Located in Boston, Spyce is a fast-casual restaurant created by four MIT graduates. It promises to deliver salads and grain bowls in three minutes or less, after you order from a kiosk. The only human employee in the kitchen provides fresh toppings and garnish to your meal. Each salad-and-grain bowl costs $7.50.

Why do some people insist on calling every machine a robot? Can it sense its surroundings? Does it have some sort of intelligence? Can it make decisions? Can it be reprogrammed to do other tasks? If not, then it's not a robot. If we keep calling everything a robot then my printer will end up being "a robot that can write with perfect calligraphy" or even my dishwasher will be called a robot.

I thought the robots would be doing the easy stuff and the humans would be doing the difficult stuff, but the robot does all the cooking and the human just puts stuff on top. How hard is it to "put stuff on top"? Any kind of automated dispenser can do that. They have so much more scope to automate more of the restaurants functions.

A modified automated tractor prepares the fields and plants the ingredients. And automated combine harvests the crops. An automated factory washes, processes, and packages the ingredients. An automated forklift loads them onto a self driving truck to be delivered. An automated mini forklift sorts the ingredients into storage areas of the restaurant. Robots prep, cook and serve the orders...to an empty room - because no one has money to buy food when there are no more jobs.

They say in the description that *every* meal is $7.50...they aren't. Meals *start* at $7.50. When I went, which was a while ago I admit, I know they had certain dishes that were around $15. Which is fine, and the food I got was good, but if I'm spending that kind of money for a plate, I want a bit more quality control on my product than a machine dumping everything into a dryer and spinning it for a few minutes... I could see this being beneficial in the fast food industry. The low cost of the product combined with the high turnover rate amongst employees seems to be begging for the automation of certain tasks. Idk if this will ever catch on in terms of "fine dining" tho...
