Robotic deburring: www.fanucameri...
FANUC America’s new M-20iB/35S industrial robot, the latest in FANUC’s M-20iB Series, is designed to handle parts in a variety of applications including this demonstration of a fully automated cast deburring process. This robotic demonstration was designed to show how FANUC’s unique intelligence features can make deburring processes fast and efficient, while ensuring the utmost part quality and easy adaptation to casting variations.
The system starts as the FANUC M-20iB/35S robot uses FANUC iRVision to locate a casting on a pallet and places it into a clamp for deburring. The robot then uses Image-to-Path software to develop a deburring path, adapted from the ideal CAD model. Once the path is created, a robot-mounted FANUC FS-40iA force sensor is used to maintain a consistent force against the part as the robot moves the cutting tool along the path. After deburring and placing the casting back on the pallet, the robot uses the force sensor and a gauge to check deburring tool wear. When a worn tool is detected, the robot automatically exchanges the worn tool for a new one without operator assistance.
The cell highlights the new robot’s compact size and payload capabilities, its ability to handle two different work pieces, and its automatic tool wear check and replacement for lights-out manufacturing. All of this in addition to Image-to-Path software, which automatically generates edge deburring programs using ROBOGUIDE and iRVision. Designed as a deburring support tool, this Force Control Deburring Package from FANUC allows manufacturers to easily adapt to casting variations in machined parts.
