It's in an area seldom visited. Sadly however, places like Zion National Park, which never saw graffiti before, are now experiencing bouts due to increased tourism of "different types of people" during COVID. Let's hope they don't venture any further north.

@@SPGRAMPA1 The people who created this panel were a combination of Fremont, Archaic, and Ute people. All indigenous to the western USA.

I live close to the Rochester panel and visit often, I've also explored the immediate area extensively and I've never seen the glyph that you mentioned that's across the canyon. Are you sure that is located at the Rochester Panel?

@@ryanmoreau4928 Check with wide angle binoculars. You will also probably see a later petroglyph with a mounted man on a horse. I also did not see the "grid" until around my third visit; Which I attributed to carelessness, but it is possible it is not easy to see unless the light is at just the right angle. The circles are reddish in color, just like the regular petroglyphs. Also these circles are higher on the canyon wall; they must have hung from ropes to make them. You may be looking too low, where you would normally expect them to be.

@@bigfoot99 that later 'petroglyph' is what people here around the swell call 'cowboy rock art', it's probably 70 years old or so, there is cowboy rock art literally everywhere around the Rochester Panel. I will be visiting this weekend, I will look for that panel, seeing how its 'at least a 100 feet long and 40 feet high' it shouldn't be hard to miss. If that is that case it will by far be the largest panel in the state. I'm skeptical though, I've been there literally hundreds of times and never seen it.

According to the nearby museum in Castle Dale, their displays indicate that it was several artists over a period of time and told different stories. Unfortunately, just like with most rock art, nobody really knows.

It’s much easier to access

Yup, it's now in Bears Ears National Monument and on the highway to the Needles District of Canyonlands. But nothing beats the Rochester Panel!

Thank for commenting. Keep in mind that I'm no expert and I'm just "video-izing" what was presented to us by a few people and 2 area museums. Bottom line, nobody really knows. The people that drew the panel are long gone and it was certainly done by many different people over different periods of time. Even the Native Americans of today debate about the various tales handed down thru the generations.

One can only guess. There is a painting in the museum at Castle Dale that depicts the Fremont people creating it, but it's an educated guess.

I do not. I would consult the knowledgeable folks at the museum in Castle Dale, Utah, which is where I learned much of the information in the video.

We have seen rock art from Aboriginals. Yes, they are very similar! But I'll bet the same is true with those cave drawings in France. People are frequently drawing animals they see.

Too bad people like you want instant gratification. If you watch many of our other videos, we explain what you're seeing first before showing it first. To me and our viewers, that's what's important, not just getting to the "show me how to get there and I don't care about anything else". You sound like you're a pretty shallow thinker. Pathetic.

If they knew, then the experts, many that are Native Americans, would know too. Whoever you talk to out there or reading in a book regarding petroglyphs, their meaning is basically a guess.

Don't let the Mormons scare you. I'm not Morman, I live in Utah, they don't bother anyone. In fact, they are responsible for keeping a pristine environment here as opposed to other sites, such as in California that have been obliterated by vandals.

@@BackRoadsWest1 I mean some nations/tribes had seen the world as a semi-cupola, that is the earth flat, but having a sky-dome ...and probably that depiction is this, not of a rainbow. Everything under the dome is the world, so to say.

Yea, in my opinion, the "sticking up the pole" test could just be a coincidence, but it could be what the Natives were doing. It relates to what the Anasazi (or the people related to Chaco Canyon) were doing out at Chimney Rock National Monument, which was measuring the moon's position between two buttes.

Thanks for commenting. In my experience in the 4 corners area, Anasazi is still used very much. Before Anasazi was a "bad word", it meant, "the ancient one" or the "one that came before". But the Navajo refer to the term as "the enemy that came before". If you talk to the Hopi or Zuni, they will tell you that they were that enemy. Remember, they were there first. The Navajo came afterwards as immigrants from Canada. But they were much better negotiators with the US Gov't (i.e. Navajo Code Talkers) than the Hopi. So they get listened to more. I'm simply repeating what I learned at the Hopi Cultural Center on Second Mesa, a very worthwhile place to visit.

This had nothing to do with the Navajo. Many people don't realize that the Navajo are from Canada and invaded the Hopi land around 1500, just before the Spanish arrived on the scene. The Fremont were before 1500.
