... und er rennt die ganze Zeit umher! Ich hatte den gleichen Gedanken wie du. Der Sound und die ruhe der Stimme haben mich schon damals, mit 10 Jahren, sehr berührt... ohne den Text zu verstehen!!! =)
I'm 32 and I already have a diarrhea attack because I notice how fast time passes but I knew that since I was little. I hope in the future I can put my brain in a VAT.
As much as I miss Robert Palmer I miss the time when this song was on the charts. It's hard to capture just how good it felt to have this feeling in the air. I know people go overboard with the 80's nostalgia, but really, songs like this make you understand why it's so prevalent. It was just a great time to grow up.
@@DrLoverLover I'm nostalgic for something real. This is something I think about a lot. The time period I grew up in was about the only good thing about my childhood. I'm sorry if it doesn't match your experience.
That song had all the girls like simply irresistible Robert Palmer was one of my favorites in the 80's if not the best song but one of the most meaningful songs ever It Takes Every Kind of People...
Johnny and Mary Robert Palmer dieses Lied war früher schon schön und heute noch so vielen Jahren immer noch schade dass Robert Palmer nicht mehr lebt ruhe in frieden❤❤
I agree. Was born in early 70's. So my teens entirely 80's. It was like living in a time capsule, never to be experienced again. The tale of the technology age.
A binary decade. Some of the all time best music, ever .... And mucho girl/boy band/mass production dross that ... well, shouldn't ever have happened! ;-) Still.... great Art wouldn't be great if it weren't niche?
I remember when this song was released, I thought it was the best song I'd ever heard, we danced all night to it. We had so much less in those days yet life was richer and full of hope. I dont remember so much hate in the world like today, I so wish I could go back again.
I watched a French movie this afternoon - "Le Lycéen", or "Winter Boy" for the English-speaking market - and just HAD to sit and watch the yards of credits unroll when the action was over so I could get the name of the marvellous song that ended the film so suitably. Then I came over to RU-vid and here it is with all the words. So very well-worth waiting 43 years to find!!!!
+SPECTERO FRANCHETTI actually, he was massively underrated in the UK, not the rest of the world. While his songs like this one became top 5 in the world, they hardly topped TOP 50 in the UK. Cant understand why, this is an unforgettable GEM from my youth...
+SPECTERO FRANCHETTi yes agreed the BRITISH press were pretty nasty towards him [when are they not really!?] the video always had special sentimental value for me and indeed much of the music of this era !!
I only came to really understand the true meaning of this song when my marriage was coming to an end. Such an underrated masterpiece. An epic voice and a talent who left us way too soon.
I was 7 when this came out. I remember this like it was yesterday. I've always loved Robert ever since... this song is so unique sounding, calming melody, but kind of a sad meaning. I can't believe this is 43 years old! WHERE DOES TIME GO??!!
Turn this around...the conclusion should be...this fells so bad because of the songs that are. Im 36 and early this year i discoverd joy division and i never even felt more than understanding and honest appreciation for finding true love and passion and to this day i sometimes start to cry out of pure joy and happiness. And im still not able to understand the reason why all this affection all the love and joy he gave us when he wasnt able to even feel by himself.Sry bad language and spelling. Thanks for sharing guys...take care!!!
Here we are 2022 finding ourselves listening to one of the greatest songs of the 80`s realizing how many indisputable great songs Robert Palmer offered to us! Thank you very much, Robert 🤫😍🥰🙏🏻😇!
I thank you Mr Robert Palmer. RIP. You were taken far too soon. You are leading the angels, in song, and voice. I discovered your unique voice very late. 😢😢😢.But i listen to you at every chance. Miss you, Mr Big. Your family would be so proud.
This was the first song I ever heard from Robert Palmer. I love the texture of his voice on this song. So different from his later and more popular stuff. This is a gem.
1980: One of the best songs in the world!!! 2021: One of the best songs in the world!!! 2022: One of the best songs in the world!!! 9997: One of the best songs in the world!!!
In all seriousness, I do wonder what people in 9997 will know about us. Theoretically, since digital tech and the Internet, there could always be a perfect record of history. Videos, songs, as if they were made yesterday. We don't have that from 8000 years ago!
Johnny's always runnin' around Tryin' to find certainty He needs all the world to confirm That he ain't lonely Mary counts the walls Knows he tires easily Johnny thinks the world would be right If it could buy the truth from him Mary says, "He changes his mind more than a woman" But she made her bed Even when the chance was slim Johnny says, "He's willing to learn When he decides, he's a fool" Johnny says, "He'll live anywhere When he earns time to" Mary combs her hair Says, "She should be used to it" Mary always hedges her bets She never knows what to think She says that he still acts Like he is bein' discovered Scared that he'll be caught Without a second thought Runnin' around Johnny feels he's wasting his breath Tryin' to talk sense to her Mary says, "He's lackin' a real Sense of proportion" So she combs her hair Knows he tires easily Johnny's always runnin' around Tryin' to find certainty He needs all the world to confirm That he ain't lonely Mary counts the walls Says, "She should be used to it" Johnny' s always runnin' around Runnin' around
How tremendously beautiful this is. His voice, the pantomime, the story... Robert looking through the curtain...*sigh*...I'm growing more in love with him everyday. RIP.
Johnny's always running around Trying to find certainty He needs all the world to confirm That he ain't lonely Mary counts the walls Knows he tires easily Johnny thinks the world would be right If it could buy truth from him Mary says he changes his mind More than a woman But she made her bet Even when the chance was slim Running around Running around Johnny says he's willing to learn When he decides he's a fool Johnny says he'd live anywhere When he earns the time Mary combs her hair Says she should be used to it Mary always hedges her bets She never knows what to think She says that he still acts like he's Being discovered Scared that he'll be caught Without a second thought Running around Running around Running around Running around Johnny feels he's wasting his breath Trying to talk sense to her Mary says he's lacking a Real sense of proportion So she combs her hair Knows he tires easily Johnny's always running around Trying to find certainty He needs all the world to confirm That he ain't lonely Mary counts the walls Says she should be used to it Running around Running around Running around Running around
Being just a couple of years younger than Robert Palmer (and a good Yorkshireman as well) I thought this man was the "coolest guy on the planet" during the seventies and eighties, so cruel he had to leave us at such a young age. RIP Robert and thank you for the music you have left behind for us.
Just when I thought I possibly couldn't be transported back 42 years again, this one shows up!💓 Robert Palmer was in a Class all in his own!😎 To the days we thought would last forever!!!💕
I understand what you're saying, but wonder whether it *has* to be that way. What if Johnny wasn't constantly chasing certainty or acknowledgement? What if Mary said "enough of this shit marriage"? These lyrics in just three minutes portray two deeply unhappy characters who are stuck in their unhappy groove. Such mastery of words!
My favorite song, having crushes 😍 makes me feel like a teenager, and at my 40’s when I listen to this music 🎼 I get nostalgic ! Cause I can’t do dumb shit like when I was young, things like leaving all behind and go to chase the 2 girls I like the most between 7.3 billion people … one smile 😊 and one pair of eyes 👁️ put a light upon me … 🙏🏾🫶🏽 blessed 😇 the heavens for having you living here in these earth 🌍
This song came up on Spotify, never heard it before. I knew his other work in the 90s. Never heard this gem. Probably because I wasn't alive when it came out. What a masterpiece.
+MephProduction A LOT of what was produced in 1980 still sounds fresh in the 21st Century. That's one of the things that made/makes the 1980s so special and great.
51 and its all behind me now, but when I listen to this, I remember the times when it was all in front of me. Greatful to have listened to this man's music. God bless RIP
I was a teenager in the 80s, an era of the greatest music ever. And, yet, whenever this song came up on the radio, I would stop everything I was doing and just immerse myself in it.
Imagine driving, at dusk, summer, windows down, the warm air touches your face, and this tune comes over the air - the eighties were just brilliant. When radio was a treasure trove of never ending and now legendary hits.
While he was alive, I was a huge fan of Robert Palmer but never realised how underrated he was until after his death when I started listening to all his different types of music deeply missed may he still be making music up in heaven?
I forgot this was a Robert Palmer song. And I was in Massachusetts at *Kolburne School* when it came out and used to blast it thru the dorms then on repeat .
"Johnny feels he's wasting his breath Trying to talk sense to her Mary says he's lacking a real Sense of proportion" best ever lyric and so profound. can't be arguing with someone who doesn't understand my troubles.
Susanne, I lost my mom in 95’. It sucks, I’m sorry. (I’m her death age now which is freaking weird.) Because you’re in my unfortunate club, please read Motherless Daughters. It was so helpful.
