i made a mirror which i can set the resolution and distance at which it sees. in the video i set it at 25 by 25, distance to 50 and fps to 20. it uses ray casting by the way if you want to make your own :P
As unoptimized as this is in the Roblox engine, especially for a Lua compiler, this is a good illustration of how a raytracing rendering algorithm works, albeit raytracing runs absolutely horribly in real time however.
It's easy to make, but how does urs not lag? I know mine's like 3 times as big as urs or so, but still, the pixel size and update rate is about the same.
As soon as I saw it I literally said outloud "...Raycasting..." and I scrolled down to the description and read "It uses raycasting by the way" I'm so good! XD
I think I found the model. www.roblox.com/library/969458495/mirrors-script Just put it in the starter gui and name the part that you want to reflect "Mirror" and have it's reflectance on 1. Hope that helps.
Cool! But, have you ever considered making the SurfaceGuis local, and taking the camera's position into account, so that it can act more like a "true" mirror?
Imagine a laser pointed at a mirror; if the laser starts toward the side of the mirror, it bounces off at the same angle it went in on. On here, it's as if the light bounces off perpendicular to the mirror no matter where you're viewing it from. ThatOneBobert yeah that would be a very different code than what this mirror uses. i dont think i could make that until i read up on reflection and stuff. you've just given me something new to do on roblox :P
