Robbie Blunt's enormous contribution as both writer and guitarist with Robert Plant really deserves much greater mention and appreciation whenever the topic of excellent rock guitarists is being discussed or considered .

@@RC-gf8cs oh bro, plant on this era, to me (having dissed him for zepps bad and forced performances back then, even though his singin is a must in my singin world), re conquered his throne and with these tight band ruled supreme, but just when i heard what robbie blunt was all about (first thing i ve ever heard from plants solo career, this very gig)... man, not only he scored points by being a strat player (im also a guitar player/freak), his prowess during the performances, his clean but huge sound, really slick use of chorus (lil bits off it, very lil bits), versatile delay use throughout the songs, and ferocious playing on heavier tunes, excellent note selection on slow songs. blunt just put me in a coffin, no kidding, very inspirational player and a pleasure to listen and come back to listen again and to learn from. hes like a debugged page/blackmores children, in the greatest manner, by not only being badass and good composer but to fit this band with a clear and not over the top guitar tone plus huge presence (guitar sound), also capable of create sound passages, beautiful melodies. a year ago i saw big log video and didnt like at first (heard this gig and the band first time 9 months ago) but robbies playing made me appreciate that song and to really love it since then. u and thehumbuckerboy are god damn right on every level on your statements. only thing he seems to lack (since no ones perfect) might be slide playing chops (pages a master of it and blackmore doesnt sound like no one at slide guitaring)... for this type of music and era... robbie blunts already a guitar god in my book, period. big sounding guy with heavily insping playing with a soft and clear tone, and tons of style.

On drums was the late Richie Hayward of Little Feat, who was also a great lyricist. He's dearly missed.

The rawness of this performance is, to me particularly touching....to make the bold decision to let sleeping zeppelins lie (in 1982 through today)...I am In awe of this man...and the fact that he continues to move forward 30 plus years down the road is truly inspiring...No, he is not a part of a jukebox...Robert Plant has True Class...New album being released 9/9/14...give 'em hell Percy ;-)

HI EVERYBODY This should be the best post about this show. Because I was there and remember it well! I was 22 and on a 3 day trip with my Mum to London. I was sick, it was the last day of our trip, a Tuesday, and while semi bored in the hotel after dinner I was looking through a small music paper of some sort. In the back was the itinerary of shows coming up in the area. I saw Robert Plant's name and saw his show was Dec 13. It was odd because that was TONIGHT although it was listed between dates for other artists on the Friday/Saturday 10 days away (a week from next)! Must be a typo I thought, it was of course but the date was correct because I called the Hammersmith to inquire about it. The nice person said it had been sold out for weeks. Awe um I must of been really ready for venturing out on my own in the first big city of my life, on another continent no doubt. I had gotten a bad flu a day before leaving the States, really bad timing. I turned to my Mom and asked if I could take a taxi there just to be out front for fun, and then come back to bed and go home the next morning. A fun way to end the trip. My Mum saw I was excited about it because it was the singer of Led Zeppelin!!, so she gave me 50 pounds and I took the subway there about 7pm I think. Got off about two blocks away and walked toward the Hammersmith. I saw it up ahead tucked under an elevated highway which right over the front doorway. As I got closer a short fellow approached in the dark along side me while walking and inquired "Hey hey Do you want a ticket?" I was not used to the Scottish accent (Gaelic?) so I miss heard him and replied "No thanks, that's what I'm looking for." Lol I hadn't even started yet, I was still walking closer to the venue.. He says No no, I want to sell you a ticket!. OHH wow Ok! I said "How much?" He said "75 pounds." I said, in my American Minnesota non-accent that "I only have 45 pounds, I need five pounds for the taxi back to the hotel." He said Ok. We stopped and I dug out the money. I was nervous, it was dark and I was out of my element sort of. I had to trust him because he wanted me to stay put as he went up ahead and around the corner with my money! Wow ok I was like this is going to be fantastic if he returns lol. HE DID, and produced a small 2 inch square piece of brown paper stamped with info on both sides. All of a sudden I had a ticket and only had to wait two hours before the show started. So um I waited and sat under the cement piling on the right side watching the crowd gather out front. It was only about 50 people at first, with leather jackets with studs, punk leather boots, long spiked mohawks, sort of a 50's rebel look on most of them. As I sat i talked to someone who thought the plain white van parked nearby up against the Hammersmith might be a musicians vehicle or something? hmm. Anyway, They were so nice they let me go to the bathroom INSIDE the Hammersmith BEFORE the doors opened, she said "come back out right away ok?" She trusted me, that would never happen in the States I believe. What a relief. Once the doors were opened, I went to my 7th row balcony seat wearing a big green winter jacket. I enjoyed the show. I bought all of Plant's records after this and loved the earlier ones the most. Two guitarists, keyboards stage right AND left! I remember that Robbie was wearing fast looking wrap around sunglasses and pointy cowboy boots, pacing around stage front with Robert. At the end of the encore, Robert said something and it was treated with a repeating fading echo while they all left the stage to the right. As the show was over and the audience was milling about clapping and getting their jackets ready to put on, A VOICE CAME OVER Announcing "Please welcome a special guest JIMMY PAGE! (I believe this announcement and a conversation with a particularly boisterous inebriated chap in the balcony, again to my right lol, is cut out from this source here and isn't present) OMG!! Everybody literally lifted off their seats in unison and erupted in frantically appreciated massive applause as the group, and Jimmy, came back out of stage right ALL WITH A NEW CIGARETTE HANGING OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THEIR MOUTHS! Jimmy was in a white t-shirt, black pants and a white stratocaster. His small white stage guitar amp was already there in front of the keyboards on the right. I was thinking I now know who was in that white van parked outside along the right side. They played what I always thought was a Ry Cooder song because of what someone said nearby me. I told the person next to me that "I must be the luckiest person in the whole audience because I'm seeing "half of Led Zeppelin" almost by chance and that "I must be the only American in the audience" I probably wasn't of course, but it felt like it to me. I could NOT hear Jimmy at all, but no matter I'll stop writing now and listen to the rest of this show right now. (edit; I CAN HEAR JIMMY for 1st time! He wasn't loud enough to reach the balcony, but is audible on this tape WOOHOO! I think this is only Jimmy's 2nd stage appearance since Zep broke up too) Thank you for posting this long awaited refreshed Experience! cheers -Mark

Version of Pledge Pin with the adding of the guitar solo and heavy guitar n key's at the end is kick and Ritchie Hayward destroys the song, the whole show, best live version of that song I've ever heard. Hayward probably one of the most underrated drummers ever he was so ahead of his time in just his style of playing its ridiculous.

Now I've been to a shit load of concerts but the thrill and excitement of this concert in Houston tx was fucking off the hook. I was in high school. This night was different for some reason I remember it well. And they didn't disappoint whatsoever. Plant came back strong and focused with these first solo efforts and just killed it. Robbie Blunt what a motherfucker he is a monster guitar player plus Phil Collins and the rest of the band Over the top words don't do em justice just listen. Amazing One of the best times of my life still smile when I think about it Magical. For sure

goodness! I saw this tour at Sheffield City Hall, absolutely brilliant set, but he didnt do Treat Her right as the last song, and I cant for the life of me remember what it was but he did a very long vocal/guitar duel with robbie, and he was spot on all the way through, I must say that I like the fact that Robert didnt continue on the Zeppelin type of music, I love Zeppelin, but it wouldnt have been the same, and I like the way he has stretched himself musically over the years, he may have been a bigger star when with Zeppelin but his catalog since going solo is extremely impressive.

+Gary Milnes Right on my friend! Your comments about Plant's new direction, post-Zep are spot on as well. I can't stand listening to all the whiners and cry babies on RU-vid that complain that Plant isn't reuniting with Page/Jones for a Zep Tour, and that he doesn't play the Zep material EXACTLY like he used to on stage. What a selfish, narcissistic viewpoint that is! Cheers from California :) ♪♫♫
@garymilnes4851

+1970borntorun yeah it bugs me when people come down on plant because he wont reform Led Zeppelin, and to be honest, I guess people forget that Bonham and Plant were such close friends, Nobody can say that he has turned his back on zeppelin though, hes recorder with Page many times, and as you rightly said, he puts a whole new twist on some of the old standards from Zeppelin, He has certainly been the most active of the remaining Zeppelin members, and I think it is because of Plants stance on reforming the band that they were able to make such an impressive set for the O2 celebration day gig, just imagine that set half way through a tour, would it have been as crisp? exciting?? I honestly dont think so.
@1970borntorun

I think one or two Zep songs is great in a Plant concert, but lately its been a majority of covers plus rearranged Zep numbers. The music is here is riveting, why doesn't he touch his back catalogue, or Fate of Nations, Lullaby... etc? The man's voice is still great, I'd rather him breathe life into Like I've Never Been Gone or Sixes and Sevens than do Black Dog for the thousandth time.

@nathanevangello3376 - I prefer a lot of the songs where Robert doesn't revert to screaming, he's a much better singer without the hysterics. In fact a lot of my favorite performances by Plant in Zep were from 75-80, using his low- mid register. I'd take that over the first two Zep LPs any day. As a songwriter and singer, however, Plants output in the 1980s shot him into the stratosphere. He had (has) so much vocal control and he did some amazingly weird/ creative records. The records he cut and shows he did were seminal, in my opinion, especially Fate Of Nations. I wish he would've continued solo instead of doing that reunion with Jimmy. It was a dead end by 98, anyway.
