Robert Townsend and Keenan Ivory Wayans were way ahead of their time. I remember watching Robert Townsend and his Partners in Crime on HBO as a kid. If you can find them some of the best comedy you'll see and alot of black comedians came up from that. BEFORE Def Comedy Jam
Meeting Robert Townsend in person in Californoa years ago was such a pleasure. He is the same authentic and compassionate man in person. One of my heroes that didn't hurt my heart to meet at all!
Every time I look at some of the selections on TUBI's Black film collection, I'm reminded that... "Hollywood Shuffle" ...is just as relevant today as it was when it was released.
Robert Townsend is a legend in the movie , sitcom game him n Keenan. Robert Townsend was in Cooley High!!! 1975 one of the funniest movies about teens growing up in the hood! Lawrence Hilton Jacob’s was in it before “Welcome back Carter” Glyn Turman is an icon from movies/ tv shows of the 70’s up until the 90’s in A different World!!! Love Robert he always has a moral n comedic expression to his films n sitcoms. 🤩🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🔥
Townsend goes as far back as Cooley High. He had a small part in the high school gym accusing Cochese and Glen Thurman of snitching on Stone and Robert.
Toure really doesn't get it most of the time. The internal racism depicted in A Soldier's Story is one of many manifestations of racism in general. It's not a separate, self-inflicted, mysterious form of racism. It's not "look at what we do to ourselves", it's "look at another of the many ways racism impacts us." Had racism not been imposed upon us, that sort of internal conflict would not occur. It's disappointing that those who are continually given platforms tend to have the lowest level of understanding.
I agree, Touré’s point works against Chris Rock’s “niggas vs ‘respectable’ black people” joke (who he ironically praises) but not the plot of Soldier’s Story.
@perfekt4t I was like ... UGH!! He just finished gloating about being a fan and then places Chris Rock in Hollywood Shuffle ??? ...SMH. How embarrassing.
Robert Townsend ❤ Glad you moved on the low. Got in and got out. You peeped game and maneuvered right around the weirdos 😄 🙌🏾 Toure 😫 Beloved! 🤦🏽♀️ Hollywood Shuffle is a Classic 🎯
Been a fan of Robert Townsend since seeing him do stand-up comedy from his HBO comedy appearances and Evening at the Improv on TV. Then came some movie appearances, leading up to "Hollywood Shuffle," which I've seen 26 times in a (now gone) movie theater in Bloomfield, NJ. I wanted to get a fan letter to him, and got in touch with the late James Brown, a librarian at the Newark Public Library, who knew the writer, Richard Wesley, and Mr. Brown gave my fan letter to Mr. Wesley, who was kind enough to forward my letter to Mr. Townsend. A month or so later, I got an envelope from Mr. Townsend in which he sent me an autographed picture and a "Hollywood Shuffle" T-shirt. I've kept up with his career, and wish him nothing but the best and look forward to seeing his future projects--especially if he gets to do his one-man show on (or off) Broadway!
Denzel’s first movie was Carbon Copy and it was a comedy based upon race. He was the illegitimate Black son to a now married White man and the family of course wouldn’t accept Denzel.
I was given the movie 'The spook by the door' from the writer of the book in the streets of Chicago for a hi, and a hug. Movie changed my life as well.
This is a treat. I have been told by white folks that I resemble Mr. Townsend😂. I always take it as a compliment. Much gratitude for the impact you have had on my life sir. I would love to have a meal with you. I just found this channel. I’m hooked. Thanks to the both of you extremely talented men.
