Anyone else get a little teary eyed in this part? There's something unexplainable but this scene for some reason to me is just so beautiful.....because of that song! I guess it's because it makes these guys who think they are a couple of nobodies into two guys who mattered so much to so many people without knowing it. I feel like a nobody but this scene gives me some hope that maybe one day I will matter to many. **sniffs**
What helps more is how Bill & Ted see this moment as a curiosity and not as a personal advantage. They don't see this and go "We made the future." They look at it and see this as THE FUTURE.
Agreed. I like how Bill & Ted didn't know this, and how the scene did not explain their importance...only that there was one. Its like, how someone react if they felt like failures in the present, or just ordinary people that no one paid much attention to; and then suddenly someone from 40 years in the future travels back and brings them to their present. They arrive on a stage in a packed stadium, where upon walking out and being recognized, tens of thousands of people give an overwhelming applause and standing ovation. Perhaps because that person was destined to cure cancer or invent something that benefits everyone across the planet. -- The catch being that nothing is explained to their younger self, and he or she having no idea what they are being honored for, because they hadn't yet found their calling and started on their path. All they know is that whatever it was they did, it was obviously important enough to warrant the praise. -- Then that person is returned to their present (40 years earlier), and told something vague like "Follow your dreams" but given no specifics. I wonder if that would have an inspirational, positive effect..and perhaps cause them to make the achievement even sooner. Or if it will have an unexpectedly detrimental effect, because the experience made the person over-confident and more of a dreamer; 'living in the future', fantasizing on the praise and recognition of being important someday...but not putting forth the same effort they did in the original timeline... as maybe in the original timeline their determination to succeed was fueled by the challenges, struggles, uncertainties, doubts, and their sheer desire not to let those things cause them to fail. I'm just wondering out loud. I hadn't thought about this before now.
I think the important thing isn't so much what you will or might do, but that you can do something. Every single one of us has a limited amount of time in this world but our impact is there. We're not just insignificant blips on a radar. We are forced so of nature that have the power to change the very fabric of the universe simply by our presence.
It's almost poetic how in 2019, Keanu Reeves says something just as compelling, "Those who love us will miss us," after being asked what happens after we die.
Brilliant scene, rather than follow the rich and powerful the world decided to live by the example of two decent kids who wore there hearts on their sleeve and wanted to enjoy life.
Happy Bill and Ted day to you today. This scene has inspired me since I first saw this movie. I talk about it often and I'm happy to see others comments on it.
Oooooomg..I thought I was the only one..I was watching the movie last week ...I don't know why but on that part tears was just coming down. They were happy emotional tears idk 🤷 and I seen this movie a billion times..I'm glad you explained it..because I couldnt
Bill's facial expressions here are genuinely amazing. You can see he is both fearful and in awe of what he is seeing, but doesn't quite understand the scale of it all.
Good analysis, I’ve always loved how he looks around when stepping out of the booth, it’s stuck with me all these years, and your comment nails it… great scene, and great acting too, nice one 👍🏻
The fact that they believed they were nobodies but find out they are probably the most important historical figures of all time is so endearing to those who feel the same as they did
The greatness about this scene is knowing that your legacy will live on...knowing that you mattered. So keep working hard on your dream and don't give up!
@@elliotjames1273 The lead intro? IMO, it's very Hendrix-esque/late 60's style of lead playing. The rest of the song is in the vein of something like U2.
This scene is probably what confirmed "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," as my favorite movie of all time. It's not a masterpiece like Citizen Kane, as grandiose as Avengers Endgame, but because it doesn't need to be. Bill and Ted knew what it wanted to be. And it's scenes like this that make me love it.
The air guitar pendulum's...with their wide arcs and deliberate pauses performed by the onlookers...are the best part of this scene, because of how something so corny could transform into such an impactful and defining gesture, symbolizing Bill and Ted's legacy, and now emulated by people much older than they. It proves to them that they will amount to something.
i used to HATE this scene as a kid... granted, i was only 8 and wanted to get back to the "most excellent" adventure. though watching this as an adult, i love it.. i absolutely love it. it's strangely touching and very emotional. a perfect society moving in perfect harmony. you cant help but tear up at the thought of such a simple edict, given the world we live in today. be excellent to each other, and party one dude. it's almost like, this was the future you really wanted to live in.
I was the same way when I was a kid I always wanted to get past this scene. Now this is my favorite scene from the movie. Second being at the end when. Ted is talking to Bill about everything they've been through and says Look at us nothing is different.
That is a world for dreamers, perhaps -- the realists cannot exist there, i suppose. If we were inspired by that movie and hold course to realize that future, or a future like it, we had scores of years, decades... and where and when did we drop the ball? More wars, more economic displacements, more billionaires, more poor people, loss of agency , rich people abusing privilege, and none of these dream even gain fruition. Apologies to the future that is never born.
You just know that in Bill and Ted Face the Music... This is the song they make to save the universe. In Time... it's theirs. Which is why this scene becomes so retroactively the most important scene of this movie. Amazing.
Yea I was really disappointed at the ending of face the music, I liked the story but the song that plays at the end just wasn’t this song. Still tho I liked the film but I prefer this song
@@Ben-pd2bx ugh i really wanted to like the third movie but it was just so underwhelming this film was way better than the 2nd one, but even the 2nd one has some rewatchability. i don't think i could ever rewatch the third bill and ted
Would be trippy as hell for those future people, having the two founders of their Utopian society, who from their perspective have been dead for centuries, showing up and dropping their famous quotes without realising their historical significance :) I also love that the movement of strumming a guitar has become a gesture of respect and that the 3 elder leader guys do a slightly more refined version of it :D
Something about this scene just is amazing! From the subtle looks bill and ted give implying that they know this is something bigger than both of them but oddly familiar, to the respect the future people give them and then the concern at the end when they know the machine isn’t working properly.
My favorite part of this is that I feel the film means for this song to actual be one of Bill & Ted's actual songs that they write at some point in the future...the singer even sounds a bit like Keanu. Which goes back to what you are saying...Bill and Ted almost want to acknowledge that it sounds REALLY familiar somehow, but in the end it's just "Most outstanding." At least that's my interpretation of it :)
Tommylad2 the scene is great because it takes u off guard for a few minutes. Yeah they're in a time machine to do a history report and u forget... Oh, it can go into the future too.. it's a time machine. That with the music. Most excellent scene.
It really is perfect. It's like if you imagine a young Galileo, before his greatest achievements, showing up at NASA in time to see the Apollo 11 launch. He doesn't necessarily understand the things around him, or the significance of his own future contributions.
It's one of the things I miss most when I try and watch a modern movie. It's all so rushed. I feel I can't get immersed in modern movies because they don't take their time.
100% get teary eyed! There is a feeling of healing , light and unity in this moment with this extraordinary song... It's inexplicable... Emotional and incredible
Good Times remember my mum renting this watching it with her and my brother and sister sadly my mum and dad passed and have no contact with my brother and sister anymore sometimes just wish could turn back time 😢
This scene just works so well. The exceptional ‘In Time’ in the background, but more importantly it’s a coming-of-age moment for the duo as they finally realise the enormity of the situation. A truly bodacious three or so minutes
I love this scene. Even with the Cold War going on, there was so much optimism in the 1980s. We need to recapture that spirit and make it more contemporary in our own modern lives. #beexcellenttoachother #intime ❤️🎸🎤
The people in that future scene likely had to go through a LOT of depressing and HEART-WRENCHING things to get to the point where the boys see how their home planet turned out. It never fails to make me tear up when I think about that. A beautiful song.❤️
Imagine this from the perspective of the people in the film. You're lucky enough to be there when the foundational cornerstones of your society stumble in, before they have a chance to become said cornerstones. You don't have enough time to do anything but collectively give a symbolic thank you to them. It's just so pure. I think it goes the other way, too. I feel like this is when it really hits Bill and Ted. It's not just Rufus saying stuff, its their societal descendants in front of them, showing them that they matter, and that they are important, and nothing will change that. You can see it in Winter's and Reeve's faces, they are gobsmacked. Everyone has told them that they aren't worth a thing, but... here is people saying thank you. They _matter_.
Bill & Ted gave us probably the best future and most optimistic outlook of near any franchise. Everyone save Star Trek was all doom and gloom, pontificating about how our own creations would kill us or how we'd kill ourselves in an outburst of cataclysmic barbarism. But, Bill & Ted said the future would be fine. Sure, there'd be bad dudes like de Nomolos and his cronies, but for every bad guy, there would be a thousand good ones. That the future was in good hands. *Our* hands.
I didn't see this movie until this year. The fact that these two were faced with the reality that an entire civilation was hanging on their very words, and what they chose to say was; "Be excellent to each other," and "Party on dudes!" Is so weirdly moving. And then the lyrics of the song in the background feel so goddamn important after a year as horrible as 2020 become comforting. "In time, everything will be alright. In time, we'll be dancing in the streets all night."
Awww, this entire scene means that the future is going to be okay. As long as we're excellent to each other, and party on. Can't get more simple than that.
Still my fav part of the movie, this song is just so amazing. Its why i got into music all those years ago, i like the idea of universal peace through music.
I don't know, there is something completely cheesy but extremely "EXCELLENT!" (guitar riffs) about this scene. I mean how do you even do that???? God, what a gem!
Simpler times back then. I remember watching this movie and hearing this song, just dreaming about how life would be like in the “future”. Be excellent to each other. Always.
Be excellent to each other. = Love thy nieghbor as thy self. Be kind to on another. Party on dudes = Charish the moment. Enjoy life. Have fun. Find love.
I think everyone realizes that there was so much more wisdom in this movie than anyone was willing to accept😊. Thanks for bringing it forward. I would add to the "party on dudes": celebrate and be grateful
It's the fact that no matter how insignificant we believe our lives are we are all meant for something. I may never do anything incredibly important, my children might not do the same but regardless somewhere done the line something will happen and the knowledge of knowing it would never happen without my existence . Very comforting to know and not just believe that there are no accidents and we are all here for a purpose
Me and my brother favorite movie as a kid. I watched this the other day and sat up straight because of the importance of the scene. It's also good to see that people also felt the same way I felt.
This might sound lame, but this shit makes me wish I could like and reply to every single comment on here. This movie is the shit, and I can't wait for number 3. When ever I see this scene and hear these song. I don't know if it's just me (and again this might sound lame) I kinda get butterflies in my stomach, and I feel like it's the 80's again. Am I alone in this feeling?
U know what i just hit 33 and realized that its good bro life is a dream and when u finally wake up it will just get better. Stay young forever its all in the mind!
When I saw this as a kid in theater in the 80s, I didn't understand it. Now that I'm in my 40s, I still don't quite understand it-but I know its emotional. Bill and Ted are "The Great Ones". This scene justifies the entire movie.
Such an emotional scene. Everyone in the future views them as saviors of the world and they haven't even done anything yet. Really puts the importance of Bill and Ted into perspective. Also, that song is perfect for the scene
I have asked my tattoo artist to do the phone booth because as a kid I idolized bill and ted. He said that it always comes out weird looking but I think I have a better idea. Getting the words In Time are better. Because no matter how many times I hear this song or the guitar riffs or Robbie Robb singing brings me back to when I was a kid.
This song will for sure be no.1 on my Spotify 2021 list. Every morning, coffee, splifferoni, Air Assault in WarThunder, blast some Bombers with Zuni's 1km activation, while Robbie Robb - In Time is playing hits that dopamine spot everytime.
This song will be played at my funeral someday. Because when I go to Heaven I want Bill and Ted to Welcome me so I can shake Robbie Robb and their Hands and thank them for creating a Masterpiece of a movie! "Be Excellent to each other!" 👍😃
Such an amazing scene, it was incredibly moving when I first saw this scene, I had hoped that when they said about making the third film that they were going to use this as the song to bring the universe into harmony, make it full circle and for this scene to have real meaning, almost to give them a peek into the song to help them create it in their future...
I think that was the idea ..then hollyweird went full woke and couldn't have straight white men save the world , that's too problematic so changed it to their daughters cos yay diversity 🙄
Think about the last time you saw Hollywood put together a scene like this that is so powerful, inspiring, moving and artistic. They just don’t make them like they used to.
its 2022 came across the Bill and Ted soundtrack on Itunes and this song by Robbie Robb is pure Nostalgia along with Bricklin "Walk away" gives me the chills!
