Donahue Talk Show with guest Robin Williams from 1989. Also features an 18 year old Ethan Hawke. This was found recorded on an old VHS tape with family videos.
Phil kept trying to corner Robin in a deeper conversation, and Robin wasn't having it. It is so interesting that a person so extroverted to the world, was extremely introverted and not to be uncovered in deeper senses. Robin did indeed possess a sense of humility, and I can't get enough of him lately. He was--and still is--a gem
2 things: Robin's laugh bursting out at high pitch like steam under pressure 😂 I love it. And Robin rushing over to the boys after the whole awkward scene with them standing really far apart was heartwarming
Watched this for Robin, but cool to see teen Ethan Hawke. Surprised he didn't mention Explorers. I still love to re-watch that movie every so many years.
16:03 in 1989 Ethan Hawke was already considered an up & coming actor, even i knew who he was at the time. I would have freaked out if i was in that audience ! 1989 Dead Poet's Society (w/ Robin Williams) 1989 Dad (w/ Jack Lemmon & Ted Danson) 1988 Lion's Den ( w/ director Bryan Singer) 1985 Explorers (w/ River Phoenix)
I am so overwhelmed w/ Robin's love for the arts. I could watch him no matter what; whether it be, his skilled outward performance, or his indepth cause and effect w/ serious thought as to why he is or is not comparable w/ others... you name it and I could go all day w/ this superb human being. What a beautiful person Robin is to me.. thanks, I miss him.
I love this, and all those boys from Dead Poet Society are so polite and fun, and then the girl from the movie is just so modest, and is grateful to God for her success. We need more of this today! Thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for this!! It is wonderful to see something new with Robin. This was at a great time in his life and he was so happy. It was sad to hear the one question from the audience on what Robin was doing to be around a long time like Milton Berle. LBD is such a horrible disease!!! I wish Robin was still here - he would have been 65 next month. He lives on in all of us that enjoy his comedy and acting.
"thought can have a point without having a lot of sin on it" miss the hell out of him - could you imagine being a part of this cast and having Robin effing Williams admire you as an inspired start young actor/artist...???? and laughing at your comments? Their delivery was professional in this film, but the chemistry between the boy actors seems like it must've been an amazing experience.
22:30 Robin says he lives in San Francisco and will live there until the “big one”. This film clip is from 1989 which is the year SF had the Loma Prieta Quake.
What a great couple of years this was for him. Dead Poets Society and Awakenings. He almost did Midnight Run with De Niro. Can't take anything away from Charles Grodin's deadpan genius in that, but it would have been interesting with Robin as well.
I remember watching this on tv! Was a big fan of both Phil and Robin! Actually was able to be on the show when he was still in Chicago and was hoping there would be someone exciting as a guest and it turned out to be Harry Reems, the male lead in Deep Throat! I mean what do you ask someone like that! Would have preferred Robin!
Do you mind if I ask where you get these old episodes of the Donahue sho? I’m trying to look for an episode that aired in 1989. It’s called “wilding” episode it talks about the rape in glen ridge . I’m trying to use a snippet for research
@@LynxSouth maybe because there are tons of people going into acting but you really need someone whos willing to "hold you up" so to speak until you can pay for things yourself like rent, food, utilities, its a lot.. Most people wind up having to take regular jobs to make ends meet and never are able to keep going and land the work they want. Having a wealthy parent helps and it looked like his Mom was behind him 100% from what I remember him saying.
Jim Carey is shadow of him, he done things smoothly, we never know when he gonna get possessed.... Jim carey grear too, but i love robbie more because he relate everything will real life...
Looking at this, I realise how intimidated most people are these days, living in this tech bubble alone. I think he did, in a bubble trying to amuse, but deeply serious about so many things - tortured by his fame (the expectations of others) in the end.
