A lot of people talk about how "I'm Gonna Win" is like a grittier version of this, but honestly I see that one as a brighter one - this one has the perception of someone who's convinced themselves that everything is fine when it really isn't. I'm Gonna Win gives more of a feeling of "I'm a mess, but I'll put in the effort to improve," or maybe "things are a mess but we ball anyways"

I really dont feel like this is any less dark than "im gonna win" the difference is that Joe thinks he has people to help him, but they dont exsist. Rob is just saying "to hell with it, ill do it myself"

I love how the ending devolved into just smashing all the keys

Now consider: All of my Friends, Tally Hall's I'm Gonna Win, and Rob Canton's I'm Gonna Win respectively as songs for a TV show character's descent into villainy

the shift from all of my friends to i'm gonna win makes me really sad especially considering that i'm gonna win came out after the band broke up.....

This song really captures how people with mental illness feel. “We’d assist if we really did exist”. For me I cling onto imaginary people when I’m upset, I know they aren’t real but they bring comfort. And that can either make it better or worse

Honestly this song hits harder the more I think about it. Just. The whole concept of emotional repression and neglecting your own mental health and just carrying on like everything is fine. "It's all in my head, theres no room to be blue" It reminds me of a mindset a lot of those suffering from depression have and is constantly perpetrated by others around us who don't fully understand it- which is essentially the whole "your life is just fine so why are you sad when you have no reason to be? " And the way it becomes increasingly more desperate sounding and discordant as the song goes on. Like a downward mental spiral. As for the "friends" referenced, my personal interpretation is that the "friends" are actually real people, although toxic and constantly pushing the whole "it's all in your head" narrative. Until eventually he breaks this "friendship" off after realizing but the words still linger on,, basically that is to say it isn't necessarily the "friends" that are just all in his head but rather their words that have been so impactful in a negative way. Hopefully this made sense but yeah just a personal interpretation 😭 edit: sorry to be that person but I looked back at this comment after like a year and realized how many likes it's gotten?? huh 😭😭 atp it isn't really /that/ many but dang /pos

I've been creating imaginary friends for 4 years straight which really did help me to get over with my loneliness few years later and this is terrifyingly relatable

I think I've heard all the great songs from Tally Hall, and then I'm proven wrong.

I think that the song is about a man who has been recommended a therapist who helps him confront his depression. His friends (in my opinion) are real and have good intentions, but can't help, as they are not professionals, but help cheer him up if they can.

i wish i could get this on spotify- something so i can listening to it on repeat with youtube open all night. i’m working on an art piece that is based around this song, and if i switch the song, then i’ll stop pouring the energy and emotion of this song into my work and start drawing to a new song, which will make it look weird. i really like the part with the slamming on the piano at the end though, that was pretty cool :)

Listening to this after joe's recent twitter drama and most recently getting kicked out of the tally hall socials feels so much less inviting i dont wanna say it was a direct mirror of the situation or anything like he planned it but there are definitely some overlaps

How did I only just find this masterpiece

The little piano lick in the chorus is great. It's a shame this is the only version that has it like that

The first part of this song reminds me of the spirals hallways ( the Magnus Archives)

Is it just me, or does the "All... all of my friends" kinda sounds like a line an "Murders" from Hawaii: Part II ("All... for nothing at all")

I feel like this song makes much more sense and is just better with it saying "All of my friends" rather than "I'm gonna win"

thematically this and rob cantors version are different, yes, but there is a fundamental connection between the stories told. here, you see a man spiral into the dark place and tell himself all the while that the crumbling security will piece itself back together in time, i just know it, if i let people help me and reach out or do as they ask all will be fine. robs version is, in essence, a man angry at himself. angry because he let these people walk over him and believed they were his friends. But he traverses anyhow and pulls himself out of that place under peoples feet, determined hurt and slighted that he will do the stomping instead, no matter how hard he may fall.

This reminds me of how I have imaginary friends that I feel emotionally connected to

Literally all of the songs i remember hearing in amvs years ago were tally hall this whole time

I generally considered to be the person that my friends approach for help or to express their concerns, however, I sometimes wonder if I'm really useful, as some people can start going through problems I cannot understand or feel like I can understand but not give the help they need because of something that would make my advice or help invalid or even harmful for their situation, or because I don't have anything to say. It's really frustrating when you feel unable to help someone that's passing through a tough time. I feel like everyone at my surroundings are getting better at understanding people while I lag behind and I've been starting to develop this fear of being the only one at service of someone who needs urgent help because I wouldn't know how to handle the situation. I'd like to be that helpful guy for my friends again.
