@@rudolphclaus9565 I read in an article he said "things were getting a little too Diane Sawyer in here" (I don't know what that means, I assume Diane Sawyer is a serious journalist and he thought the questions were getting too serious for the medium).
Cryer24597 l like how British people can't respect other people's boundaries. He obviously didn't like talking about his past it brought out emotions I don't expect British people to understand that, they don't know any better.
@@izkmky2811 It means you look nervous you'd better skip this question. If someone is nervous they start to become restless and jog their foot. In this case the interviewer was looking nervous about asking the question and Downey said skip to the next question.
Well, Robert Downey Jr. did say that his “process” for acting as tony is very simple, he plays it as if it were him who was a billionaire genius playboy. He puts himself in that situation in his mind and then acts accordingly. So from the very beginning Tony Stark has been Rich genius playboy Robert Downey Jr.
hes a very rude person but what hes doing in response to the drug questions isn't an indication of his hesitation, its him using a filler to process what hes about to say, even so he really doesn't deserve to interview people like Robert Downey jr
RDJ has so much class here and is such a boss!! "Your foot's starting to jump a little bit you better get to your next question" *Maintains eye contact* ... Brilliant!
Shaun Mason Music he's so fucking amazing Although it was getting uncomfortable he handled it like a fucking boss and if I were the interviewer I would shudder at the look rdj gave him when he said that. I have so much fucking respect for rdj after this
0:28 "Your foot's starting to jump a little bit, you better get to your next question". God, I would be so terrified to sit in front of him at that point. So calm yet intimidating. Props to RDJ though.
Richard Jones Downey was probably mellowed, that's how he stays calm, but got a little jumpy himself when he thought they were going to perform a dope test. Oh no, not our Robert, he'd never lie about having been clean for so long, he's never touched anything stronger than an aspirin since, and never shared any with his son.
I could see the pain climbing up his body when the interviewer started asking him about his father, you could tell by his deep breathing as it got closer to the end, hell, by the end of it he was nearly in tears.
This is the most annoying interview I have ever seen. There is no one he had the right to ask those sorts of questions, Downey definitely had every right to walk out, I would have done.
No, there is nothing wrong with asking those questions, but I didn't hear any question of sorts... Just a nervous shaky "interviewer" that started rambling about something... Couldn't even understand where he was going with his words and I don't think he knew either :\
@@XNYDNTE if your a celebrity the fame comes with certain negatives, he did those things and shouldn't be scared to talk about it, people like tyson fury do it really well and are loved for it
if you watch the whole thing, the jump was pretty odd. They were talking about iron man and bum next question how was in jail, are you a liberal, when did you stop taking drugs.. like wtf? How did the bloke ever got a job to do interviews
He's a celebrity! His behind is supposed to be kissed at all times. Good thing he's famous, if he was a poor drug addict in California he would still be in jail.
Can't say that RDJ didn't give this sneaky little twit the opportunities to get back on track. Rest in peace to this guy's possibilities of interviewing another high profile entertainer.
Shea Shea how is it inflated the guy had a f***** up past and he doesnt want to talk about it why shoupd he have to talk about. And its not like he was angry he was just upset and knew he didnt have to stay he could have become physical but he stayed calm and left.
+Natasha Pearson what is your problem? Inflated ego? Really? If you have a dark past that you want to move on from and you get a chance to actually change your future not only for you but also for your family, wouldn't you like to be confident enough to face it, embrace the better version of yourself? He is still vulnerable when he remembers his past, and that doesn't make him a person with an "inflated ego" as how he is now, but a person who is doing his best while moving on from that, which probably means that he has a deeper sense than you have with what he has been through. That is his weakness and we need to respect that. Try to understand people, not just how you see them on tv, but also wonder how do they deal with their own personal problems when off cam. Widen your comprehension.. And don't ever describe actor(s) as "only an actor", it actually shows you're belittling them and/or their profession.
Indeed. Ch 4 disabled their comments on THAT video, though. 12 Million views, no like/dislike. No comments. Seems Murthy can dish it, but can't take it.
This is the same guy who interviewed Quentin Tarantino and pissed him off. Surprised he didn't lose his job back then and I'll be surprised if he doesn't now.
Nooby Brendan I was in disbelief at first but then I realized this is just a piece of shit channel in general. They advertise and ask for subscription after showing what should be a total embarrassment to their reputation; even using picture frames from infamous interviews [the quentin tarantino for example]
Nooby Brendan I think he ought to lose his job. Bringing something that personal in an interview is not only irrelevant, but it's highly unprofessional. I respect RDJ for owning his past and not letting it define him as a person, so for fuck's sake let the guy move on! Hell, I'd walk out too if I were in his shoes.
Nooby Brendan Every American has an opinion on this, but do you idiots realize that this is a news programme? It is illegal for Channel 4 NEWS to have interviews that are just "promoting" a movie. This isn't Jimmy Kimmel Live. The entire situation could have been avoided if RDJ had a better agent who knew this was the case.
That interviewer is so stupid!! He could see Robert's mood change as soon as he brought up his past and his father. Come on! Robert is one of the most famous actors in the world right now! Can't the interviewer come up with questions about Roberts present and future instead of his past?
Micah I. The whole point of the interview was for them to get Robert Downey Jr to walk out. The interview had probably rehearsed the questions with the sole intent of ticking RDJ off.
ThatOneGuy That's a dumb plan on the channels side then. What are they trying to do? Get ratings? There are many other ways to get more ratings besides offending one of the most respected actor of his generation.
Micah I. They're not trying to get ratings. They're trying to garner attention. By breeding controversy, they're creating buzz and getting millions of views on their video. It's a pathetic strategy, but with the wide expanse of the Internet nowadays, it works quite effectively.
Didn't mean to offend any one of you. I first thought that RDJ was a prick. But when I read about his past after watching this video, I started to feel sorry for him. He had gone through hard times to earn and maintain a happier life. And he earned it in the end. Robert Downey Jr, I respect you just like other famous people who experienced hardship in the past and carry on being a nice person. :) And ignore those haters who wanted to bring you down.
Alex Law He has loved people feeling sorry for him since the time he sought public sympathy after admitting to his drug abuse problem, in order to take everyone's mind off his appalling behaviour. Do you respect how he attended his son's bail hearing for a drug related crime and was referred to as Iron Man by the judge who released his son with no charges? Fame does have its privileges in America. It's a shame he isn't a sportsman, the judge would have probably apologised for the inconvenience and driven them home himself.
Chase Fernando he was not starting to tearing. Those are the eyes of anger. He wanted to punch the interviewer so bad but he calmed down.If I was him I would set the whole building on fire.
You can hear the crackle in his voice when he says bye too. It's an interview about his acting not his personal life that happened soooo long ago. RDJ you acted more honorable than anyone could have there.
RDJ's son has recently gone into rehab.. ofc he's not free of his past. What a ridiculous and insensitive question to ask, especially when he's only got 3min to answer, insinuating that that would be enough time.
I could hardly watch this. I mean... Gods. Just the way the interviewer presents this question is so... nasty. It doesn't come across as an innocent slip-out, it's downright vile. Robert did the right thing: with very little drama just walk out, showing he doesn't need to listen to this kind of crap.
donkeebaIs RU-vid now displays the like/dislike bar on top of the video thumbnail. These videos will now get less views do to the dislikes, but can still get views from curios viewers or if this video gets shared on social networks.
How was that even a good idea? Why would this interviewer even ask that kind of question? What does that have anything to do with movie RDJ is trying to promote? Three questions that are better than the one this jerk was trying force.
SpottedTigress i could understand the testimonial value of someone famous on how he in retrospect is leaving that behind and being a better person/professional actor, but an interviewer should know how to deal with those kind of subjects, when and where.
SpottedTigressJournalists are supposed to ask tough questions. You can't call yourself a journalist if you bend over for every famous face that comes your way. All Downey Jr. had to do was say, "I don't want to answer those questions," and continue with the interview, but instead he went prima donna and walked out.
***** but those interviews are for movie promoting, hence, that was not the time to talk about it... he could ask for a personal interview at another time, when the promotion for a movie is not at stakes... it is cheap to sign in for movie promotion interviews and then make it about something else
***** but check the top banner picture for this channel in youtube yourself... the main picture depicted in that collage is about the time tarantino got pissed off by a similar interview disaster by this same individual... these people are proud of being douches
Why in the world is he asking about RDJ 's past when he is a actor the interviewer should discuss about movies and stuff He had every right to walk away
This is really horrible. You're not grilling a politician over things in the public interest - you're interviewing a celeb over a movie. Yes, he made some mistakes in the past. How about letting him move on with his life? It is really nasty how some people won't let former addicts get beyond that chapter in their lives.
The past is the past and that was highly disrespectful for him to bring up dark moments in his life that's had happened years ago. I applaud Robert Downey Jr. For not blowing up on you!!!
Well, after looking through the comment section, I saw some people saying RDJ's reaction and the way he walked out was "immature". As opposed to other "grown men" who would just smile and avert the conversation like a "professional" would. First things first: He tried that. It didn't work. Secondly, the reason why most famous, professional people just smile politely and avert the subject is because they know full well that their every action, word, expression, everything is being judged by people all over the world. One wrong move could put serious dents in a person's career, and thus, they choose to remain as if these things didn't even faze them. Then, there are people, usually older and more experienced, who just don't care anymore that they are being judged. They let the judgers and the haters say whatever they want, and respect themselves enough to know that they don't have to put up with someone who clearly doesn't respect them. The way I see it, this approach is more "mature" than just smiling and pretending you're not upset when you have just been hurt. PS: To the people who think "the interviewer didn't do anything wrong", you all seem to be such wonderful people, if you think bringing another person close to tears falls into the category of "doing nothing wrong".
Miu Tomomori I agree with you completely. They mag be famous but they are still human beings that have a lot of emotions. People shouldn’t judge them for every little single thing they do or say. Their personal life and career are two separate things. Honestly he could have smacked this man and shouted his mouth off but he didn’t, he calmly gave him a warning and then calmly walked away when that failed. That interview did not give a second thought about the nonsense he was sprouting on rdj. Props to Robert for leaving. I would have done earlier in his position.
Dear Channel 4 news, Please fire Krishnan and issue an apology to Robert Downey Jr, or you will always be considered an unprofessional news station. Sincerely, Everyone who doesn't have their head up their ass.
Gillian Bourne I live in America, which by proxy makes me an American, I suppose. Although my mother is from Irish descent and my father was Mexican. Why do you ask?
Gillian Bourne How is it irrational? Krishnan is purposely asking these absurd questions towards these actors in an attempt to cause drama and conflict. We can see from his interview with Quentin Tarantino that this is what he wants to do with his interviews. It's just sad. There are so many interesting questions he could be asking these talented people. But then he just wastes their time with nosy, useless questions that don't have any real value other than "getting a reaction." I don't want him to "get a reaction." I want him, as a "professional journalist", to get answers to questions that are on-topic and worthwhile. When Krishnan posted the video of Robert Downey Jr. walking out on the interview onto his Facebook, all he had to say was "Sigh...." The man offended Robert Downey Jr. with pointless questions meant to do nothing but upset him and get a reaction, made him walk out on the interview, and the only thing he has to say about it is, "Sigh...."? Is he a man or a 12-year-old girl? I don't think he carries himself as a professional journalist. As such, he shouldn't have a job as a professional journalist. At the very least he should never be the one chosen to interview these famous people. He doesn't know what to do with the opportunities that he's given. I think not firing Krishnan, not apologizing publicly, and/or not removing him from the duty of interviewing celebrities is far more irrational than just letting him continue onward with his complete lack of journalistic integrity. But, please Gillian, do tell why you think Krishnan deserves his position in life.
Jessey Bowman Why would they fire him for doing exactly what they asked him to do? You could tell krishnan was uncomfortable with asking the questions. He was clearly told to ask this. For ratings, no doubt.
Gillian Bourne Not true, I'm Australian and I have made such a remark, Am I going to be stereotyped into a typical Australian by your standards now? Your world must be really colourless and boring, We need less stuffing around from media Gillian Bourne, if that is your real name, How can you make such assertions? What would you know about the decisions we have to make or the responsibility to make sure to do what needs to be done? I would comment on more stupid trolls that seem to just attack people's opinions and say 'oh you must be American' but this will be the last one, mostly because Jessey tried to reply to you, although I know (in my personal opinion) your just trying to antagonize her for some stupid personal spiteful reason... Also if the interview was 'forced' to say this did he have a gun to his head? I'm not sure why higher ups telling you to do this for years abstains you from being criticised for doing something stupid, the interview should just expose the higher ups if he is being used and I could go on etc, but it will be meaningless as you won't care anyway... I'm sure you have never made an irrational comment ever in your whole life as whatever nationality it is you are Ms Gillian
*You can see Roberts' heart starts pounding away in his chest, that's rage, that's your body preparing you for a fight.* Robert showed such strength not telling off that arrogant prick. I hate the reporters smug laugh, like he's so proud. The questions were inappropriate for THAT interview, and the interviewer knew it, hence the nervous body language. People have a right to be guarded, people have the right to be upset, this just makes me like Robert Downey Jr even more!
A short amount of time with such an interesting guy squandered because he wanted drama. I'd have so many questions about his acting career and hopes for the future, his past wouldn't even cross my mind. (Not that it's anyone's business just because he's famous)
Zero Regen I think this interview pushed it way too far, but interviews should not be done by people who worship celebrities, which is clearly your case.
I only came here because I couldn't comment on the official post. I never knew how much I looked up to Robert until now. Like with that bullshit interviewer asking about his past I felt some anger and I felt really bad for Robert as well. Why can't everyone just appreciate him for the man he is now? I wish the things we did in the past would just stay there
His personal life is his business. You can see he started breathing hard when he brought up jail and it almost looked like he was tearing up when he mentioned his father. Just because he's famous doesn't mean his personal life should be on display for everyone to see and judge.
I love how I’m in 2018 and just found out about this. I’m so glad that he handled it the way he did because you don’t see that a lot with people nowadays. it’s mostly just blunt aggressiveness and starts a fight, but RDJ knows about this, he gives him a chance to stop, he keeps a cool head, doesn’t give the interviewer what he wants, and removes himself from the situation. I would really love to learn from him strategies on how to do this in life because as a person my age (16) you are always faced with “That guy”.
***** you kidding right?please let me know what are ethics being a journalist did that he follow? hmm? please. i would understand him if he just did once and completely accept that it isn't something the person likes to talk about when it was meant for promoting and ... like this .. he back stabbed.. what a coward. maybe from the beginning he should have said these are things i am interested and asked like a man. don't you agree?
Not defending the guy but seeing how nervous he is about the whole thing, I assume he got this questions laid out before him and was told to ask them, being well aware of what was coming...
He's such an inspiration. Coming back from a rough battle with drug addiction where nearly everyone thought so lowly of him, and now, he's been clean for YEARS and is one of the most successful men in Hollywood. He should be proud of himself.
When you're promoting a movie about superheroes, i.e. the sort of movie that little children watch, it's probably not a good idea to mention that the star was involved in drugs and imprisoned in real life.
Come on man, characters like Tony Stark, Batman, Wade ( he's bad) are different than regular superheros. I have watched in Disney channel their series almost include their lifestyle, complexion, violence and pretty much everything. And in movie it's clearly mentioned that those are PG-13. but knowing that some parents let their kids...... Again theses stories are little bit complicated, dark humoring. But those are the reason that Endgame could earn billions.
Raya Raya Lol that isn’t the point tho. Regardless of who the audience is, interviews like this are meant to promote the movie, not get into an actor’s deeply personal and sensitive past
RDJ was entirely in the right here. If you want an exposé, work the phones and get an exposé. If Disney is good enough to let you have five minutes with one of the stars of their movie, one of the most famous men in the world, you stick to what they invited you to do - a movie press junket. You do not sabotage the hospitality of Disney, Marvel, and Robert Downey Jr. for a headline. Disgusting and unprofessional. I'm both English and a Journalist. Today, I feel embarrassed to be that. An appalling show from Channel Four, and the worst thing is, this guy's got form!
y'all remember when in spiderman homecoming peter says "If you even cared you'd actually be here" and tony walks aout the suit? that's the same look 1:01
I was wondering if anyone else saw that. I think, maybe...(?), that Robert was sort of reassuring the interviewer that "it's OK". What do you or anyone else think?
Some people have a hard time understanding personal boundaries and have no respect for other human beings. I'm so sorry you had to have this interviewer RDJ but you handled it like a pro
I just want to say that in case anyone else noticed, Robert politely let him know that he didn't want to go there in the interview. When the moron kept rudely asking question he simply stood up and walked out. ROBERT DID NOT STORM OUT OF HIS INTERVIEW! Please stop saying that he did.

Damn Robert. He stood up for himself and that's so pure and heroic and I think that it's really hard to do that especially if your famous so this shows how fucking strong Robert is.
Robert deserves so much better than to be treated like this. He’s a talented actor, he’s brought a wide variety of people together through his films. He was quite clearly having some sort of panic or stress. Everyone knows about his past and if they don’t, they should respect his privacy. Getting him to talk about it wouldn’t achieve anything. This interview makes me ashamed to be english.
Am I the only one staring at that Krishnan guy's second chin? I can't take my eyes off of it for some reason... Maybe because I couldn't watch RDJ being asked something like that.
Mr Guru-Murthy, what a lack of shame, try to milk the juicy answers out a celebrity while they interview had nothing to do with personal issues. And then post the video of RDJ leaving the place as if he was some spoiled brat. You we doing a horrible job he had the right to walk out.
I think that Robert was annoyed by this guy, not only because he realized the guy was going way off topic- but his stuttering and his stupid face was just really bothersome! Look at that guy tho! Pathetic.
RDJ has a past as with everyone else, he currently has a image to maintain as a role model of being Iron Man and obviously would like to keep it with all his charitable causes, I'm guessing it has a sense of self worth for him. Why would you bring up the past where his younger audience might not have known that about him but likely will know when they see this interview...You want to ask those questions, become Oprah or schedule a interview about that type of questions, not ambush him on a press junket about his film. If I was his publicist for that day I would've immediately detected RDJ's uncomfortable glare and give the interview a reminded RDJ isn't here to talk about anything else besides the movie and completely stop it if he continued, he would've gained more respect from RDJ for that.
Regardless of what he did in the past , I consider this man my hero . Cause he's frickin awesome. He's a changed man .He is Inspirational to me. And I love him.♥️
What does RDJ's past even have to do with his work? He was there to promote a movie. This journalist has zero respect for the work; all he wants is an "exclusive" so he asks a manipulative question. Maybe he thinks asking this question means he's an "important" journalist. Nope, he's just an idiot. Way to go RDJ!
Sadly and ironically I'd say this is exactly why that guy is keeping his job... he's getting kind of "famous" by bringing up awkward subjects that end up pissing the actors off, hence, higher audience...
Even though he's majorly successful, I think it's still hard for him to talk about his past because he doesn't even recognise that guy anymore. He's come so far in his life that he doesn't even want references to his old self.
Good for you Robert ! I really admire he decide to walkout on this instigating interviewer who was trying interrogate him. he was smart enough to know , just because theres a camera on you , you are not obligated to have share every personal detail of his life with the whole world , if he decides not to. I admire the fact he has once already shared his hurtful and life struggles in the past . So why should he have to keep reliving and keep commenting on it, if he's bothered about talking about it . I , as well as others, respect that.
Well, let's start with the obvious: When given an opportunity to do an interview as a promotion for a video, getting into an actor's personal life is bad. Trying to dredge up bad memories and past mistakes is even worse. This interviewer (Krishnan Guru-Murthy) had some serious gall to try and talk about Robert's past. It's not the topic of the interview, it has nothing to do with the interview, and he has no business asking him that in a professional setting. That's like calling Kate Upton down to get an interview about an upcoming photo shoot, and then asking her what toys she uses to masturbate with. It's personal, it's private, and it's none of your damn business. He overstepped his bounds, and Robert was a real trooper. Instead of pulling a Tarantino, he calmly stands up, takes off his mic, hands it to the camera person, and walks out. I've seen the full interview, and when the interviewer starts talking about his past, you can see that Robert has an immediate reaction to it: his breathing starts to increase, his chest starts to rise and fall faster, his eyes seem to harden a bit, and his demeanor changes. It's not a subject he's comfortable talking about, and any professional news representative worth their salt would take this as a sign that it's not something they should pursue, yet this jerkoff did just that, to try and inject some sort of drama into a promotional interview for _Age of Ultron_. In all, I wouldn't even call this "Robert Downey Jr. Storms Out!!" like some people/news organizations are. He calmly removed himself from a tense situation, and he should be applauded for that. Besides, what other people do with their lives in private, unless it harms others, is no one's business but their own. You can ask about it, but don't be surprised if they get upset as a result. That being said, Krishnan Guru-Murthy is an asshole.
“Taking drugs and drinking and all of that...do you think you’re free of all of that.” What? Are you serious? First of all that’s such a sensitive topic, he looked so upset. If it’s in the past then it’s in the past and clearly this interviewer just wanted a story
I suspect that Mr Guru-Murthy might just be trying to beat his own record for pissing off the guests. I find his interview strategy to be both intriguing and difficult to watch at the same time.
Robert Downey Jr. is amazing. One of my favorite actors by far. I love that he went rock bottom and came back all the way to the top. Why dwell in his past about his "dark years?" We've all done things we are not proud of, celebrities just do it in front of the world. I think RDJ handled the interview like a real pro!
Robert could see what was going on. He was a bit upset, but he keep calm and called it out. I think his meditation and training shows. Much respect Robert.
Imagine going to an interview to promote a work of art that took at least two months to develop then to be confronted with your terrible past and problems. I would leave too.
