He was a great Popeye. I feel like that movie was unfairly maligned. I love it.

Robin knows what 1930s Popeye was capable off, especially the snarky mutterings!

Maybe it's just me but when he makes the comment that getting to know the real him is like opening pandora's box and then exclaiming "no pandora, dont open the box!" Sent chills down my spine, because I realized from that comment that even then, in the prime of his life, Robin was depressed.... sad how true the old statement is, "hindsight is 20/20."

In the 1940s when the voice actor who did Popeye in the Fleischer cartoons was in the army, Mae Questel who was the voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl also did the voice of Popeye.

The man was so spontaneously witty. I read that in his earlier stand-ups he would just get up on stage and start shooting from the hip. No topic cards, nothing. Simply amazing.

He was a real comic. He had a quick wit about him and the ability to do an almost instant improv that I don't see in a lot of comedians

Popey cartoons were good, but the movie was a musical. Not good.

Robin was my hero growing up when he did Popeye. I was a huge fan of the cartoon, the movie, I had the Popeye album, a game and lunchbox. RIP Robin and thanks for being a part of my childhood.

I thought he was perfectly cast as Popeye, even got the little mutterings Jack Mercer always slipped in. Not his fault Robert Altman was the last person who should have directed the film....
