100% agree with you on the vocal mix! Lead vocals need some saturation and some highs to get them to cut through. Synths are too hot and it needs more drums and guitars in the mix.
I couldn't listen to NW pre Floor, due to my ear issues. Finally, i find NW with Floor's great tone for my ears, and they bury her voice into the past. I'm disappointed too.
You should just film your meeting with Unleash the Archers in August, Brittany looks like she would be all for it. I think it's awesome how humble most these artist are.
Personally, I’m not a fan of slipknot and I find them as one of the bands that ruined metal it’s just my honest opinion so lease don’t give me any harassment

I love Nightwish, I don't like being negative about music and I don't enjoy negative reactions by reactors.. but you captured my thoughts exactly. This song has SO MUCH potential, but the mix is so bad its distracting.
I am a huge Nightwish fan and I am not impressed with this either. But remember their live performances really enhance the music. While the studio albums are enjoyable it is the live performances that are what is we live for.
You skirt around the obvious. It isn't to throw music it isn't because they don't care. Buy you know Nightwish tells a story, and that story is in their music. Check my second reason out. You may disagree with the reason. You may agree with the reason. Buy I'm convinced it is between DEI messaging ears abortion crime if we don't stop we will be like perfume we will evaporate. This isn't what the hopes and dreams of our ancestors were. The vocals disapate or evaporate the same way. Ever think there maybe 2 reasons for this? First they are making her vocals an instrument. Not a focal point. Reason 2 probably more to Thoumas's point. Our voices are being drowned by all the political noise. One point could be the DEI going around kids getting gender assignment surgeries. This leaves them childless. All those dreams and aspirations lost on them. So it maybe a political point being made. My opinion and as Nightwish does tell stories do you think this isn't just that?

I'm a huge Nightwish fan here, I agree completely. From what I hear it was an intentional artistic choice, but ngl, that doesn't protect it from the fact that it just sounds bad. Especially on the bridge, it's not just that certain elements are further back than they should be, it's that it's so poorly mixed on that section that it just sounds like white noise. And not in a good way (I'm a deathcore fan too).
This is just the way finnish tv and video content is made. Music penetrates your ears to pint of deaf and to hear speak you have to elevate the volume.
As I understand this was done intentionally. I think Tuomas had a vision which he tried to convey. It was just a poor choice. Don't forget that on most previous albums, Marco also worked on most of the songs. I think he was the counterbalance to Tuomas' wild artistical ideas. Now that balance is gone and this s what we get. Overall I think the song is great, but yeah the mixing is just not right.
You are right, even previouse album they started to "dim" vocals, but also distorting deep tones, makes it so flat instead expected outbursts,and interchange of intensity, they were once best at...
You are right in so many ways ... you can try to break it down on "the mix" - a lot of people already did. So much that some already pulled out another mix. But - as well as there IS only one song out I'm missing another thing: It's the Rock, the Metal ... the heavyness. Okay Nightwish was never the heaviest band around but at least they pulled out some headbangers. This here is only a "headnodder". Where is the E-guitar, the heavy drums. This is more "Metal Pink Floyd". So, there's also nothing wrong with Pink Floyd - but it can be boring sometimes. And I'm currently thinking the same about the new Nightwish album.
I agree with what was said, critically, about the mixing and mastering of this track. While I don't absolutely hate it overall, I have a strong dislike for parts of it (the pre-chorus, chorus and interlude) that could sound so much better. Those parts sound way too compressed - to the point of having no dynamics going on in the sound. I, too, expect a better product from this band. They're supposed to be the cream if the crop, and I feel this is a big let-down, to an extent, in this age where cleaner mixes are just sort of commonplace. I mean, Visions of Atlantis and Elvellon both recently released music in the same genre that sounds a lot better, mix-wise.
Theres a bunch of dynamics especially in the orchestral stuff which really cuts through when it needs to and is still heard but not over the top in the other parts. Theres way too many "symphonic" bands who just call themselves that but their symphonic elements completely disappear behind the wall of guitars etc.
@@metalpuppet5798 Dynamics doesn't equal how much variety there is in a piece of music. Dynamics in music is the variance in volume between different parts - and how different parts are supposed to vary in volume at different times. There's none of that going on in the chorus and interlude. Everything's basically at the same volume level - so you can tell it's super compressed, when they should have allowed for dynamics throughout the song.
@@TechGuy774 the orchestra (especially brass section) shining through in different parts and then going down again is ABSOLUTELY called dynamics. And the build up in the orchestral intro to the heavy stuff is perfect as well. The heavy riff section also can be considered a climax even though its not necessarily much louder. You can achieve dynamics through so much more other than volume automation. And building up and down with instrumentation is much more effective anyway. This song is very intense through and through. It doesnt need volume dynamics that bad
@@metalpuppet5798 You completely missed the point. I didn't say that there weren't changes throughout the song. The fact that a lot of things die-down during the verses is proof of that. What I was saying is everything is basically at the same volume during the chorus, and there are no dynamics there (a ton of compression going on; you can tell that). Everything stays at the same volume throughout the chorus. Zero dynamics.
@@TechGuy774 lol. And I have proven to you that dynamics are NOT just volume. Some songs like this one DO NOT NEED excessive volume dynamics. Building the arrangement up and down is dynamic enough here. And that is ABSOLUTELY happening
It's always fascinated me that Toumas can write stuff like Poet and the Pendulum and Ghost Love Score, but also put out some of the most basic, boring, and forgettable things possible.
This is everything but boring or basic. Just because it has a simple melodic structure doesnt make it boring or basic. If you want to write a catchy song, which is the number one priority, simpler is almost always better
