Hey, I just want to say keep doing what you’re doing. I actually bought the VERTEX Duo Pro cordless and Stratos cordless Shark and the Shark self emptying bin robot because of your reviews. Thank you. About the RoboRock robot. It’s very good but like a lot of us agree the bag is a doozy and their price is so expensive. Not to mention that replacement parts and filters will cost a lot. Suggestions: I would add a new comparison on price of replacement parts like battery, filters and brushes. I think if you compare this part all of us can form our own opinionated choices. I think this should be added as part of the price point for consumer buying decisions. However, your reviews are still on point and I am a live testimonial person that admits that your reviews are what makes me make wise decisions in purchasing vaccums and bots. Thank you!
I got the Q Revo and returned it now using the S8: The raising mop isn't really that much a difference, because the spinning mop seems thicker and especially when its wet The dock on the Q Revo is much better, it charge at the back so the robot don't need to back in to wash and then turn around to charge and the cable management at the back is much better Tank design is also better on the Q Revo, the cover open full length and stay open, unlike the S8 only open half and still need to hold it to keep it open I always clean up my floor before sending the robot out, so the obstacle avoidance isn't much an issue for me, but the Q Revo does seems react a little bit slower to stuff The major reason for me to switch to S8 is the mop, the spinning mop seems leave very noticeable mark on my tile and it is actually narrower; the Q Revo spin on the plastic to clean the mop, it should last a lot longer than the others, but I found out the dirty does trap at that plastic tray a lot and very hard to clean The material on the S8 dock feels higher quality, although it has a smaller tank, but S8 seems use less water when mopping, so refilling frequency seems same to me For those who don't leave stuff on the floor, the Q Revo is really the best deal, it really does perform the same on mopping and vacuuming, but if you leave a lot of stuff on the floor than S8 is the way I moved from old Roomba 980 + m6, so not matter what I'm happy, it takes less than hour to mop and vacuum my house now compare to 4+ hrs 🥲 However, I do miss my m6 mop, cause I feel the m6 still perform better on mopping, even the j7+ combo seems better than the S8; but iRobot's mapping and navigation is so disappointed
@@ufsta for most of the dirt it works fine, I do full house run once a week, and has it clean the high traffic area few times during the week, you can always set the mode to clean harder; the only thing that it can't clean is those black dirty spot from shoe that stick on the floor, that will still need to mop by hand it clean and map the house very fast with the LIDAR system, so you can just ask it to run and clean every time you spot dirt, if you have stuff that can't clean off my hand then no robot can clean those stains off, it is still and robot, can't apply that much pressure compare to your hand
If you have to choose between Q Revo or S7 Max Ultra what would you choose? I have a Roomba 698 only, but with two very young kids (1 and 3 years) it is big mess every day, which I should clean, but often I dont have a time for it with my wife (work and after it we spend a time with kids). Mostly this mess is in the living room which is dining room too, in the kitchen and in the hall (~60 m2). But I wish to clean also (but less often) the other rooms on this floor (totaly on the first floor is ~90m2) and once a week second floor in my house (another ~90m2). My house floors are mixed with pcv panels and ceramic tiles. No carpets excepts of this small in bathrooms, which is easy to take over and hide for cleaning. S7 Max Ultra is 15% more expensive in my country than Q Revo. Thank you in advance for your suggestion.
@@Maniaks6I will say S7 if you have a lot of stuff need to avoid, the Q Revo is missing some sensors, not ideal if you have many stuff on the floor, especially kids toys; I moved from and old Roomba + m6 mop, the time you saved is huge, even though I think the m6 still mop better, but you are looking at 1/4 of the time
@@ybing I always cleaning floors from toys and any other stuff, which place is not on the floor :) Is S7 better in something else than Q Revo in your opinion?
SEE UPDATE AT END: Just got a Q Revo and will be returning it. Was very excited about it however it has constant problems with the auto emptying feature clogging. It also does not pick up things that you would think it would pick up and in the hallway where I have a runner down the hallway with hardwood underneath, it tends to deposit dust bars . Was also very excited about the rotating round mops thinking that would be most effective compared to the vibrating mops and I can't really say that they do a fantastic job. The unit does get high points for the mop cleaning and drying feature that it has. Also noticed that when there's Hardwoods underneath rugs, the unit will get half on the carpet half off the carpet. It turns on the mops and because of the angle of the unit the mopping basically is useless on the hardwood as sufficient contact isn't made w the hardwood floor. And because it's using water for mopping, the carpet can get slightly damp as the unit thinks it's on hardwood. You would think the algorithm would allow it to go back and position itself so it is squarely on the hardwood so that the mopping would be effective with it maneuvering on hardwood completely rather than being half on hardwood, half on rug... of course there are times there's not enough space between wall and rug to allow it to do that but in the places where there is, that trajectory would be preferable. It appears you get a lot for the money and you can't beat the price but I have just been disappointed. Having reviewed some of the other brands it is my inclination to get a higher-end model in another brand and forgo the mopping feature and just have the vacuuming and auto emptying option. While the mopping feature is fantastic for tile not sure I trust nice hardwood floors to the robotic mopping if it were to use too much water on Hardwoods . The app does allow for you to adjust the water usage in the mopping phase but you almost need to be able to do that based on floor type. However you can rig it by programming a separate schedule for your tile floor rooms and then you can set the water usage on mopping to high for those runs. Guess I should also give props to the app because it does have quite a bit of functionality. UPDATE: MY OPINION IS COMPLETELY REVERSED. Come to find out when I did the full clean it was just too much dirt I guess in my house for it to handle it what I ended up doing was programming a schedule and do a couple of rooms at the time two or three rooms at the time or do the full house but do them as task two rooms under one task two rooms under a different task two rooms under another task and if you do that the Revo will go back and empty after each task. NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH IT CLOGGING. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PRODUCT
Love all your content and reviews! Something that would be nice is rating the company's customer service. We bought a Roborock S7 when it came out. A few months later it started having issues (Fully believe it was a lemon). I had to have it "fixed" multiple times by them. But it would be sent back and still be broken. Long story short- It is now out of warranty and unusable. Roborock has some of the best robot vacuum out there. But they have the worst customer service I've ever delt with (I'm not the only one). I feel like if someone spends $1000+ on a product the least a company could do is have good customer support.
The flip side of that is I have had the same Roborock vacuum for 7 years without issue. I don’t want to use customer service at all, they all suck. I want the most reliable vacuum. Like you said sounds like you got a lemon.
And I have an s6 pure, when the lidar went(after warranty ran out) out all I had to do was order a new lidar unit, cost me $80. ALL the main systems in all the roborock models are modular plug and play pieces. All I had to do was look up a tutorial and I had my unit open dropped in the new lidar and had it closed up and ready to go again in 5 minutes.
I actually had a pretty great experience w/ Roborock customer service. My sensor went out, they helped me debug the issue, and gave me a link to order one for cheap ($30) on aliexpress since I was out of warranty. No bs and they followed up w/ me every few days until the issue was sorted
@@zerosandones701 I'm glad you had a great experience with the company. I unfortunately did not. My issues were pushed off until my robot was out of warranty. I have since bought a Dreame L20 and LOVE it. I haven't had to deal with customer service yet. But the AI is making it so there is a lot less wear and tear on the the robot. HIGHLY recommend them- I also bought an extended warranty with Amazon so should have it for +4 years
Please add floor-to-ceiling windows and mirrors to the test suite - these vacuums have issues with those, thinking they're a giant extension of the room, and keep trying to bump into them like a fly. Adding a no-go zone or a virtual wall helps side-step the issue, but the map is still messed up.
@@jt4326 Yeah, I think most folks know. The point is to use sensor fusion and not jump to conclusions from lidar alone. A lidar may think a floor to ceiling mirror is a symmetrical whole other room, a floor to ceiling window is an infinite expanse, and a floor to ceiling curtain is a solid object. All of these can be easily identified and resolved by cross-referencing with other sensors the unit already has. Same thing with furniture. I've several arm chairs which I've dutifully put in the map, and roborock marks (I should say mars) their locations with little obstacle "cones" when they're nudged slightly. The thing should understand the idea that the object it knows is relatively small, and user marked as a chair, can move. Same with the concept of a door - it may be closed or opened, it's not a change in the map.
To add to this: when the map gets messed up in this way, there is *no way to fix it*. If you want the robot to stop thinking there's another room between your walls, you have to reset the entire map and make sure to keep something in front of the mirror so the vacuum can't see it. This has probably been my biggest gripe with my S7 Max V Ultra.
@@forresthopkinsaInteresting. Just about to buy either a S7 Max Ultra or a Q Revo, but we have large glass doors on two walls of our main living area. I wonder, if we tape cardboard to the glass or cover it in some other way during the initial mapping process, will we then get a decent map & be ok from then on? Or will the glass doors still cause issues during future cleaning jobs even if they are 'outside' the map?
Hey thanks for getting this comparison posted!!! Target has the S7 Max Ultra minus $300 for everyone. And then there’s a “targeted” target circle promo of 5-20% more off. Mine luckily was 20% more off and with red card an additional 5% more off…it came to $759. A steal to me. Love Roborock. My S5max will be moved to the basement.
Hey Chris, I think you might have a hole in your testing. Some other channels are observing a dramatic difference in obstacle avoidance performance when on carpet vs when on hard floors. RGB camera systems seem to keep most of their performance, where the directed light systems of the s8, etc. just absolutely fall apart. I’ve also experienced this with the s8- on carpet it’s a nightmare and gobbles up objects much more than even my s5 did. My s7 maxv is just night and day better in these conditions. Thinking it was a bad unit I replaced it, but both s8 units behaved the same. Any chance of looking into this?
How about making a weight based test for mopping? You spill a liquid with a certain amount of solids in in, let it dry up, mop it and then boil the dirty water from the dirty water tank, to see how much of the solids were cleaned off of the pads after one cleaning. Then weight the dried rags itself, to see how much dirty they retained vs the floor.
I think one advantage of the double brush roll on the S8 you didn’t give credit for, is for pet hair. The double roll in theory should handle pet hair better and experience less tangles.
Agree that the Q Revo would be a slam dunk if not for the obstacle avoidance 'issue'. I'm really wondering if it's even possible for it to be improved through software updates or if there's just something about the hardware that that prevents it from ever being improved. Would be nice if we could ever get a comment about this topic from Roborock.
Prob a different version of linux/different platform. The P series (Q REVO IS a P10) has always been denoted to a lower end platform. Starting with the P5 which became S4 MAX. S5 MAX, S6 PURE in global markets.. P5 was sold cheap in china and carried a lower warranty. Relative to the real models T4/T6/S50 having better build/features/warranty.
Makes sense, but is there any evidence then that any of the other previous P-series bots performed better with obstacles than the Q Revo? Or does the Q Revo perform better than previous P-series? On par? @@jamesdeluxa9782
Amazon reviews say these don't sense when bin is full. It empties dustbin only after cleaning so some folks make a complex set of schedules with each room as its own schedule so the bin will empty after completing each schedule (i.e. after each room), otherwise the robot bin fills up too fast. Your thoughts?
S7 for almost a year. First Robo Vac and not impressed with the suction, mop capability or customer service. Stopped running for 6 months due to house changing too much and it couldn’t handle furniture and boxes being moved, kept getting lost and making random maps. I do run it daily now. It’s 3-4 hours to clean 1700 sqft. Love the vacuum lines it leaves. Refill the water every 2 days. Empty the dirty water every 4 days. Vacuum bags last 1 week. Map is a lot of work. Use no go zones for carpets it can’t handle, base of floor lamps, stands, mats, furniture it gets stuck under. False walls to help it out. Sometimes during a clean it will say it’s blocked and can’t reach a spot, then quit and go home. I pickup for each clean. I’m not sure what it avoids in real life. It eats all cords, fabric, pet toys. lol it even ran into my dog.
What cleaning solution (if any) do you use in your robot? The only cleaner roborock has containes tea tree oil and I'd like to avoid using something that can make my pets sick if someone puts too much in. Their Q/A on the Amazon page is pretty useless, they just tell you to use theirs or water and refuse to suggest an alternative.
We are looking at that one as well as a handful of new releases now, so the initial reviews will be coming out one at a time starting next week. Thank you for asking.
We are looking at the new Dreametech now! We have a handful of new robot vacuums right now, so the reviews will be coming out one at a time starting next week. Thank you for asking.
@@VacuumWars I cannot thank you enough! You are the only one that I can trust for vacuums and robots, and your in-depth nearly scientific approach of testing them and comparing them makes making a/the best decision so much easier. Keep going!
I'm sad they got rid of the camera in the newer models. I'm a big fan of remote piloting my S7 MaxV Ultra to yell at family members and spy on my pets.
For those of use wanting to shop for a new robot vacuum, I really want a flagship only comparison. Seems like S8 Pro Ultra may be a solid choice, but also is iRobot out of the game, how does its latest release of vacuums hold up to Roborock?
Do you think its possible that roborock is deliberately putting lesser software for obstacle avoidance on the Q5 revo to make up for the higher price of the S7/S8?
I just bought a Q Revo for Black Friday and after seeing some of these glowing reviews I am kinda disappointed with it. Navigation and features are more advanced than the Roomba S9 I had. Mopping is great, however the vacuuming isn't. I changed the suction level to the highest setting but it did not pick up pine needles and hairballs from our pets. The vacuum roller mouth is too narrow and got stuck with just a small leaf and half a pistachio shell it found under the table. Made a terrible grinding noise. The Roomba would have taken longer to get around but at least it cleaned decently. 😪 I am thinking the dual rollers may be better for larger debris so might try the RR S8.
My wife's boyfriend got her a S8 Pro Ultra for her birthday last week. I've been eating microwaved chicken nuggets for a week so I assume it's pretty decent.
Any info on the carpet cleaning? Half of my downstairs is carpet and would love to know which one on these is better at cleaning carpets. I've also read previously that the 7 doesn't raise its mop pad high enough and can leave carpets damp.
The review of reviews! Thank you. I think your mopping ‘method’ is outdated. You need bigger surfaces, and compare which one cleans better eg check dirty water for example.
it should be mentioned that the lidar systems has issues with floor to ceiling mirrors where it will think the reflection is another room. not sure if the s8 fixed that with its lasers.
S7 Max Ultra did not fix it. It was also confused by floor to ceiling windows, thinking it was just a giant room, which made for an untidy map. I'd created no-go zones there to prevent the thing from trying to clean those areas like a fly or a bird trying to get into a window.
You should add grout cleaning to your mopping tests, I’m thinking of getting a q revo because it might scrub into the grout better than my current s8 but I don’t want to spend the money on a guess
Which roborock for vacuum only (no mop)? I bought the Q Revo based on your videos for my top floor and it's phenomenal! Need a vacuum only for down stairs.
We are looking at that one, as well as few other new ones right now, so the initial reviews will be coming out one at a time starting next week. Thank you for asking.
I’m pretty much sure I’ll buy the S8 Ultra Pro, but now that you mentioned it, I’ll hold my breath until L20 review gets available: will there be a new sheriff in town? 😁
The Q Revo is listed as 3rd best overall on your website. On the list for hard floors, Ecovacs T10 Omni is 3rd. In overall Ecovacs T20 Omni was in second place. The Q Revo and Ecovacs T10 Omni are similarly priced. I have all hard floors. Would the ecovac t10 still be better than the q Revo and T20?
New to robotic vacuums, have all hard floors too but don't need the mop function. Is that feature unavoidable if I want a unit that is excellent in all other respects?
I have a unique question. I have 6 indoor tennis courts side by side and there is a lot of fuzz and dust buildup. It is a hard slightly rough surface. Do you think one of the robot vacuum cleaners work if I ran a couple of them throughout the night to clean the courts?
It looks like the S7 is rated for 3,200 square feet. However, it might be able to divide the job into 6 cleanings with trips back to the refill station. Try calling roborock or emailing them. It seems like the 21,000 square feet could be divided into 6 different rooms. Then a separate schedule could be made for each room. Or, maybe roborock already knows when to return to base and refill?
This video couldn’t have come at a better time as I am currently deciding between the q revo and the s7 to replace my s4, I do have a question , my basement has dark tile and carpet with black patterns and my s4 gets totally confused, would the newer models do this as well?
@@jamesdeluxa9782 yea, I heard it was a cliff sensor back when I first got it years ago but it’s been flawless otherwise I love it, I would buy another Roborock in a second, I’m just trying to figure out which one.
@@rustyfan89depends on whether you value more mopping or obstacle avoidance - want the best mopping from roborock? Revo. Want better obstacle avoidance? S7!
We are putting our finishing touches on our next Best Robot Vacuum competition video now and it should be ready for this Friday. We will talk about a lot of pros and cons there!
I just got the max ultra and we have three dogs. I feel the q revo might last me longer with less moving parts in the dock for hair to get into. It's on sale for 699 right now. You my s7 maxU for999
How is your Ultra holding up? I'm making the call between 7 Ultra & Q Revo now... only one dog but he's a furry fellow. The mop cleaning section of the ultra base does seem destined to accumulate fur... but then I fear the spinning mops of the Revo might do the same. Tricky!
@@bazh6041 holding up really well my floors have never been so clean haha. Just need to keep up with maintenance and cleaning. My house gets really messy with the dogs so I definitely put it to the test
@@bazh6041 the ultra is great for me. You need to take out filter where the water drains out to the dirty water bin. I'm pretty impressed with it's performance
@@BaezLife Cool, thanks for the update! I thought I had found a bargain on a 7 Ultra near me but the seller looks a bit dodgy so now I'm back to looking at the Revo... looks like both are solid options though.
Is there a natural cleaning agent that can be put into carpet cleaning machines, wet dry vacuum cleaners and robot vacuum cleaners and will not damage the machines? I don't want to use chemicals😊
Way too loud of a machine, doing anything really especially emptying the damn dust been.. shiit like damn jet taking off in the whole house. Then annoying pad washing BEFORE AND AFTER. TF you washing it before you been just sitting there after you washed it after the last job. 🤦🏻 Then come in the dam smell if you don't clean the docking station bord and a filter for a few days like sulfur rotten eggs. Always out the damn water too.. Gtf out of here ..
Almost totally unhelpful in my deciding which Robovac to buy, even though I use Robot Wars and Tom's guide to give me the best independent reviews. I suppose if all three are the same I will go with the Revo as I have been programmed myself to take everything off the floor before starting the process. I mean how lazy can I get and besides it forces me to actually put things where they belong. So maybe not TOTALLY unhelpful, just not committing this time around (though you have ranked Robovac S7 Max Ultra king of the mountain in the past).
can you connect it to wifi by roborock app ? mine cant, alway fail at step 3 when connect robot to wifi, i have to use "xiaomi home" app to connect it to wifi
One week into ownership, the Q Revo is truly amazing. Are there more expensive models that might be a little better? Probably, but the Q Revo can hold it's own at a fraction of the price. We bought direct from Roborock for 680-10% military discount, total cost $612. Much to our surprise it successfully avoided a folded blanket we forgot to pick up, so while it's obstacle avoidance might not match models costing twice the price, it's fine if you pick up cords and such. On the plus side, it does not touch, bump, or markup walls or furniture. We even have Christmas decorations out that it successfully avoids. None of our previous Roombas or Deebots could do that. Q Revo for the win for us.
I have the S7 MaxV and I love it. My main complaint with Roborock is the fact that it can't empty the bin during cleaning. I have heard it's somehow a patent issue between Roomba and Roborock, but I don't understand how. My mop also isn't wetting the entire pad anymore, but it isn't the end of the world. Great video as always.
@Wakkaking14 I hear you on this one! I found a very simple work around using the routines - I simply added multiple separate cleans, each with its own zones to my routine. When it finishes each zone, it does its full clean and empty. Then a few minutes later starts the next zone. Yes it takes longer to set up initially and overall takes a bit longer BUT it does the trick and now it's set up, its not a problem ^_^ x
Do not buy Roborock products!! It may work fantastically in the beginning, but both the dealer and roborock itself only give a two-year warranty and after that you are on your own. This is the experience I had.
Q Revo Wins less moving parts and a Base that's easier to clean as compared to the others. I have watched other videos that had dogs and cleaning the brush and drain is more complicated that the Q Revo
I think you have to test at min 3 samples of the same robot to get an accurate measurement of how well something picks up.. Too many tolerances.. from height range of wheel assembly to motor being slightly better or worse than next sample. Take the old S6 for example.. You rated it a bit worse, but this robot picks up better than the newer S8 for me. YMMV.
I returned the X2 Omni and bought the Roborock S7 Max Ultra. The X2 could not recognize carpet and would not let me reset the floor type in the app. When I tried to map it combined the living room and bedroom and would not let me decide. I sent to clean a specific area and spun in circles, tried to go through a wall and said "Could not find area, returning to station".
I have a dog and usually I walk around checking everywhere thst I don't have cables or w/e lying on the floor. This time I had checked but waited a bit too long to start the vaccum. My dog usually never poops on the floor but this time she did. The vaccum came to the living room where I was sitting and it smelled like poop. It had smeared poop luckily only in a small area. Cleaning the poop off the floor wasn't an issue, cleaning the robot was - as the poop got inside the wheels and the rotor thing and so on. So this time I don't want to rely on me just walking around (especially since sometimes I do start it when I'm not home) so I really want as good obstacle avoidance as I can get.
I wish roborock kept using the bag-less system they had on the s7 self emptying base. It is such a bad idea to be forced to buy those proprietary bags over and over...
I'm using s7 max ultra and i love mine a lot except for one point that it will roll in the cables and got stuck with it (there was couple of days it got stuck to the baby monitor cable and I had to pull it out). Beside that, there is no complaints from me so far. Oh, one more thing, the map will appear more areas every week which I have no idea where are those)
Fantastic video as always. The S7 Max genius link doesn’t work but the Revo and 8 link work. This applies to both the pinned youtube comment and the video description.
I would like to see a video of what the difference is between the s7 maxv ultra vs the s7 max ultra. Looks like the s7 Max has more suction power and a better dock design. But can the s7 Max vacuum in a dark room? I know the s7 maxv had a light that would turn on in a dark room so it could vacuum in a pitch dark room.
