Not gonna lie, I thought it was going to be the kid grows up and becomes a lawyer or a doctor that comes up with the idea of using DNA to free his dad from prison. They emphasize how smart he was.
There is a book out called: The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League and is based on Robert’s life. It’s a must read and can provide more insight about his story!
This is a brilliant film. If folks are familiar with the real Rob Peace, I am certain you’ll agree that this film is a fitting tribute. I saw it during Sundance, and I’m grateful many of the films shown at Sundance were available to stream at home. This was a benefit that started during COVID-19 quarantine. I hope it continues forever.
What are you talking about? Mary J has been nominated for an Oscar twice. She became the first person nominated for an Academy Award for acting and original song in the same year. She has been nominated for a SAG award, Golden Globe, a BFTA and many more! Camila Cabello has been in several movies and starred as in Top Billing in 2 films! Research before you speak! You won't look as ignorant
@SamanthaBaker8 no she's not! She said nominated! Mary has been nominated for an Oscar more than once, as well as The Golden Globes, SAG, BAFTA, critics award! Do some research you won't look as ignorant. It's a very simple Google search! 😊
@@aaliyahd5303what do u mean okay and? She’s literally in the movie😭 ur acting like she’s sayin that randomly. U do realise most of the views on the views are camila fans. Ur lucky it’s going to do good cuz of her.
@@fadleadam Age had nothing to do with it. She was aware of stereotypes about black people and made thousands of posts it wasn’t like it was just one. Also said the n word multiple times. And I’m glad you think racial stereotypes are considered as “funny memes”. This tells me everything I need to know.
Any project that Camila Cabello is a part of....count me in. I am black and I absolutely love her. I am not going to hold a grudge against her for some crap she posted on social media when she was a kid. We have all made mistakes in the past. If you're going to judge her then you need to examine everything you ever did, said or posted.
I get not holding a grudge okay, especially if a person has done the work on themselves, but um-"WE have all made racially inappropriate comments"???? You can't be serious, are truly serious, like seriously????!!!!! Nah, nah don't include "We" plural in this, ABSOLUTELY NOT! That's a YOU! On that one & I doubt you're really black for saying that... but then again, there are some black people that will do anything to kiss up & model themselves like white people, so possibly. But usually, people who know what it's like to be on the receiving end of marginalization & hate don't go out & perpetrate those same actions on other people & if a 5-year old & a puppy/dog can be taught not to be hateful from jump, & in the case of the 5-year old, taught not to be racist & that it's bad, why generalize that like it's a casual thing? Like it's calling you by the wrong thing, no, no, no, there's no (we) in that, I get defending her, but you did a poor job at it. & Like the above comment said, a strange hill to die on... or in that case a mudslide. Like come on now.
the weird thing is it seems like it's headed toward an endgame wherein he helps exonerate his father but according to my research, he actually passed away while incarcerated
Nominated for 2 OSCARS in the same year . However Mary is a Emmy and Grammy WINNER!!! Rock and Roll HALL OF FAME inductee!!! What an accomplished woman!!!
I watched a show on ABC called For Life starring Nicholas Pinnock, who is actually a dead ringer for Chiwetel. It’s about a wrongfully convicted black man who becomes a lawyer while behind bars. This movie stirred up deja vu 😂
Why is it always a struggle story ? How about making a success story with strong black educated parents raising their kids…there’s tons of black families like that and they don’t come from the hood. Oh I forgot…it’s too boring and thats not what they want. Ok I’ll keep watching Tubi
Agreed. There's nothing inspiring about a gifted kid from the hood who was afforded every advantage to get out, who nonetheless chose to go back to the hood, sell drugs, and die after graduating from Yale with honors. And yet so many Black kids from well-to-do or affluent 2-parent households have to compete with fools like Robert Peace for the attention and resources that the powers that be (guilty monied liberal whites) are so willing to hand out with reckless abandon in the hood. Rob's life story is a cautionary tale. I pray the movie is responsible enough to clearly convey that message in the same way the book did. But it likely won't. Sadly, I get the sense ppl will walk away thinking Rob was a hero and a victim of his environment. Truth is, Rob was a drug dealer who happened to have also been a genius who graduated from Yale, who ultimately made the decision to squander his potential.
A success story doesn’t fit with the narrative that blacks are downtrodden victims of racism. Even this guy was a private school kid, not a student from a failing school without parents who cared about him. He made bad choices like countless kids of all races. There is something unseemly about making it seem like a hero story when it is actually about a normal person who unfortunately got killed in a drug related scuffle.
Man I read this book the year it came out and just happened to be talking about it today. Strangely enough the person I was talking about it to just today found that the film is being released shortly 🤯🤯🤯
I read the book back in 2017 and so should anyone planning to see this movie before they go to the theater. For a young man with a genius intellect, Rob made some willfully dumb decisions that led to his untimely death. No matter how the movie will spin it, there is nothing inspiring about Rob's actual story.
I really don’t believe she’s racist at least not anymore but this comment made me laugh and honestly I was just as surprised. As much as I loved her new album all but one feature are black witch was interesting and there’s a lot of features. She does seem like she’s trying too hard to prove she’s not racist
Yall corny af, she isn’t uncomfortable around “those people”. She’s not a racist as well. Grow up ur past doesn’t define ur past nonetheless when it’s just a teen reposting memes.
I don't think she's uncomfortable at all but really wanna be part of the culture. She even called ex president Obama "mah niggah" lmaooo c'mon just let her in 😂🤪
ASIMISMO, THELA, LA INMADUREZ EN LA ADOLESCENCIA Y DE CIERTA MANERA EN LA NIÑEZ, NOS HACE EXPRESARNOS SIN PENSAR Y REFLEXIONAR, Y EN OCASIONES NO LO EXPRESAMOS DE CORAZÓN, SON SIMPLES PALABRAS QUE SALEN DE LA NADA, SÓLO POR MOMENTOS EN QUE ESTAMOS ENFADADOS, Y NO ES EL RESULTADO DE LO QUE SOMOS HOY. CAMILA HA HECHO DÚOS CON PERSONAS NEGRAS, LES ABRAZA Y LES QUIERE, SE VE GENUÍNO CUANDO LO HACE, NO HAY HIPOCRESÍA EN ELLA. ME PARECE QUE ES UNA PERSONA DE VERDAD.
@@anaisabeja3592 Umm, we don't need racist ass Camila to help the black community, and she's not trying to. She is capitalizing on the opportunity to take another opportunity that could've gone to a black actress. She likes our music, probably even our men, etc., but she calls us N-words. We don't need her or you for that matter coming over here bashing Normani. That woman is trying and has been trying to do her thing and put in work while opportunities are just handed to Camilla BECAUSE she isn't black, and some black people who have the power to help other black ppl come up have their own anti-blackness so they would choose a known racist over a black person.
@@anaisabeja3592 BTW, stop gaslighting. Plz don't tell us how much an effing racist is doing more for the black community than black ppl just bc some black black ppl are too anti-black and colorist to give an opportunity to a black actress. Camilla called us N-words. We don't need her just bc she likes black ppl enough when it gives her the opportunity to get a bag.
@@anaisabeja3592lol who are you as someone who isn’t 🤵🏿 to say what someone has been doing for a community you’re not even a part of. Stay in your lane. Camilla literally ran a racist account that made racist comments about the 🤵🏿 community and Normani. How is that doing something good? Ur Delulu. Stay in your lane.
Why do they always have to do the stereotypical movie about black people growing up in the hood but then everybody comes down on Tyler Perry why I don't understand I really miss the show it's a different world than where you came from because every this is not every black person story in America some black people a lot of black people don't even know anything about this type of lifestyle this type of ignorance this type of lack of education this type of poverty so if you come for one you should come for all so I say leave Tyler Perry alone if you're going to allow movies with this type of theme.... Just like the movie about the riots where the little girl's friend gets shot and you know she lives in the hood but she goes to a private school remember all that nonsense why couldn't she live in a better community like black people do and you want to know why people think this about black people it's the message that they're putting out I know plenty of black people that live in upper middle class areas and your kids go to private school and they've never set foot in the hood and they have legacy wealth why do we always do one type of group of black people I don't understand the message is very disturbing
