This is the band I have been waiting for for YEARS! Today we get out first look at The Halo Effect, featuring members of Dark Tranquility, In Flames, and also ex-members of In Flames. This song brought me back to my youth when I started discovering melodic death metal for the first time. In this video, we break down a ton of gear, talk about the history of the Gothenburg Sound, talk about how all of these band members are connected, and headbang our asses off!

You and I definitely share experiences when it comes to these guys. I also got heavily into Melodic Death Metal in my early High School years through bands like In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Soilwork, At The Gates and Arch Enemy, and these bands shepherded me into the music I love today. In Flames and Dark Tranquillity were always the two at the top of the pile for me. I bought all of their albums and carried them with me everywhere. Without these bands, I would not have found Ensiferum and started my folk metal journey, or branched out into the Finnish scene and found Children Of Bodom, Norther and Kalmah, which gave me my love of Keyboards and Keyboard solos (which lead directly into discovering my love for Melodic Power Metal). These guys had a profound impact on my life, and I could not be happier that this project exists!

You know, when Amorphis announced their new album (funnily enough named "Halo"), I immediately was like, "ok, race for best album of 22 decided, case closed". Then five days later, this monster of a song drops (and that they'd do this went completely under my radar), and I guess, case got reopened because of new evidence. This is just awesome, and while I generally prefer the finnish over the swedish bands, I might make an exception for this one. if only because Mikael Stanne just fucking slays. every. single. time.

As a Finn, Swedish and finnish metal, surely was easy to find, i was so happy to see this band and all the members. And also happy that u finally viewd this ;). I believe this came up in my suggestions and it is fucking KILLER!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song so much I have it on repeat like 10 times a day. Amazing lick and riffing. Amazing drums, bass and vocals. And now that you told me that they are going on tour with 2 amazing bands, my day can't get any better. I am soooo siked! I’m so moved by your enthusiasm❤️ Dark Tranquillity was the first melo death band I heard as a teenager and the first chance to channel all those deep, angry and sad feelings and still beeing able to see the beauty in the same music. They were and always will be THE metal band for me. They showed that there truly is beauty and skill in the darker tones too.

I'm quite late to this one but I also grew up on Melodic Death Metal but I fell off the ball for a decade or so. But this year I am on a real live Melodeath binge (especially Swedish melodeath). Started the year with a spur of the moment decision to see In Flames. Then saw Dark Tranquillity at Bloodstock Festival UK in August (a band I surprisingly never listened to growing up.) And then the year went Melodeath crazy for me. Saw these guys with Amon Amarth. Then saw Evergrey shortly after. Not Melodeath but Swedish and a fucking awesome band. Then saw Arch Enemy on tour with Behemoth. Then saw In Flames again with support from At the Gates and Orbit Culture. Then saw Amorphis with support from Dark Tranquility (again. Never really listened to them, then saw em twice in about 4 months.) It's all come flooding back to me. The joy I got growing up listening to Swedish Melodic Death Metal.

This legit made me tear up, im so fucking happy to hear this shit with so many of my favorite artists. Dark Tranquility made me abolutely love Screamo and Growl (I had been hating it for almost 10 years, then at 15 years of age i heard DT for the first time on Spotify and it opened my entire world! Peter Iwers has been with Jesper at CyHra aswell with Jake E (Former member of my alltime favorite band Amaranthe) And both of them are fucking amazing, Jesper gave me the middlefinger at their Sweden Rock debute and laughed at the same time which made my favorite Festival picture ive ever taken. And Peters restaurant is so friggin amazing that my tastebuds exploded with happines when i tried their food and beer. I dont have much to say about Danne and Niclas but i do love the music theyve made aswell. This is a true fucking SUPERGROUP!

Tank, i feel so much what you feel. The old music of In Flames, the Jesper periog, was my entire life. This rythm section, Daniel and Peter is very special. Wonderful duo. I also remember the GOTHIC EXPLORER of jesper. If i am not wrong, it was a Gibson explorer with EMG 81/60 pickups. This duo of pickups is also legendary :D

I love how there are videos and comments about: "is heavy/power metal dying?" When covid hit, all the big heavy/power metal bands got boored cause no tours they released INSANE albums and metal just grew bigger than ever before. I hate covid BECAUSE the biggest hobbie i have outside of gaming is going to concerts and festivals, but i fucking love covid because it made bands focus 100% on their music; style, production performance, and not split it to it and tours. When bands go live again (i hate that amon skips gothenburg in their coming tour) it will be completly insane!

It doesn't sound bad but obviously you didn't listen bands like Eucharist and Excretion who were not in the spotlight like In Flames, D.T or At The Gates were, but these 2 bands played a major role in the MDM Gothenburg style in the 90”s. You might wanna check them out , highly recommend it . P.S The MDM Gothenburg scene and style has diluted so much in the last 16 years that, from my own perspective, has become a more cheesy and more polished American oriented style.

I live about 40 minutes away from Gothenburg. Growing up in the Swedish metal scene was fantastic. Both melodic death metal and black metal. And also Meshuggah! This brought a smile on my face. Nostalgia deluxe. Great review as always bud! ❤️

that is not the whole truth about Anders and Mikael switch band. in flames needed a singer and mikeal put vocal on lunar strain, he never switch with anders, they ask if mikael want to join in flames to be there vocalist but he wanted to stay in DT, then anders join in flames and mikael goes from guitarist to vocalist
