I also want to start a front yard stand with what we grow in the garden. I was thinking of only having it open part time and being out there with 11am-1pm and 4pm-6pm. I currently have a firewood pallet and I’m experiencing some theft. That’s why I’m planning part time only to see how it goes. Very nice looking stand. I would stop at it.

Hi..very nice stand.. I'm thinking of building a little roadside stand as well....Question- where do you get your packaging baskets. They are nice.

how do you grow cantaloupe? Tried last summer, they got over ripe. How do you guys know when they are just right for picking?

I watch them really closely. The fleshy part of the rind will turn a different color when they are ripe and you pretty much have to pick them right then because they get overly ripe really fast.

Looks great! Do you stay with the stand all day? I would like to try my own stand unattended and have the customers pay with the honor system. There a places where this works. Nice to know you can still trust your neighbors

I do not. Now that we have our bigger one I don't stay out there either. It's right next to our house and I can see it out my office window. We really rely on the honor system. Next year when I have some of my pottery out there and soap we will probably add a camera.

Do I need a license for this? This is a cute idea for my neighborhood

It depends on where you live. Some townships/cities require a license. My land is zoned as agriculture so our stand is considered part of the Cottage Industry in Michigan, which dictates what we can sell and what we can't sell. For instance, I can sell my pickle cucumbers, but I can't pickle them myself and sell the jar of pickled pickles. I can sell home baked breads, but I can't sell infused olive oil. I would say 1. Check with the township/city rules (online usually) 2. Check your states' Cottage Industry rules.
