I know songs mean different things to different people, but anyone who has ever lost their way, but somehow managed to find the way back from the darkness , to the things , and people who truly matter in their life, knows just how true this song is. "It feels so good, feeling good again "
This song has always been one of my favorite. My interpretation is stepping out of purgatory and into heaven. It takes a few looks around the room before you realize where you are. ALL your friends are there. Texas Forever!!!
I wanted you to see em all, I wished that you were there, I looked across the room and saw you standing on the stairs. How someone can articulate and poet something so masterful is beyond me
Quite possibly the best version of this incredible Robert Earl Keen song. He's one of our best song writers and he performs them for those of us that appreciate great poetry put to simple and tasteful melody. Thank you.
Inadvertently saw Robert Earl Keen in concert at the Minnesota Zoo last year. He had a large following of people obviously there for him, though I came to see the opening act, The Lone Bellow. Funny how that works out...when audiences become fans of different artists just by being in the right place at the right time. Wish I saw you standing on the stairs.
My dad used to play all your albums especially this song and for some reason I find some solace listening to it. Makes me cry and smile at the same time. Thank you for giving me something to remember him by
Michael Weston I know what you mean. The last time I saw him live was in college in San Marcos, right before they changed the name to Texas State. Feels like yesterday. Sure wish I was feeling that good again...
Standin' down on Main Street Across from Mr. Blues In my faded leather jacket And my weathered Brogan shoes A chill north wind was blowin' But the spring was comin' on As I wondered to myself Just how long I had been gone So I strolled across old Main Street Walked down a flight of stairs Stepped into the hall And saw all my friends were there A neon sign was flashin', "Welcome, come on in" It feels so good feelin' good again My favorite band was playin' An Otis Redding song When they sang the chorus Everybody sang along Dan and Margarita Were swayin' side by side I heard they were divorcin' But I guess they let it slide And I wished I had some money With which to buy a round I wished I'd cashed my paycheck Before I came to town But I reached into my pocket Found three twenties and a ten It feels so good feelin' good again There was old man Perkins Sittin' on his stool Watchin' Butch and Jimmy John Talkin' loud and playin' pool The boys from Silver City Were standin' by the fire Singin' like they thought They were the Tabernacle choir And I wanted you to see 'em all I wished that you were there I looked across the room And saw you standin' on the stair And when I caught your eye I saw you break into a grin It feels so good feelin' good again I wanted you to see 'em all I wished that you were there I looked across the room And saw you standin' on the stair And when I caught your eye I saw you break into a grin It feels so good feelin' good again It feels so good feelin' good again
Damn Robert that was jest beautiful my man I have been away from the music for too long but I will playing and listening to your music along with a few other friends and music writers… Good music is good for the soul …
I wished I had some money for which to buy a round... I wish I'd cashed my paycheck before I came to town... I reached into my pocket, found three twenties and a ten....feels so good, feeling good again... The imagery REK has created in the minds of so many listeners over the years... The connection people have with the feelings he represents... One of the truly great writers of our time...
There's real magic to: And I wanted you to see them all I wished that you were there I looked across the room And saw you standin' on the stair And when I caught your eye I saw you break into a grin It feels so good feelin' good again It's like painting a picture.
So like, you saw Christabel again on the stair and wished she was there? in a better mood but still another of your ghost songs. Jimmie Dale Gilmore told us about West Texas mysticism and letting those molecules fall into place.
I wish I had known about REK in the 80's. Was a late bloomer in the 2000's. I have tickets for Birchmere 2022. Cannot except he will not be back. Unacceptable dude
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but inherit Eternal Life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, but men loved darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come into the light, for fear that their evil deeds will be exposed. But he who does the truth comes into the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done through God.” John 3: 16-21
I don't know exactly what the character is going through, but I always image he's been out working in the oil fields for an extended time. Has come into town to have drink at a bar thats special to him, and hoping he runs into a girl that he knows and likes a lot. Spending that last little bit of per diem money that's burnin a hole.
