Multi-line palletizing robots: robot.fanucamerica.com/Product...
FANUC America Authorized System Integrator Sen-Pack developed this case palletizing system, using three FANUC palletizing robots to service nine production lines. Each FANUC M-410iC/185 palletizing robot and its associated conveyors comprise mini-cells, operating independently within the larger overall cell. Each robot has a tool attached that utilizes the latest in vacuum and servo-pneumatic technology picking one, two, or three cases at a time. The infeed conveyors determine how many cases to meter into the pick area. Once in the pick area, a compression bar moves the cases over to justify them against a fixed guide rail where they are measured. If the cases are within acceptable limits they are placed next in the que with coordinates for the robot pick location.
As the FANUC M-410iC/185 robot moves to this position, its end-of-arm tool articulates into place. The robot places cases on the pallet load in one, two, or three place movements. If any cases are dropped during transfer, that infeed is disabled, the remaining cases are placed on top of the load, and automatic palletizing of the other two conveyor sections resumes. A similar process occurs to pick and place slip sheets.
Completed loads are taken away and pallets replenished by a transfer car system. Like a symphony, each piece plays its part in concert with the others. Separating the mini-cells from each other was crucial in maximizing uptime for the system, and a tough obstacle to overcome. The completed system encompasses safety fencing that wraps the entire perimeter of the machine as well as fencing and light curtains that separate the mini-cells. However, fencing and light curtains alone would not have satisfied the level of safety required to allow an operator to access a mini-cell of an adjacent operating mini-cell. Therefore a key component in the safety aspect of this custom product offering is FANUC’s Dual-Check Safety feature. FANUC DCS allows each robot to operate at full speed so long as it remains within its programmed limits.
Minimizing the system’s footprint was also critical during system development. Sen-Pack's ingenuity yielded the needed operator access and efficiency without wasting precious floor space. The slip sheet trolley delivery system was conceptualized to keep it out of the way of operator travel aisles. Conventional pallet delivery and take away systems wouldn't allow access, so a transfer car system is utilized. From its rugged conveyor framework to its stout robot base construction, from its transfer cars to its durable end-of-arm tooling; this system is built to last. Through superior robotic safety, technology, and reliability married to robust and proven automation, Sen-Pack’s robotic palletizing systems are truly one of a kind.
