He's right, with sentences so long, he has absolutely no incentive to do anything other than try to escape. That's kinda dumb. Give the guy 10 years, make the first 5 super uncomfortable, make the second 5 about preparing for a new kind of life as a free man, and then see what happens with his attitude.
i think hope is just one of the very unlucky ones. lets logically think about it. wtf is 148 yrs behind bars to a person who did not kill or hurt anyone? even people who kill or rape get lesser sentence than that. something is definitely fucked up.
Moo Hyuk Jun he has threatened to kill people, his nature is to commit crime, I don’t see any alternative though I think rapists and the like should get what this guy gets, life in prison.
This man didn’t commit murder, rape or any crazy violence. The system is so cruel. He was 26 years old at that time your brain isn’t even fully developed until after 25.
this poor guy has been locked up for 17 years in death row, treated like a death row inmate, yes, he made mistakes when he was younger... didnt kill anyone, yes he stole money but gee... 17 years doing 23hrs a day with an hour of rec a day, 5 days a week.... thats a little much.... he's a good friend of mine and dont deserve what he's gettin. what a shame!
My dad worked his trial as a CSO in 1996, Judge Maloney's courtroom at the downtown Dallas Federal Building. He reached into his jacket and placed his hand on his gun, watching Dennis Wayne Hope like a hawk as the escapist grabbed a pencil and was contemplating stabbing his attorney with it. My dad's hand was on that gun the whole time after the pencil incident, but DWH did nothing else. It was the closest my dad ever came to using deadly force on a defendant during a trial.
Yes of course! All the guards, police etc get payed out of taxes. The more taxes, the more tax must be paid. One of the main reasons for the death penalty in some states of America, is because the price of keeping such a prisoner alive is phenomenal!
Repeated escape attempts? They should have put him underneath the jail. Maybe today's version of Lew Sterrett would change his attitude about jail. A Cool Hand Luke he may be, but if he couldn't stand to be in jail, he shouldn't have committed the crime in the first place.
@valleygirl11able Hey hello, yes its steve... No havent been able to go see him yet, i wanted to one day but i live 1000 miles away... I been writing to him for some time and we actually got alot in common, even had the same job, and family business... He never mentioned a girlfriend at all... or any friends.. thats strange.. How do you know dennis? are you friends with his girl? Well get back if you can shed any light on the sit.. bye now
hey i was wondering how often you write him, cuz he told me that i was the only one writing to him at this time and he has no other contact with the outside world. As such i sent him money for the holidays... just wondering what he was telling you, and have you sent money? I wanna beleive that he isn't trying to scam me. He seems like such a good guy, and i really feel bad for him.... Please get back if ya can... thanks. (:
You hope he wasnt lying to you, and not trying to scam you. Steve, I am sure you have a good heart, and look for the best in everyone, but let’s not forget who you are dealing with, this guy is a career criminal, a master manipulator, it’s easier for him to tell a lie then it is for him to tell the truth. I was a prison guard for a while in Texas, and I dealt with inmates everyday, and they are some of the most convincing people you will ever meet, but as I was taught, The whole state of Texas judicial system determined that this person cannot be trusted to live outside of the walls of a prison, so why should you think otherwise. Yes their are people locked up that are later found innocent, but that is few and far between.
Hello. Thanks for your concern.. you are rite. I was talking to him for some time , sent him a little money and then I caught him in several lies.. so I pretty much told him I’m all set.. I still think the punishment is a bit harsh but he clearly keeps taunting law enforcement.. and I know Texas don’t play! Lol. So I wish him the best but I cut ties. Thanks Murphree’s 😁
@@stevietire71good for you. You know robbing people with a deadly weapon is extremely traumatizing, if he wasn't kept in prison he was gonna end up killing someone. His no longer in solitary confinement though. How much money u sent him
@001avery i was wondering who the hell you are?? we all been writing dennis cuz he said he had no other contact with the outside world! We felt sorry for him after seeing him on almost got away with it, but it seems that he is robbing these girls like he robbed those stores, and thats not very nice... we felt bad and tried to help him cope. as well as sent alot of money, but no more... dont be mad at us, we were just going by what he said. are you his girlfriend??
Criminals are NOT dumb (the only dumb things they did/do is commit heinous crimes and kill)....Majority have IQ's ranging from 130 on up (The Unabomber's IQ is in the 160's!!!!!). Dennis is VERY intelligent! People like him definitely need round the clock supervision. They are that cunning....
@001avery why are you attacking these girls on here as well as myself who are just trying to help your "so called husband" !!!!! Hes locked up for 80 years and he aint going NOWHERE!!!!! You got a better chance of seeing god in a turtleneck then ever seeing dennis walk the streets again.... so it aint our fault... we just went by what he said to us...
Is this the guy who faced charges of armed robbery and impersonating a public servant, then escaped Dallas county prison, and later darrington? I swear this is the same son of a bitch I saw on nat geo's breakout, and I almost got away with it, and this guy was robbing stores while impersonating a Loomis armored guard.
He got out and doffed the prison attire, running in his boxers. Told a cop who stopped him that he was in training for some race or something... and was on the lam for years. 😂 EDIT: In the service of accuracy lol: Just watched the Al J____ YT piece I partially heard earlier today as a podcast. Not years on the lam. About a week. 🎉
your probably American anyway, am I right? Im not saying all Americans have a skewed perception of justice but from an outsiders eyes its just not humane.
1:48 How you gonna be standing there and watch eight guys in front of you scream for their lives and they say, Oh, great! It's my turn...lemme se the belt!" On the real I would have said f*ck that sh*t" and walked away even if I was the # 2 guy. I'd be like "I don;t want this job THAT much. You gots me f*cked up what the hell is wrong with them. Some of those cat really got in to it.it's those beer belly prison sherrif's chance to touch in to their feminine side and be a Thespian. ha ha
Hahaha, you may never see this but that's exActly what I was thinkin'. Obviously something wrong with these dudes. I took and aced the NYS test back in the '70s. Just the rigamarole they put you through (knocking your neighbors' doors, psych testing, etc) made me say "Aw hEll no!" Incidentally years later a psychologist friend told me that the bell curve on these tests for cops/guards is exactly the same as criminals. 🎉
@valleygirl11able hey valley girl.... and i know your first name, this message makes no sense to me now. you said to me in our e-mails that you never met him, and here you say you have been to see him all the time.. wow, im really buggin now...lol..... get back when you can...
Yes I am and more to the point a Texan. You and quite possibly your misguided European friends think this is harsh but we don't. More ever this is our system and this is how we chose to deal with criminal hard cases such as this. I also support the death penalty.
