Avatar! So much more. You need to hear the album version of this song. But yeah, these guys are a collective exceptional talent

Like I said in the chat, Avatar is one of the best live bands at the moment (at least in my opinion). If you want an even heavier song, try "Hail the Apocalypse" live from Wacken. For a somewhat different song try "Puppet Show" from the same festival like "Bloody Angel" (it even has a solo with an instrument I bet you won't guess in advance ;))

After listening to them for what seems like an age I finally saw Avatar live on Sunday. What a show beyond my wildest expectations. They could teach many bigger bands something about showmanship

They used to be one of my favorite band a decade ago but somehow I stop listening to their songs, I need to listen to them again.

Avatar: let it burn, live at sticky fingers. It's like the first thing that comes up when you surch the song. It is the best thing they ever did.

You might like Ghost! They're a Swedish band as well, from somewhat near Gothenburg. They make a very unique style of music - some songs remind me of very early metal or rock, others are even somewhat pop-music-ish. My personal favourite (and everyone else's, basically, because it's an amazing song) is Square Hammer, with Cirice being a close second for me.

Check out A Secret Door by avatar. Not enough reactions for it right now. It features Corey Corey Taylor whistling because they wanted to pay homage to south park having George Clooney playing a dog. Honestly one of my favorite songs by them

Everyone is recommending their live performances, and I totally understand why, they are phenomenal live, but I would throw in some of their official videos too, because they are alot of fun, clever, creative, original, well produced. I was wicked late to this party. The Grannies started building my interest in them, plus radio play of their new songs. But the clincher was the local Rock radio station gave me tickets when they came around. I knew a few songs, my wife almost nothing, but (clearly) they were SO GOOD!! Like so many commenters, I first saw them live as an opening act (for In This Moment) - they blew me away! I left a lifelong fan. Totally agree with the recs for Hail the Apocalypse live, or Paint Me Red live (both at Wacken) but if you want to try a video of theirs, I recommend The Eagle Has Landed. It’s so much fun!

They’re currently doing Avatar Ages: four individual concerts throughout January and each is based off one of the bands phases or eras. I didn’t think it would be this good because it’s through a computer, but they put so much thought into crafting each stage, changing consumes, using LED screen backgrounds and the sets are fan voted. Their showmanship is really being highlighted through all of this right now

I am so fucking happy right now :D So happy you reacted, so happy you liked it!! Unfortunatly there's no solo in Bloody angel, but they are really really good with solos too (for a music video check out silence in the age of apes from latest album, got mad good solo from both jonas and tim) apart from that, most live stuff is awsome :D (they do really nice music videos too though!) And spot on, they are so passionate about their music, and they love what they do. Everyone in the band writes songs, and then they get together and bring out the best of the song :)

Avatar shows never get old. Love every one of them. They are the only band that makes concept albums that I enjoy. Super creative. And killer musicians.

One of the best live performances you'll ever experience. Interesting observation on the stage setup -- their lighting & gear is some of the best I've seen for a metal band of this caliber.

I saw them with Babymetal when they came through Phoenix last October. They do put on a great show. It is such a shame that these great band get put on really tiny stages. I mean they absolutely killed it on the stage but I bet they would have had more freedom with a bit more stage to move around.

I remember seeing Avatar open for BabyMetal not too long ago. I had always know of them but never listened to them. They blew me and everybody else away at that show and we were all super hyped during their show.

Avatar rocks, great video. My favorite song by them is Let It Burn! Also, I would give the advice not to worry about your judgement earlier in life. Our time is limited. We can't watch every movie or show, play every game, hear every song. Making snap thoughts and judgements only makes you human. We all do it. We need reasons not to try and taste absolutely everything, because that's impossible, and trying to do so would drive you insane.

They are insanely awesome live! The band rules 100% on live presence! Only thing to avatar is their vocals from Johannes is abit underwhelmimg vs the rest of the band live. If you listen to the studio version of it, he have more harmony in his voice. Seen few different shows and had the same feeling. But the band brings it all back up. But i have allso seen him have better performance live. But 100% worth the time! 🤘 small details are not worth thinking over this song rules 🤘

Torn Apart is my fave from these guys, but Hail the Apocalypse is the gateway. Also, have you seen the latest release of Orbit Culture live at Knotfest? Absolute beast!

The mother of vocalist Johannes is from Gelsenkirchen (Germany) and he speaks German quite well and his interaction with the crowd at the Summerbreeze was just hilarious

Seen them with Baby Metal in Denver and it was fucking AMAZING!!!!! You could tell they take pride in their performance and precision. Check out Smells Like A Freak Show. Like you I have slowly opened my music ears. I want to say probably about 10ish years ago, but even more recently in the last year. Some bands/songs that would be great to see your reaction to: Apocalypse Orchestra - The Garden of Earthly Delights (sorta a medieval folk rock/metal) ГРАЙ - В объятиях Мары (Russian folk metal/rock. I clicked on this because RU-vid algorithms, it is a really beautiful song that I have had on repeat) Stratovarius - Dreamweaver (can also check out Destiny) Ningen Isu - Heartless Scat (Japanese hardrock, by guys that are older) Wolfheart - Everlasting Fall (has a really awesome intro) I would highly recommend the first 4 listed, you will enjoy them, I might be the only one suggesting them, especially Apocalypse Orchestra, but they aren't really groups that you would probably ever hear of. Another song to just go listen to. It is power metal, based on Scrooge (the lead singer also plays guitar in Sabaton) They have a whole album based on Scrooge. lol Anyways, just listen to it, doesn't really need to be a reaction Majestica - Ghost of Marley

I just saw that somebody reuploaded the Live Show from Wacken 2015 in one Video. Still Start with the opening Hail to the Apokalypse however all Songs are Just perfect. So much energy and the guitars... greetings from Germany.👍👍👍

AVATAR - Let it Burn, Napalm, Hail the Apocalypse, Colossus, Wormhole,.....the list goes on. I recommend doing a mix of both live and studio versions so you can see the similarities between both.

You can't go wrong with Avatar. Every song is great, but yeah.. Let It Burn live from Sticky Fingers (witch I attended, awesome show) or maybe Torn Apart, Smells Like A Freakshow or Puppet Show. Live or music video, it's all show every time!

You should check Torn Apart (the official music video because it's filmed and played/song backwards in order to make it) If you want something heavier... Smells like a Freakshow is one of their most famous songs as well as Bloody Angel. If you want something more mellow, there's also The Eagle Has Landed. :-) Glad you liked it! Avatar is amazing!

Johannes's vocals became super weird lately and I don't know if it is because of boredom of vocals themselves. I advise you watch live footages from like 2014-18 years, they're the best in terms of vocals in my mind at least. Plus check out the album version for sure. For further suggestions I would say: Hail the Apocalypse and Let It Burn (it has an old official live video I highly recommend).

Bro, this song is deep as fuck. You should DEFINITELY watch the music video and have the lyrics on hand for it. Not necessarily as a reaction (though it could work for that as well, just not a lot of gear showing). The story telling is ON POINT (but also very dark)!

So one of the things I really like about this channel is the pop up vid, erm, Tank Facts because they can make something which, perhaps, one might hope to never be forced to endure again a Lot more bearable. Those guitars are beautiful.

Not a very recommended song, check out Black Waltz. It’s the song that actually gave them the “Circus” image. Johannes dressed as a Jester for that music video and it just felt right. That’s how they found their style. It’s also a killer song. This is my favorite band of all time, so I’m a bit biased. It’s all good.

Saw these guys in Houston when they opened for FFDP. My initial reaction was the same as yours. Thought they were going to be a joke, then they started playing. They made a fan for life that night. Hail the Apocalypse or Smells like a Freak Show should be next.

hell yeah man! Avatar is incredible, and I made the same mistake as you - I could have seen them 2-3 years before I did as they were at a festival I went to, but too early in the day so I skipped it. Then 2017 I saw them at Chicago Open Air and fell INSTANTLY IN LOVE. Then I kicked the shit out of myself for not seeing them earlier, but luckily I've seen them 3 times since. I wish they were huge - I hope they will be in the next few years.

Cool to see you be conscious about your views and trying to change them :) Avatar, or dvdtdr as they get jokingly called from time to time(In their logo they use the Cyrillic letter "D" as an "A"), have a quite broad range of songs, often already wildly differing within one album :) Their oldest album that is already in this style, is their self-titled one. Would be maybe cool to do a song off of that one too sometime. "Reload" would have to be my suggestion for that one. Next up are the albums "black waltz" and "hail the apocalypse", respectively. These albums both are génerally the "darker" ones, and are what I got hooked on at first. For black Waltz I'd háve to pick "Smells like a freakshow" as a favourite, and for hail the apocalypse that'd have to be "Hail the apocalypse", my all time favourite, and the song that introduced me to this band. Then they released "Feathers and flesh", a concept album, based on a fable they wrote for it, in which they tried to invert a lot of concepts: for example the owl in the story is not quite the brightest.. Favourite song: "Ravenwine", but "The eagle has landed" seems to be the crowd-favourite. Next up, their album "Avatar Country": another, very different concept album, which is about "avatar country", a fictional metalhead country. As a "waiting tune" at their concerts they even had "avatar country radio", with news about ex-metalheads being hired in mining companies to headbang their way through mountains, as to bring back the good old days for the veterans. Favourite song: "King's harvest", a nice heavy chonker. The last album "Hunter Gatherer" is, as I understand it, a sort of creative outlet from the concept albums, that had stories to follow, so somewhat restricted what they could write about. It has a lot of very different songs, and to me is quite the masterpiece. I really like "wormhole" from that one, though if you decide you want to feel way too many things and contemplate life, "Gun" is also amazing, is a slow song though. Generally, the live videos show more of avatar, but later on, some of the music videos are also very cool. Cheers!

Avatar is great, if you want ripping guitar solos “Regret/House of the Eternal Hunt”, “Eagle has landed”, if you check out the newest album “When all but force has failed” is the best one imo older stuff besides what was mentioned “Ready for the Ride” “The Black Waltz” etc

Avatar has very wellproduced videos. Bloody Angel tells quite the story... I'd watch both, the songs with musicvideos adds to the experience :)

I've seen some spectacular shows - Maiden, Rammstein, TSO etc. I've never had more fun or been more entertained than by Avatar in Toronto a couple of nights ago.

Just a thought...have you checked out Týr? Awesome band from Faroe Islands. "Regin Smidur" is a good place to start for them.
