I love the joy on the faces of the bass player and drummer they're over there like "this is the best gig EVER!!!!". Probably was too. Robben is awesome, just everything.
Just hit my feed. 8 years? C'mon man! Saw this show twice in Wisconsin on the festival tour. Met the guys. Sat with the sound crew at Summerfest. Really nice guys. Best seat in the house!
RF and the Blueline were AMAZING and watching Robben evolve and follow his path is perhaps less satisfying for the pure blues fan AND even more AMAZING.!!
I discovered Robben sometime in the early 80's I bought the talk to your daughter album I have a couple of CDs I love Robbens tones and phrasing every not played with feeling and touch I really love when he plays with Larry Carlton they play off each other
Roben is phenomenal. Unique style, leaves open air then punctuates with some mind bending lick. This is high caliber stuff. One of the most underrated guitarists.
What about Tom Brechtlein, anyone? He already had an impressive CV (Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Al DiMeola) before this band. Giant groove and chops to dream about?
Fairly unknown Trio back then. But the album they are playing from "mystic mile" is my favorite! RB and TB ahave always been the best complimentary musicians to RF in my mind. The layed the ground perfectly for him to excell!
His Truefire instruction series is one of the most articulate comprehensive intelligent instruction programs out there. It's been around a while and maybe you owe it to yourself as a player to just listen to what he has to say, even if you don't put it into practice right away. Robben Ford is musician's musician. Some people call him under-rated. I have also heard that. I'd say maybe under-famous. But what musician in their right mind would under-rate such obvious exceptional talent? As far as the general public, it really doesn't matter much in the book of soul whatever imbecilic gibberish floats around in their programmed pin-heads. If popular thought was any index of anything, we'd still be living in caves. As for me, all progress stopped with diet pop and air-conditioning, and I guess electric guitar.
I love a lot of Robins music, have even played some of his songs, but a lot of it is so obscure that the point doesn't hold my interest. The show is lost in the details. Just my opinion. I like his voice. Great skillful players.
Ford just does not run out of ideas. Everything he plays is fresh. Great rhythm section too. Believe I saw Rosco Beck backing Eric Johnson on Austin City Limits back in the early 90s.
