After watching these guys play I no longer have any illusions of been a good player. Ronnie is just brilliant, his vision of the game there's no other, positioning and the speed he plays at is truely special . . . Legend 🙏🔥🙏
Robertson is a true gentleman and has good sportsmanship (2:03:40 / 3:37:32). Doesn't matter what other people think of Robertson. End of the day win or lose everyone is happy and smiling.
This tournament had a decent media team - in that the presenter used to be a Welsh version of Jeff Stelling from Sky - you had Willie Thorne being his usual mischivious self, Darren Morgan is basically sane and then this utterly bizarre and one-off humane human in Dominic Dale, who is just dynamite in the commentary box and beyond amusing generally. Dominic Dale says after Robertson pots a blue and canons the small cluster - 'that has gone about as wrong as he could of ever expected' - whereupon Robertson has a red to the middle or a thin cut red to the corner bag, Dale is the character that snooker and World seemingly does not recognise, nor specsavers who might care to sign him up.
Robertson defeated himself really and ronnie won below his best. If a player fouls - he calls the foul on himself in snooker because they are an honest bunch generally, that is quite different from Robertson warning ronnie he will lose for 3 misses which was absurd and Robertson has no business saying anything in that situation and the referee was at fault. Also, if you notice that ronnie plays shots or turns down shots out of respect of his opponents capabilities, which i think is noteworthy. Robertson if at his peak as Griffiths and Willies says is supreme and i think a massive under achiever. Also, i began to think during the match about just how many top players Wales has produced after Griffiths and Morgan cited the youngsters coming through the junior and lower pro ranks. It is remarkable really that a tiny place like Wales has had a 6 time world champion in Reardon, then Williams and Griffiths and loads of nearly men all under achievers in varying ways. Ryan Day was a top player andMichael White was very good and Stevens was the same and Morgan was a tough match player leftie and obviously Dale is nuts, but intelligent and a total anorak type who knows the game so well and can play and clearly others also younger of the new generation and so i think this is a decent tournament but the balance between the commentators and pundits was special to me and Dale is just genuinely bizarre and i just think he and willie were incredible by being so authentic and blunt and clearly Dale needs specsavers at times also. Griffiths is a learned man as well and poetic in some ways and generally snooker folk smash down stereotypes people are fed about people from different parts of the country and i like that and i value the unassuming media coverage of this event that might have poor viewers but is for real snooker admirers who know their stuff and i think bigger tournaments clearly need a bigger presentation package overall and you get that on the BBC often with the World certainly. My favourite pundits and commentators in snooker is nearly all of them as the standard is so high on knowledge but also comedic value, as Dale provides in abundance and also, i think McManus is class and so snooker does that side of sport better than most.
