I have a stock(to my knowledge) red/silver 5-speed 2003 Subaru Baja with well over 200k miles on it. It is in the shop at the moment getting a new clutch and getting an inspection. I should have it back in a day or so and I’m so excited to have it back after a month without a car. It’s my first car, and I want to turn it into a Subaru Baja from hell like yours.
Why the Baja seems ridiculous question to me. 30 years ago it was why mod an import? Because you can! A lot of people love the look of the Baja, get compliments on my stocker all the time and people asking to buy it. I modded a 92 Integra GSR to 300+WHP & Vortech Supercharger also water to air. Did wonders to the power even on a hot day.
Good to see the Baja has retained its high ground clearance, sounds like Rob actually uses the ground clearance to his advantage, if not, NEEDS that ground clearance.

I also own a 2006 Baja Turbo and love it! I have recently had some valve problems and the engine needs to pulled. I cant for the life of me figure out which engine model is installed in this Baja, or what engines are compatible for an engine swap.
Just sold my '05 Baja Turbo manual on e-Bay due to circumstances. I bought it new and owned it 15 years. It has done everything from keeping up with Miatas in the canyons to hauling Christmas trees from Home Depot. I will miss her, but life moves on. I'm a little choked up about it, though, because I get attached to things, especially the STI turbo/IC/uppipe mods, etc., oh, and the custom exhaust that lets me hear the BRV hisses and the pops and gurgles. Sigh... :(
Awesome build, Pal....you said @ 5:53-ish mark that there is nothing vehicle specific for the Baja....you mean aftermarket stuff, right? I mean, if I wanted to do performance mods to an otherwise stock Baja Turbo drivetrain with off the shelf Subaru parts(STi computer/turbo/intercooler, etc....like the Forester Guys do), I could do that fairly easily, yes? Just clarifying. I was thinking about the Forester thing, but would rather do a Baja....just not one from Hell like yours! I'm okay with 300 HP.... Thanks!
+Brennan M Have you ever driven stiff car out of tarmac? Stiffer springs would make it undrivable and no it wouldn't increase the grip. This clearly isn't a track car and has to have loads of travel at the suspension.

I mean, it's not too different than getting big HP off any other subaru with an ej255? it should be just as easy to get 400 out of a fozzy or obxt... I tuned my baja and lifted it just a little so I could offroad and pull my 20 foot popup or my boat into the mountains.

Too bad it is not a turbo body, just the sport, that would make it all the sweeter. The "BAJA" on the tail gate is outline in red. Other than the hood the only other indicator on a Baja that it is a turbo. I have a 2003 Baja turbo automatic. I want to swap an STi swap it. The mechanics I can do. The wiring is my problem. How can I use the STi engine harness to my car?

No way lmao, The Civic had a flying start, the Baja immediately caught up to the Civics speed and after the shift to what I'm guessing was 3rd, the Baja left the Civic in the dirt.
Might have to swap motors. To like an ej205 or 255/7 although that motor you have now can run stock and go and go and go and go. Its non interference, so you just have to worry about head gasket and that's it.
No worries we will! Its an 06 Baja with an 07 STI swap, built motor, bigger turbo, FMIC, more boost, STI 6 spd, sti diff etc. We are aiming for 450 awhp currently and 500 awhp with the water/meth.
Auto Mafia Racing -- Cool. Currently mines in for an IAG Closed deck & full forged bottom end. 😜 the CP Pistons in there are getting re-ringed and sent out for coating. Heads are getting new cams.... went to a Blouch 2.5XT-R. Not too big, not too small. Flatout suspension rally-x coilovers....1500 cc too feed convsion.... to handle an e85 map. If the PPG 5speed let's go after the blast plates are installed.... I'll go 6speed swap. Look for an updated video in May. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
What ECM/PCM did you have to use? I have an 05 Baja turbo with 2” front and 2.5” back lift Im having engine work to get to 400 hp. Please let me know. I bought a 05 Outback xt mt to exchange with it per Cobb…. God Bless. Baja on!!

Jason Kellogg - Agreed. The new video should be out around November. Head gasket failure at 98k on the build shown here. New build. IAG closed deck block. Heads redone with cams, and valve train. Blouch 2.5XT-R or FP Black. Haven’t decided yet. 1500cc top feed conversion. Kincaid Performance Killer Chiller to replace the AWIC heat exchanger. Cobb AP & FlexFuel system. Should be good for tickling high 500’s on corn. She’s not my daily driver anymore. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
search up mighty car mods super gramps (the baja is a Subaru legasy aka liberty with the back chopped up for a bed toss in a subi H6 with some boost that sucker will take off like a rocket by the way very nice subi would love a baja I got plenty of subi goodies to make a mad ride with one but they are very rare here ware I'm at (I have an 04 impresa WRX STi in the iconic blue with the gold wheels and to be honist it being the first car I baught new and of corse the thing being built as a rally car I thrashed it around a lot but the subi still runs like clockwork just usual maintanence baught subarus from that point on (wish they made a full size truck lol and brought the diesel boxer engine it would have been great
slow?! my old 98 legacy outback had 165hp and that was a blast. my current car(acura TL) has 225hp and the wagon was still way more fun to drive so 500hp? mind blowingly fun i bet. you watch a lot of the 1320 videos huh?
ImThinking3 - I was recovering from laryngitis. No bullshit. My voice was all screwed up and it was freezing. It was the only day Nick had to make the video. If I came off as smug, I can assure you it was definitely not my intent. I’ve had quite a few Baja owners reach out to me saying my build was the reason they bought theirs. Each time it’s a humbling experience. I’m grateful to be part of the Subaru/ Subaru Baja community.
