Clayton, no kidding that was a great video. I love how you plug the local shops, restaurants, no matter where you are. And don't you just hate it when you're out pan-fishing and those pesky walleye keep bothering you...lol.
Man, I have been out 10-15 times this summer trying to catch a rock bass and NOTHING. I love the walleye/pike/trout stuff, but it is cool to see something different from the channel, too!
Look for cover from the light whether that be structure or just deeper water (15ft ish depends though obviously). And yes, night time the bite turns on, a nuisance for catfishing thouh for sure.
A couple of lakes in my area S.E Wisconsin are loaded with Rock bass. A huge pain in my a$$ never thought I would watch a video of rock bass fishing . Clayton made rock bass great again
Rock bass are a hidden gem. I catch alot in minnesota and some small rivers here in Iowa. They are very good fighters and are good eating. They have their own distinct taste.
Only thing in the outdoors that's excited me more than a trophy fish is multispecies I've never clicked on a CSO video so fast. I like the big walleye, lake trout and pike vids but this is fresh! Cheers!
Rockies have died off for some reason in my area of PA back in the 90's,but when I was a kid in the 80's I'd bring home multiple stringers of 10-12"+.They're the best eating fish in the water. A certain spinner fly in a couple colors either size 8 or 10 will smoke all other baits on them. I catch a few each year here now while catching Catfish bait but they all get released to hopefully help them to make a comeback.
Great video as always. Love to see the change up to an overlooked species. Not knowing too much about them this makes me feel a lot more confident about what I’ve been doing. I’m on the right track lol
Great action 🐟🐟 I was up there in July but didn’t try for Rock bass 🐟 will give it a go next trip! Kudos to the “Buckets“ store as well….. fast, friendly service and great food!!
Poor man's crappie is pretty accurate I catch em as bycatch CONSTANTLY when targeting crappie but I call em Canadian tilapia, look just like em. Tight lines clay, looked like a great day.
Hey Clayton awesome vid glad you’re doing well! I’ve been going through a rough patch right now but coming home and watching you is a great way to take my mind off of things. Thanks for being a great guy and awesome fishing teacher! Hope all stays well! Also can’t wait for the next live stream.
I find that first and last light top water action for rockies is great.... Big popper fly with a stick bobber so you can pitch it farther... Or a small jitterbug or hula popper.... Killer
So many fish out there get over looked and rock bass deff get filled in that cabinet. I don't care what kind of fish it is every time the lines tight its like falling in love again for the first time.
I've only fished/caught walleye, burbot, pike, whitefish, perch and sturgeon... would love to catch a bass that'll definitely be on my bucket list! love the vids Clayton!! also I've never encountered a boat launch that requires a fee... northern sask. Ive only gone to about 10 lakes so maybe that's why lol
Hey Clayton, in my neck of the woods in Wisconsin the guy in the boat that catches an RB has to buy a round at the bar. The way I see it, you'd be going broke and I'd be getting shitfaced!! 🤣🍺🍻
Nice video Man! They are a very accommodating Fish. We catch a lot of them in Creeks & Rivers here in Indiana, typically in that 6-10" range. They tend to fight hard at 1st, & then kinda go limp 1/2 way through. A Fish is a Fish though!
Shoutout to Jason Bilous! Kind of weird seeing my favourite teacher from back in high school getting a shoutout on my favourite RU-vid channel. Clayton you should get JB on a video if you want to add some comedy to the channel that man is a riot
Here in Michigan our Master Angler is 11.5"... Caught a 12 last year but we've got some lakes in Northern MI that have giants. Most notably, Crystal Lake in Benzie County, MI. Taste good out of that clean water too.
Hey Clayton awesome video, what are the chances of you doing a video targeting perch in LOTP ? I’d love to see that as I’m sure a lot of your would as well.
Would you be interested in making a summer crappie video? I just bought my first boat a couple months ago and haven’t had any luck finding them. Any tips would be appreciated
Very very sweet, shoot I should have checked what master angler was on them. fished for them on opposite side pillar last year and hammered them must have caught 4 or 5 over 10” oh well there Super fun on a very light rod
Literally the easiest species to catch in our main lakes. It may take you 10min, 1hour, 10 hours, etc. To locate big schools. Hands down to this day the best fishing session I've ever had was 5:20am in algonquin park from shore literally less than 3min! I had all intentions of targetting 1 or 2 mega bites throwing 5"-8" chug'n spooks. Within the first 30mins I landed a big smallie and dropped another roughly the same size. It didnt take long for me to see the smallies were no longer on beach flats so I tied on a 1/2oz strike king Red Eye Shad in Delta Red. I absolutely bombed the crankbait off of the beach and slow rolled it until I found them. For roughly 90minutes to 120minutes it was Literally every single cast and they would bite in the exact same spot 90% of the time. After I wokeup all the campers with me talking to myself saying shit like "YOU FOUND EM, THERE'S ANOTHER ONE, WOOOHOOO". A Family had come down to the waters edge (father, mother, 2 sons and the eldest daughter), the father was very respectful of my space and wanted to know if I could share a spot or two to start with The two little boys were 100% dialed into my rod tip and anyone could see they wanted to try it out so bad but they were respectful. I explained to them that the school was quite a ways out so I casted for 1 brother and showed him how to retrieve the crankbait and *BOOM he gets rocked & lands his personal best Rockies. Anyway I did the same with the older son and though it took a few casts he also landed a few. My fav part was when the dad/all 3 kids began hinting that they'd appreciate me catching a few of them for their fish fry. I sat all 4 of them down and explained how long it takes for a smallmouth to hit 20" or more as well as the odds against them. I said legally I cant catch the fish for you two sons but I'll cast for for you and let you reel it in/trigger a bite which I did. Later that night the father said thanks again and showed me how they were cooking them. I tried a peice and I must admit it was tasty
Is that the same algae that's grows in lake Erie and is toxic to touch? Was out today on Michigan side perch fishing and it is starting to spread fast from Ohio waters
Hell ya that was sick I'd like to see you go for perch Crappie blue Gill or any other pan fish I know you would kill it what ever you target #1 fishing you tuber in my books
Am i the only one excited about a rocky video ? Lately thats about all i can catch without a boat. I fish for em at night along break walls on the upper Niagara. We get legit 12 inchers.
