From our personal archives, with his fabulous mom Ann Benson backstage! This was part of his book tour for Who Stole the Funny? in the fall of 2007 -- great interview with Steve Edwards and the gang!!
So nice to see that Robbie went onto bigger and better things! I would love to meet him in person and personally thank him for his role in the 70's ear TV movie "The Death Of Richie." It was THIS movie, AND Benson's portrayal of Richie that personally steered me away from thinking about drug use. Had this movie not sunk in the way it did, amid some of the real life things that plagued me as a budding teen back then, God knows where I might be today. Thank you Robbie, you're a great guy!
I'm the same age as Robbie...I first saw him in a made for TV movie back in 1975, "Death Be Not Proud" . That was great acting on his part and I couldn't wait to see him in another movie. That turned out to be "Ice Castles" , one of my all time favorite movies. The fact you and your husband have been married since 1982 shows just how grounded you both are, and Robbie appears to be humble, gracious, kind. He has such a soothing, soft voice, almost zen-like, yet his voice can also be powerful, ferocious, as he showed as the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. Thank you for sharing this video. It's am a true fan of his work.
I fell in love with Robby when I saw him in "One On One" when I was 13 and I've been a fan ever since. "Ode to Billy Joe" was also a favorite. I had to convince my sister that he was the voice of the Beast in "Beauty In The Beast". He is so handsome and so down to earth. It thrilled me to know he had become a TarHeel and was teaching at App where my former band director also taught. Wish there were more actors like him.
my mom loves this actor and i can see why hahah hes very talented and a great actor. i still cant believe he did beauty and the beast thats my favorite movie and my mom is ice castles and one on one soo im glad i can bond with my mom on something hahah thanks Robby for making that possible god bless (:
Karla, Robby was my heartthrob & I can't lie & say I'm not jealous. Congratulations to you both on your successful marriage. God bless you & your beautiful family.
He had amazing hair, he should do shampoo or conditioner commercials. I have to say long layered hair suits him, his hair is so thick out looks like a helmet when it's shorter. He also has aged amazingly well, the grey hair compliments his looks. His adding looks like one of those films where they age the actors with some makeup and put grey streaks on their hair, he aged like onscreen pretend characters
Hmm, hmmm, hmmm. He was fine in the 1970s and he's even hotter now. Same beautiful face. He's middleaged but still looks so healthy and fresh-faced. And that HAIR. OMG.
I was just watching Harry & Son (1984 flick with Robby & Paul Newman) and read his bio on wikipedia and had to see if there was anything here on You Tube of him and... WOW! He's still handsome after all these years and still keeping busy (he's so multi-talented). I had a crush on those "baby blues" of his when I was a little kid, but Karla, you are on lucky lady!
@KarlaDeVito Thank you for posting this. Of course I don't know him personally, but I have always thought Robby was one of the sweetest persons on God's green earth =). Growing up, I watched everything he was in. He is so talented. He so deserves someone in his life who sees him as "amazing." I reposted this on my facebook group "Remembering the Decades (TV, Music, Fashion and Fads)"
It was nice to see the female anchors gush and melt over Robbie Benson. He also played the room very well. The black anchor was adorable. Wow, I just noticed that this video was put on "RU-vid" in 2010! Hopefully that album has been made by now.
I am Robbie Benson's Fan since I was 6. I had a big crush, I was devasted when he got out of the movie industry, now that I am 40 I CAN UNDERSTAND. He is a real gentlemen. I named my second son Ronnie after him. My taste in men is tall dark and thick eyebrows. Mrs. De Vito you and your family are very lucky. God bless you all.
Have to be careful using Hollywood words! Robby and Karla great couple! Just telling someone my favorite Disney movie is "Beauty and the Beast" and the Beast Voice is Robby Benson, so my friend looks him up on her cell phone and states, he has had heart surgery! God Bless and Happy Robby is fine. Saw the meatloaf video and I just love it! Karla you own it! Saw others sing it and you are the Best! Well, Mr. Meatloaf, LOL, I know Mr. Benson didn't have to sleep on it! Peace,Love and Happiness!
- "What is that?...That thing you did with your hands?" (gang signs) - "Oh this?..This, that, this means I'm from Venice!, I Love my barrio, Venice!" * WALK PROUD (1979)* ....CLASSIC!
Karla, was Robby ever approached to reprise his role as the Beast in the Descendants franchise? My daughter loves the movies, but I think they would be even better with Robby as King Beast. I'm a big fan of your work. Thank you so much.
OMG! Karla DeVito! I don't usually gush, but it just seems kind of "surreal", stumbling upon you, here of all places. Is this a cool internet...or what? I must confess...I have adored you for the longest time (sorry, Robby!), and I sincerely thank you for "Cool World". It's always been one of my top-ten, all-time favorite albums. To this day, I still frequently delight in putting it on, cranking the volume, and just being BLOWN AWAY by every single song all over again. That Robby's SO lucky!
The Robbie Benson role that is etched indelibly in my mind is the made for TV Death of Ritchie. I think that movie may well be why I was never willing to try anything more than an occasional joint.
Have to admit, he was one of my first actor crushes too. Was just listening to the One on One soundtrack and thought, wonder if there os any vids of Robby! 😍
I will always love him. he is a great actor a super nice person. but when I think of him I think of him is Billy Joe McAllister. good luck on your journey through life much happiness to you loves you on Beauty and the Beast Ice Castles. you are so handsome. I am glad that you are happy I didn't get to see if you had any children I do know that you are happily married and that makes me happy. I just wonder if you ever read these comments. thank you for keeping us entertained all these years. God's blessings to you and your family. much love your way
@chambers2300 @chambers2300 Thanks to you and your mom! Not only talented, but he is an amazing guy!!! Check out Robby's Official website as I have been updating the latest news about him there! karla
I've been a fan of Robby Benson since Prince Valiant on Family Channel. He looks more like Sir Gawain now than Prince Valiant but that's by no means a bad thing, lol.
I bet he is an amazing guy but i wouldnt know because i never got to meet him maybe one day my mom and i will :D I will for sure check it out and translated for my mom so she can understand (: thank you ~ :DDDDD
He's so cute! I am young and I have never saw "Ice Castles" until yesterday. So, I was curious to see how he looks like nowadays, and when I found this link and watched it, I was like "ownnnn". He's awesome!!
I thought I recognized that name Karla DeVito....yeah you did sing with Meat Loaf in Bat out of Hell and Dead Ringer...I believe you were also back up for Billy Joel on An Innocent Man....but here I was thinking it was Darla DeVito...the former Miss New Jersey (I think).
@KarlaDeVito Meh. I am 28. This ventures into territory that is VERY bizarre for someone my age. (Imagine what it would be like to witness your elders go bonkers over a man thirty years your senior for something he did before you were born, and then, surreally, you see him do something you remember scared the crap out of you when you were eight.) Perhaps your husband could make a screwball comedy out of this...who knows...
