Yes it is striking but also shows what a brilliant actor he is. His good looks really are less noticeable in his character as Barrows because one gets lost in his role. Both lads are fine actors but Rob's character is very difficult and complex. Only in hindsight one realises this. Through all the seasons he shows a myriad of personality traits and emotions. There were times I really hated him but here he is totally loveable and charming.
This was the best interview eveeeeer, both of them are amazing but omg Rob,he is beautiful, witty, hilarous and he is carrying the interview and i must say he has such beautiful tender hands.
you know.. i HATED thomas before seeing rob james-collier in an interview. But.. good heavens! he's so charming, so funny, so handsome! I fell in love (with the actor, of course) The thing is that I don't want Thomas to die or anything else that would put him out of the show because it would take Rob away too :'/ no matter how much mess thomas is making the show, i'm thinking more of how much fun rob and allen and all the other actors are having behind the scenes x) i think i'm even beginning to understand thomas' situation and etc (credits to mr. collier) and allen.. well, there's no need to say he's a cutie with one of the funniest laughs on earth, right? i love branson (after sybil, he's my favourit character in Downton Abbey) and i love him. But i prefer to see him laugh with rob, it makes everything so much funnier!
I was there at the Apple store last year. It was FANTASTIC, those two are just adorably down to earth and very funny! At the end we got an autograph, sadly Rob had to dash off, but Allen was a gem, he even let me take a snap kissing his cheek! *Squeals* The week before was Hugh Bonneville and Joanne Froggatt, I also caught a t-shirt Hugh threw into the audience, FREE BATES! Hugh is just amazing in person. :D
Ps, when he calls them sex symbols it is delightful because they are so natural and modest. They are totally down to earth and not full of themselves like so many hollywood actors are. During a long lifetime I have seen hundreds of interviews, tele and in person and I HAVE NEVER ENJOYED ONE AS MUCH AS THIS. The audience and interviewer are splendid as well.
I get the impression that Allen is a lot more relaxed than Rob. Rob is fidgeting and babbling the whole time, very adorable and so different from Thomas' cool and composed behaviour. Allen and Rob are such amazing actors, I hope they'll have lots more scenes together.
These two are an interviewers dream. It is hardly any work as they are two wonderful communicators. They are spontaneous with quick intellects and great humour. What is so remarkable aside from good looks which don't last forever and their fine talent as actors is what wonderful personalities they have and how comfortable they are with themselves and each other. 50 years ago just their sexual innuendo and banter would have not been tolerated in the UK as it still would not be accepted in the usa media. They are a role model for young males everywhere that it is ok to have a close male friendship and express emotions, feelings and have sincere body contact without it being overtly sexual. They can be as they are because they are comfortable with who they are themselves as males and with their own sexuality. They don't concern themselves with what people think because it is not important. They know themselves and feel good about who they are. A real couple could only wish to have the connection and rapport that they have with each other, whether 2 men, 2 women or a man and woman. I've seen several of their interviews and they are always different and the same. They communicate well together and obviously the fact that one is from Ireland and one from Manchester plays no role although there is a BIG cultural difference. Personally I think they are great and I love their accents. For a certain class in England, even today their accents are not "right sort", an expression and English Lady aristo once remarked to me which I did not outwardly react to but inwardly detested. I do not classify people like that but there is still a certain population in England that does. Rock on Allen and Rob. Wish you both long, healthy and prosperous lives and continued good friendship. Thank you many times for sharing this video which is not only entertaining but inspiring. cheers
One has the feeling that Rob and Allen have been changed by their characters. Especially Rob's as he has studied the history behind his character as homosexual in Edwardian England and war veteran of that terrible 14/18 war. To not see the action as cowardice but courageous was enlightening for me as well. His explanation was brilliant. Thank you Rob. Which Apple Store was this interview in? In the original more free youtube 10 years ago there was a rating system which I miss. I would give this a 10+
I would have started screaming at 4:27 if I'd been there! Too cute for words! And I have to completely agree with the moderator that they're the two hottest stars on Downton, forget Matthew! I absolutely adore their "bromance" and how hilarious they both are, and they seem like genuinely nice people.
Forgive me if I say that Rob is WAY better looking than his character Thomas :))) What whith his stubble, his hairstyle, and most of all his lively manners, flying hands and bright eyes and infectious lauhgter... I really didn't need another infatuation in my life, dudes, but now I can't help it :))))) Yeah, and this two together is total win )))
What Rob was saying about holding his hand up in the trenches was interesting, it was brave cos he could have lost more than his hand, maybe a whole arm then he would not be able to work at all.
I do wish that somebody had asked this question to Rob: Do you think Thomas would lighten up if he found somebody who loved him and he could love? I'd like to know that..
Yeah but he would prob say no because it would have to be a forbidden love & kept secret.....I mean obv all the house know but it only takes one outsider to hear that he has found "love" with another man and he would be thrown in jail.....!
No, they're not acouple, they're just good friends. Rob is not gay. In an interview (look up "Joanne Froggatt & Rob James Collier" Jonathan Ross Show Series 5 Ep 4 2 November 201 3 Part 2/5" on youtube) he says he's in a relationship with some girl for 9 years and her family's putting pressure on him. It's quite cute actually.
Pachnący Kwiatuszek It's a huge pity, 'cause they are so cute together. I mean it, they'd be a beautiful couple. But, ok, if they aren't gay, they aren't gay and we cannot change no one's nature.
I really don't care what their sexuality is. My point is that for Rob James-Collier to have been in a long-term relationship LONG BEFORE he ever became remotely famous, in this day and age, means it's unlikely he's gay. John Travolta got married after he became famous so that's a very different thing, not to mention popular opinion has changed a lot since then. If Rob's gay, great; doesn't change that I find him hot. But you're being silly. What do you have to go on besides them goofing around?
Dylan, back then it was career suicide to come out. Not particularly true anymore, and you need to remember that Rob James-Collier had a longtime girlfriend and baby son before he ever became well-known through Downton. He never thought he would become so famous and it's highly unlikely that he would have begun a sham relationship just in case he ever got more well known. You assume he's gay because he plays a gay character and likes ot kid around? I know tons of straight guys who joke like that
Wow, thank you for enlightening me that actors aren't actually who they portray! I never knew that! Geez. Again, I don't care a bit if they are gay; in fact, I would be happy. But now you're saying Allen Leech is a queen? Where on earth do you get that? By the way, I do agree that for someone like Tom Cruise to come out, even today, could damage his career. But as you say, these guys aren't nearly so famous, so why the need to be closeted?
