I really enjoy these video's. I have sat and binge watched many of the full rebuild video's. They are great. All this knowledge is amazing! Keep'em coming!
Can you tell us more about replacing batteries with SLA type batteries? Specifically for older 6volt bikes, what would be a good drop in replacement for a Rally 180 US market bike! Thanks Robot!
Brings back memories. The 74 Rally 200 was my favorite too, and I've had many Vespas. I used to commute 80 miles per day, rain, shine, fog., from Skylonda to downtown San Francisco. Took many long tours, some 2 up. Rode it to Alaska in 1978 when the AlCan was gravel.
I have the sort of maroon color all original 74. I had to put an external condenser kit from you guys on it. We couldnt find the old stator internal mount condenser.I have a few Femsa's in my keepsake box as well, and a few rectifiers. I've never seen a vintage Vespa here in Western Mass. in Ten years. I wish there were vintage Vespa mechanics around here to bounce questions off of.
I have a 79 P200, but Im in Central Mass. Its kinda new to me, as Ive only had it since 2020. I also wish there were vintage vespa mechanics around here...let me know if you find any! My names Andy. My 200 runs great, and everything works, but Im worried that the electrical might have problems, as it seems in rough shape. It came from Maryland originally, by way of Rhode Island.
Super video, enjoy hearing your passion for the vespa and much respect for leaving in unmolested. So many people especially in the states always want to customize and restore everything, and that has its place as well but it's fun and all proper to have the original ( or as close as possible). Carry on Brother!
Robot...I am restoring this exact bike right now, even color and year...I need a lot of advice so any that anyone wants to share I'm all ears!!! thanx a ton and you can see the restoration on modern vespa cheers mates...
That's awesome, good luck! Search through our channel, we have a number of videos on vintage vespas that may be of help. Don't forget to check out scooterwest.com for all you parts needs.
Great video - have always been a scared of the electricals on my old cars and avoided them at pretty much all costs. Now motivated to get in and at least understand how they work. All of the videos on this channel are great. Nice one Robot!
Robot, I love you dude. Worked as a Brunswick pinsetter mech a lot of years and temperament so similar. Let me know if you'll ship it or one like it to Hong Kong. I've got to have one. Best TV on the Web, other than English caption foreign movies I watch with my wife.
The US had Autolube in '74! Cool! Great Scoot, the rear light and winkers is bizarre, but I'm used to UK models. Also an original solid floor pan! Never get that here in GB!
Don't think the indicators are that bad looking at the rear anyway.. as you said 70s American original whatever. Do you have any opinion on the motovespa 200 TX ?
I never had a Rally 200 myself though my friend had a 1975 & it was white with the black speed blocks & lovely. I had an early P200 in original white non oil injected 1979 model at this time which I bought from an old Vespa dealer in my town in Scotland. The P200e was almost ten years old at this time and was mint like new & low miles & ran like a Swiss watch & was pretty quick in standard form. If I recall my mates Rally 200 was quicker & felt much smoother with lovely acceleration & people used to say it sounded more like a motorbike. I used to get a loan of the Rally 200 often & I loved riding that scooter round Glasgow & Paisley where I lived. I used to surprise most cars with the turn of speed on urban roads & the smooth turbine like acceleration all that with the beautiful looks made each ride on the Rally 200 a great occasion as well as it being so enjoyable to ride in itself .
Metal vs. plastic. Thats a no brainer. I could get my hands on -89 Vespa PK 50 XL. Would it be worth it? I mean how is the tuneability on those engines? How high can you go in displacement? Im a big guy and live on a hilly area so need the umpfh :) Around 10hp would be nice. Achievable with reliable kit eh?
Can you upload a video on how to install the rectifier and battery on rally 180 svd1t. Which regulator to put and which battery to install i want to make it 12 volts system for brighter lights as for nowadays, technology is evolving so vintage should deserve a little bit mods.
"Funky electrical system" try a real vintage vespa MOPED not a scooter. Look it up vespa grande, vespa ciao, vespa bravo. They're the true vintage vespas.
Any of piaggio mopeds don't go under the vespa category. The names are Piaggio ciao, bravo, grillo, boss, superbravo, si... For some reason some importers chose to sell them under Vespa brand but the ones that were sold in italy have the regular Piaggio on them.
hello Robot love to watch your job. actually i am from India I have a 150 super scooter and there is a problem with blowback. accelarate. it bog down on high accelerator. I felt very bad you know. can you help and guide me with some technique.
