"Series concept: In every disaster movie, some guy bursts into the Oval Office and says, "Mr. President! There's an asteroid headed directly for the earth!" This is that guy's story."
For anybody who found this song without knowing the story behind it: it's even better than you thought. In brief, it was supposed to be an animated series but didn't get picked up or even written beyond act 1. but it's a shame if you read the summary:
"Pilot logline: Calvert, our geeky hero, meets Kayla at an astronomy lecture. She misread a flyer and thought it was an astrology talk. Her mistake will prove to be the most devastating event in the course of human history."
This song and Cuckoo makes me think of a superhero movie plot (even though it’s not lol) but anyways, obviously the villain would be singing this to their sidekick, the hero (who’s most likely trapped by now) or maybe it’s like a news broadcast that they took over and are singing it to the citizens of the city. Maybe the villain sent the asteroid by intention and the last line is the main character talking to the president, or not, just a little idea of what this could be ❤
There were actually brief notes about this (despite the musical as a whole being unfinished), which say: it's a parody of every movie (etc.) that starts with somebody coming in and saying "mr. president, there's an asteroid headed directly for the earth". According to the writers they just wanted to explore what the life of that one particular guy is like, on the rationale it must be either super boring or super interesting or maybe both.
