That scene was awesome, but how about the one where he grabs Matt Damon by the throat and threatens to kill him? Also the "It's not your fault?" scene. Damn, Williams was just plain great in that movie.
Robin could have lived for 10,000 years and we wouldn't have seen the full breadth of his abilities. Truly one of the most gifted actors/comedians ever.
I agree lets make sure our kids and grandkids see all his movies and comedies. Because there is no one like him, will probably never be another one like him in our lifetimes. He was unique, beloved and an infinitely special "being"
it was only later in his life that he developped a sickness... in the early 2000. He was not depressed all his life and depression was not the main problem.
The most poetic thing: Billy Cristal on stage watching his dear friend receiving the Oscar. And that final hug speaks volumes. We miss you, Robin. So much.
Many people don't know this, but Robin Williams took a major pay cut to do this role. He thought it was that important and valuable to do. Not only was he an amazing actor and comedian... he was a true humanitarian who cared about helping people through movies like Good Will Hunting (life-changing movie). RIP Robin.. you are so loved and appreciated and very much missed...
I always liked Robin Williams much more as an actor than as a comedian. I thought his true talents were in acting. His style of comedy was far too manic, for my taste. Sure, he was talented, but that kind of comedy never appealed to me much. But that says more about me than him. Obviously, many people loved his comedy.
Not disputing this. He got about 3 million up front. Once it did well though he got about another 20 million in royalties. But it's still a big risk to take as you never know when a movie will bomb or not. Good on him.
And he knew the importance of letting him give his speech first...not rushing in to share the spotlight... but letting the man have his moment before sharing it
@@thomasmagnum3588 100% agreed. Reynolds knew it would be his only chance to ever win an Oscar. Tough timing when you are up against another incredible performance and someone has to lose.
Very sweet and so very hard to comprehend the loss of such a genuine soul. Someone posted he should of received an award for all the laughter he brought to the WORLD and I would agree.
@@HomicidalTh0r I am sad, but I am more sad for my children because they will never get to be excited for that new Robin Williams movie coming to the theaters. It was something I was able to experience, but sadly they never will.
He died on his own terms. He was losing one of the only things that matter😢 his body . Who would wish that back, especially if his mind was unaffected, yet so troubled. Trapped in a useless body with no way for his over exuberant mind to find release.
Anyone who’s on a Robin Williams binge, you are awesome and we can all be friends. We love you Robin. P.S My favourite bit of this was how proud Billy was for him.
We love you Robin- u could have won the award for all your roles! Finally, you got what u long deserved! I will remember and love you forever, you made us laugh, you made us cry! RIP
Hello, friend. Yes, I am on a Robin William's binge, again, and that moment will always be one that makes me gasp for air, with tears falling. Gets me every time.
@Ad Max Couldn't agree more, they had a real love for each other, don't know how Billy was able to restrain himself . Brought a few tears to my eyes, especially watching this now, with Robin gone. Cheers mate :)
It’s 2023 and I miss him now as much as I ever did. I’m sure anyone born in the 70s-80s feels the same. From Mork & Mindy to Aladdin to Night at the Museum and everything in between, he was a cultural treasure that defined most of my life. He was such a generous soul and I’ll never forget getting glow sticks instead of candy for Halloween at his house - safety first. I just hope his family finds solace in knowing we appreciate him almost as much as they did.
Good Will Hunting was my favorite. He was truly a master at making people feel the moment. What depth in acting... What a wonderful caring human being. The Birdcage is another one I also love. Of course Mrs. Doubtfire. The Fisher King. Good Morning Vietnam. My husband and I had the privilege of seeing him perform live. It was with David Steinburg. It was about a year before he died. It was an upfront and personal account of their experiences together, etc. We were so lucky to have had that experience. RIP Robin... ❤ We all miss you... If there is a heaven then we will all get to see you again. 😊 How lucky are the people in heaven getting to laugh because of Robin. ❤
After seeing Robin Williams' documentary and learning how deeply Billy Crystal and Robin loved each other, that hug hits so hard. My eyes are welling up.
Robin Williams is the epitome of the phrase, "He was beloved." Lovely man. He used to live in my neighborhood, the Castro, in San Francisco and just smiled and nodded to everyone as he passed them. He was just a guy, no airs, no pretentiousness.
As they're naming the nominees you can hear people applauding but when Robin's name comes up, you hear people cheering loudly for a moment. He was definitely loved by a lot of his peers. They wanted him to win that night and simply exploded when he did. What a beautiful moment of love. We miss you Robin. We always will.
The beautiful irony of Robin williams is he was both one of the greatest iconic comedians and he was also one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time. His versatlity was extraordinary, and his ability to literally become the role he was playing was done effortlessly and he was able to tap into the emotional energy of each role he played. His off the cuff creativity enabled him to perform roles without simply reciting lines on a script, but he performed each role from the depths of his soul. 'The smartest thing any producer or director could do was briefly paint the overview of the scen and then get the hell out of the way and let Robin Williams paint a masterpiece on the canvass of cinema. Finally, why do I get the feeling Robin Williams would have acted and create comedy even if he made only minimum wage, he did it for the love the art, it was literally who he was, and perhaps aspects of his depression was he was able to ecape the realities of this cruel world in the performance of his craft and he also took all of us fans with him on his epic odyssey.
Those two were a pair of brilliant, genuine best friends. And from the way Billy Crystal talks about Williams now, it's clear that he lost a part of himself when Robin died.
Daniel Crowe Yes, that connection is rare. Just once in my life, if only for a moment, to connect with someone like that...that is my entire bucket list.
All of the nominees that year were Oscar-wnning performances, no doubt about that, but they stood no chance against Robin's performance in Good Will Hunting. His performance was simply perfection.
While I truly love Robin in this film, Burt Reynolds had won almost all the other awards up to this point. I feel he deserved it that year, as the role's character was much more of a stretch. You could see how disappointed he was. It's sad he never got his Oscar. But also hard not to embrace Robin's happiness too.
What a tough year this was. Greg Kinnear was spectacular, and I absolutely love Robert Forster's performance. And I haven't even mentioned Burt Reynolds. (This wasn't going to be Anthony Hopkins' year.) But just to be clear, Robin Williams absolutely deserved to win.
Cold Winter it was one of those years where almost every performance nominated was truly deserving of the award, I’m happy with Williams winning but honestly I would be with any of the nominees, and I say this as a massive PTA fan.
March 2023: Seeing this, made my heart sing. He was just a good dude from the SF bay area who was a Mozart in his own right. Him giving Crystal a hug shows the genuine love of the spoken word. I miss you MORK....
Accepting to take on a role in a movie directed by two "kids" was amazing. Receiving the Academy Award brought tears to my eyes because I truly miss Robin.
Matt and Ben came up with the film and wrote the script… Gus Van Sant directed it but yes I know what you mean and I agree 💯 and it’s amazing that all 3 of them won Oscar’s for it. Imagine being Matt or Ben at this time…. As KIDS coming up with one of the best movies/scripts ever at such a young age and winning Oscar’s for it. Just incredible. And getting to work with Robin Williams. Just amazing
Maybe not the *only* As a late 80’s millennial, Robin Williams and Fred Rogers were my earliest examples of who I want to be, and what I want to put forth into the world. I fall SO, so short of that, in more instances than not, but I can hear their words (both scripted and otherwise) in the back of my mind. Reminding me, always, that I, too, am only human. I miss them both dearly, despite only ever knowing them through a screen
Saw Robin at the Comedy Store in LA once around 1980. When someone makes you laugh so hard that tears roll down your face and you can't breathe you never forget. Saw him again 1991 at a book store in my home town. At the time he was filming the movie Toys. Speaking with him was such a interesting and enjoyable conversation. He was a humble, kind and friendly person.
I am so glad he won and that his friend Billy Crystal was there to share this moment with him. Battling depression is battle that is never ending, but when ever I remember that he is gone and it makes me sad, I look at this clip and know that there were moments in his life that he experienced true happiness. I will miss him.
I lead a very full life, surrounded by many loving people. Yet it is hard to express how empty the world has felt to me at times since Robin Williams died. He left a great void in the happiness continuum and I still miss him very much. 😢
No words . Yes the room shook , erupted . I’m in film biz . Watching Oscar’s since 1967. I weep every time I watch this . His utter joy for that one nano second . Priceless .
flyhound97 what a disrespectful and disgusting comment, Rest In Peace to all those amazing actors and people. Much unlike Harvey, do not include him here
flyhound97 You made an insensitive comment on purpose. I doubt he knew of all the horrible crimes Harvey was capable of, any rumors that had been around were only of him being hitting on women not actual rape. Thank god he’s getting locked up now and gonna get what he deserves. Ur comment was still gross and unnecessary
To see just how incredibly happy and honored he was in this moment both warms and breaks my heart. He was the one gift we didn't deserve. RIP Robin Williams. 🙏🏽🙏🏽💙💜
Why did we not deserve him? Of course we did...he was loved, admired, millions loved his work and cried at his passing. Without us to enjoy his work, he wouldn't have had a career. We most definitely deserved him and I'm so thankful to have enjoyed his work and talent for years...since his Mork & Mindy days.
what I liked best about this whole moment is Billy Crystal. He and Robin are the best of friends and you can tell Billy just wants to run up and congratulate him. But he stayed back as so not to invade the spotlight from Robin. A class act and a true friend.
The most beautiful part of this, is that he got to hug is friend. The friend that knows him best. Beautiful. Robin deserved an oscar way before this. Legend
There are certain movies that just floor ya. And this is one. Thank you Matt & Ben & Robin! Two of you wrote it, but the third one Made it! God bless you all. RIP Robin. I want to say more, but I have not the words.
To this day I can't visualize anyone else delivering the speech on the bench at the duck pond the way Robin did in the movie. I still recall the first time I saw the movie and thinking during the scene, "That's an Oscar-winning performance right there." We lost a brilliant, talented man when Robin left us. He was a rare breed that could bring us to tears with both his frenetic comedy and his dramatic acting.
the man wasn’t only a dream to audiences, directors, fellow actors, inspired young filmmakers and people all over the world… he also delivered an acceptance speech that was short and tight and probably made the producers of the Oscars very happy because he came in under time… he was swift, charming, and loveable in maybe the fewest words ever said on that stage. What an immeasurable legend!

He was genuinely proud of this. It was so lovely to see him barely able to crack a joke for once! Although, I reckon Billy Crystal was possibly even more proud of him. Flippin' lovely video.
Robin was outrageously funny as he was tickling all of our hearts, but it was his acting at serious moments which really touched our souls. From Patch Adams, to Sean Maguire in Goodwill Hunting, to John Keating in Dead Poets Society, to his HBO Specials, Robin was just spectacular. RIP Sir.
That scene of them in the park is probably the best acting I've ever seen, and I can relate to it so much, you were a blessing on this earth Robin. RIP
Those words were written by. Matt Damien..and delivered word fir word only as Robin could...tears to my eyes .when that movie came out I still hadn't finished grieving for my husband...I guess I never will.
If a place like heaven exists, Robin is there. Of all the people on this earth throughout history, he deserves that. He's given so many people a light in the deepest of the darkness. Even if the light wasn't there for him, he made it for others. Thank you Robin.
His brilliance will never be repeated. I am so terribly honoured to have lived in the era where I got to see not only this man's comedic genius at work but also his outstanding talent as a serious, dramatic actor. RIP Robin Williams and thank you!
Beauty comes in many forms, and Robin Williams is one such form. I feel lucky to have been alive at the same time he was. From Mork&Mindy all the way through to Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society... oh the list is too long but the memories are cherished. He was a beautiful, wonderful actor and I hope he is at peace now.
Robin Williams could make you laugh, or cry. He suffered with Parkinson disease. He was only 63 years old. There should be movie of his life. I first saw Robin Williams on Johnny Carson was very funny.
