Erick Greene and his team employ "roboraptors"-taxidermied hawks and owls with robotic moving parts- to learn about how birds communicate with alarm calls when a predator is nearby. For more: www.allaboutbi... Film by Chris Foito
How long do you wait before covering upt the roboraptor again? Because obviously its prolonged pressence would make the other birds more stressed and that's no good.
that's awesome. I actually got to see it happen with a real raptor. A northern harrier had made a kill in my yard which I got to see(wish I had a camera ready at the time). Two days later I saw him being chased off by a large murder of crows.
+Becky Gay today I came home and saw two large sand hill cranes in my back yard. I got to observe them for 10 minutes before a crow showed up and had his way with them. Neat to see them take flight and trumpet at the crow chasing them.
Yeah I have heard and seen this myself but with crows and blue jays, the jays scream and alarms go off then I see the crows then the jays chase the crows out of my yard. But I want the crows so I keep putting food out for them. But I put food out for many birds. The cardinals always eat in pairs the male usually comes first and calls for his mate.
